Domnall was equally mean on the sofa though. TBH, neither of them were finalists in my book so the order they go home in doesn't matter a whole lot.

Do you think so? Domnall was mostly trying to point out that the stupid chairs and benches were not his choice - which they were not. He had tried to rescue the chairs (badly). He also didn't mention Francesca's overruling him on wall colour. Her comments were a tirade of "Domnall didn't tell me anything" with added tears and she got away with it whilst Domnall was told off for mentioning Francesca's cock up. Maybe Domnall had a similar tirade and it was edited out but it wasn't a good look on TV for Francesca.

I agree that both should go, I'm just astonished that Francesca is still in the process considering the state of her rooms. She only came near to the brief once so far and that was "better" rather than good. Domnall has done some decent designs but the over reliance on graphics was always likely to see him go soon.

Cocolapew · 03/04/2024 10:30

I work in a school and the chairs are really uncomfortable no matter what height they are.

SoupDragon · 03/04/2024 10:30

i thought it was very much a full on Apprentice style fight between the two of them as they tried to throw each other under the bus. I've really no idea who was ultimately responsible for the chair fiasco. I thought Francesca at the start but I'm not so sure now. It definitely seemed that Domnall hadn't told Francesca about stuff. The chairs as shelves looked shit.

I think they both would have gone home but it might have messed up the format for coming weeks (eg this week they needed an even number and they have to end up with 2 in the end so they can't send too many people home at once 😂)

Morred · 03/04/2024 12:47

I’m not sure he should make the final, but Ben is great TV and I was impressed that he’d actually listened to feedback and could work with a partner and a client this week.

He and Banjo would have a great spinoff series together designing increasingly bonkers theatrical spaces.

LadyEloise1 · 03/04/2024 13:01

Banjo, Ben and Bonkers Spaces - a great idea. @Morred

JemimaTab · 03/04/2024 13:35

I like Ben too. I’ve been enjoying his Instagram. And I thought he worked well with Anthony.
I did find Francesca intensely annoying - that “I do think you’re talented” bit at the end was a bit pass-agg.

Feverblack · 03/04/2024 13:44

Many of the other designers & some of the decorators have commented on Francesca’s post on insta, can’t see any have on domnhall’s, so might not have been quite how it’s come across to some of you? He may have been tricky to work with. I didn’t like the room especially and the seating situation was obv not workable but I don’t think some of the vitriol on social media is warranted, it’s not a personality contest. And it’s entertainment! Also found it weird how he included so much of his own artwork each week (which was not my personal taste), but hopefully he will get business out of doing that going forward. I also think, as all the contestants do mention, it must be so hard with only a week to plan, find and order - and tiny budgets to do anything good at all? Cafe owners all v brave!

MoltenLasagne · 03/04/2024 15:09

Just catching up on the series and the thread - can't believe I had missed it was on! Quite nice to binge watch it all though, it definitely adds to my surprise that Francesca is still there.

A little bit sad to see the previous post from Ben. I was a reserve candidate for Sewing Bee yonks ago and I realised when asked to audition the following year that I couldn't handle being on the show just for the SM comments. It must take a will of steel not to go reading what everyone is saying, and it sounds like he's had some horrible abuse (not on MN) which is so unfair, no matter how outlandish his outfits.

Oh wow that would be fabulous ❤️

WingingItSince1973 · 03/04/2024 19:09

@MoltenLasagne I do feel for Ben reading all that personal criticism. That's way beyond just opinions on designs. No wonder he was so upset. I'm really enjoying watching him. So sad this week has been tainted by that ending. I don't know how I feel as I'm sure we are only getting a very very small portion of that sofa interview. I have really liked Domnalls designs in a few. I must admit I'm more a maximalist in my decor and do really like Francesca's own home but not really any of her designs on the show. I hope she gets to bloom. Hope Domnall is ok too. Ben if you're still reading this I apologise for my comments last week and do actually think you are great. Sorry you're having to deal with awful trolls elsewhere x

littleducks · 03/04/2024 19:25

I really liked Y Shed design, the others weren't good. I did wonder how they'd get the horrid dark green paint off exterior stonework in Graze place.

Hahaha love it! Loved him and Anthony together thought they were great and their space was the best

I can understand if Domhnall had proof on his phone re the chairs why he'd want to show it to Michelle.
It's frustrating to not be allowed to explain something clearly.
Personally I think I would find it hard working with Francesca.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2024 08:55

There is an interview with him here: https://uk.style.yahoo.com/interior-design-masters-exit-interview-200000967.html

What about the chairs that ended up too low? I had originally wanted to use these other type of chairs but we went with school chairs and I came up with the solution of having the extenders. I wish I had said no. If we’d gone for the classic tulip chairs we wouldn’t have had to pay money for the extenders.

I suspect the truth is that they were both at fault for most of the fuck ups.

Interior Design Masters exit interview with Domnall Starkie

Fifth to be eliminated, Domnall Starkie from Derry, Northern Ireland, admits he’s a man with his own vision and says Arnold Schwarzenegger gives him inspiration.

@IdrisElbow you know the rules - you need to at least look in the window ASAP to let us know

Oh, come on... she has to go in and take a full panoramic swoop of a video! And interview the owner.

Squiz81 · 04/04/2024 18:40

I reckon there was disagreements between them before the sofa as I don’t recall Michelle starting off proceedings with a little lecture about pointing fingers before

Clutterbugsmum · 04/04/2024 23:03

I think Francesca should have gone home this week, because once again she proved she can not work as part of a team just as she did with Zoo week. She just doesn't want to compromise with anything.

Not to mention the same pastels colours and child design for everything.

Like last season with Monika it almost like they have a clear person who they are pushing as the winner.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 05/04/2024 18:49

So cork. MIL's otherwise pleasant house has a double length sitting room. Both chimney breasts are clad in cork. Varnished.

(and I have a cork handbag 😳)

I've been off sick today so have been binge-watching "Designing the Hebrides" on iPlayer which stars Banjo. Proper comfort TV.

Agree. And Kelly Hoppen barely spoke during the elimination. Both Domal
abd Francesca seem hard work but out of the two, Francesca’s kitch styling is really not to my taste.

As for the woman who did the trans friendly colours in the last task, I can’t fathom how someone who uses peach and pastel block paint colours even got on the show.

JamMakingWannaBe · 05/04/2024 22:55

Just caught up tonight. What was the shit about Dom sourcing six chairs - that he didn't intend to use for the whole space (?) - and Fran sourcing additional chairs to match? He also put up chair shelves and artwork without consultation. The show was cleverly edited to show Ros and Matt collaborating when hanging artwork (even if it was "yup, looks fine"). He needed to go this week.
