Anxiety spreads through that department like norovirus.

Before we know it, they’ll all be hyperventilating and cowering in different parts of the hospital, and there’ll be nobody left to treat the patients.

Or maybe there’ll be one unlikely porter running resus…

Oh god

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 14/04/2024 01:22

I have such a love/hate relationship with Casualty and have slunk back into watching it for the last 2-3 series. I'm not great with the names of everyone, but I didn't watch it for weeks when the kidney doctor spontaneously snogged the RTA nurse in his office, just when she and Dylan were getting friendly. I just hated the seediness of it.

Now Teddy's been sexually assaulted but does he tell anyone about it? Of course he fucking doesn't. He blanks everyone, goes extreme jogging, offends everyone, and then finishes getting beaten to a pulp at an illegal fight club. What a bloody prick. The latest in a long line of Casualty employees who'd rather implode instead of talking to anyone, EVER, until it's far too late.

Thanks for the Patrick theories though everyone - I seriously hate him. I hope there is some comeuppance on the horizon.

So how do you think a victim of sexual assault should deal with it?!

UsernameChangerRanger · 14/04/2024 02:21

I think how Teddy is acting is pretty accurate.

I hope Patrick gets a redemption arc, I like the actor.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 14/04/2024 02:35

I think they should tell someone rather than internalise things. Wouldn't you speak out if you were that troubled by an event? Maybe I'm naive.

EBearhug · 14/04/2024 08:42

I think part of the problem is Teddy is a man - people will ask why he didn't just push them off, he should be stronger (he's already had everyone telling him he's pathetic.) They'll tell him he enjoyed it really (as did the hen woman,) no one will believe him. The hen has spread implied they'd make counter claims, false if needed. They'd believe a woman, not a man. He's probably asking himself why he didn't react differently, try harder not to push them off (and risk being accused of assault,) and everyone tells him he's pathetic is hitting home because it's how he's feeling anyway - it's a difficult job, there are difficult patients, it's not entirely unexpected such things could happen, he should have learnt how to get over these things by now...

purpleme12 · 14/04/2024 08:53

Yes

NameChangeAgain0224 · 14/04/2024 08:53

I felt so sorry for Teddy last night.

I really thought that when he charged after that woman he was going to be firm and assertive and tell her that he was going to the police……I certainly wasn’t expecting it to turn out like it did.

For those who have watched the trailer we do have an inkling of how it will progress, but yes, last night was tough to watch.

I found it so harrowing when it kept playing snippets of what the women had been saying to him in the back of the ambulance, especially when he was obviously being held down. Just horrible 😢

AnImaginaryCat · 14/04/2024 09:03

I haven't been much of a fan of Teddy, but I thought the actor is playing out the sexual assault line well. (The fight stuff less so.)

On a complete tangent, did anyone else notice that lots of the long-term extras got name checked in the episode. More than they usually do. (Don't know know why but I do love it when a long-term extra get a bit of notice. I'd quite like them to become main characters!)

purpleme12 · 14/04/2024 09:07

Yes I did

And definitely Wayne is a more obvious extra than he used to be

Zyq · 14/04/2024 09:22

I'm hoping that, sitting at home, Dylan has time to go through all the webcam footage and returns to get Patrick arrested and be triumphantly reinstated.

Yes - this is a great idea, @Zyq . Someone's bodycam must have caught Patrick in the background dispensing penicillin to that patient, and who better to do a thorough job of observing the footage than Dylan?

longtompot · 14/04/2024 11:40

I wondered if Teddy's body cam was recording what happened to him and will come to light with this mass emailing of the footage?

Wonkypictureframe · 14/04/2024 11:53

Are the paramedics part of the initiative though? They work for the ambulance service.

longtompot · 14/04/2024 12:01

I don't know, but I am sure they wear the cameras. Maybe it'll be a bit of artistic license that it is included

NameChangeAgain0224 · 14/04/2024 12:31

I don’t think the paramedics do wear the cameras otherwise there’d be no issue with Teddy proving what happened in the ambulance.

I’m pretty sure it was mentioned a few episodes back that the paramedics weren’t wearing the cameras and a senior member of staff said it wasn’t fair as who/what was keeping them safe.

OneMoreTime23 · 14/04/2024 12:33

Most ambulance crew/paramedics don’t wear cameras. (Yet.). In real life anyway.

longtompot · 14/04/2024 15:17

It was supposedly rolled out in 2021 but I guess lack of funding has probably stopped it. I was sure on the Ambulance series they had them but I could be wrong

Yes, Wayne and Sui get appearances every episode now and more often than not mentioned by name.

FourLeggedBuckers · 14/04/2024 18:15

I thought they were wearing (different, more robust looking) cameras in recent scenes. But I don’t think they’re recording all the time and have to be switched on if an issue arises so Teddy may not have had his recording when it all happened.

Wonkypictureframe · 14/04/2024 18:31

But also, even if they had them, they wouldn’t be in the footage that the ED had as they work for a different organisation: the ambulance service would own it.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 14/04/2024 20:00

I'm sure I remember Jan wearing a camera on a recent call-out. I agree though, they may not always be running, and surely Teddy would have realised he had it as evidence if his had been?

Fair enough the comments about him not speaking out because of being a man. I think I'm generally jaded about so many plot lines in soaps being amplified simply because people chose to not talk or be transparent about things.

Oooh this is a good call @Zyq! There's got to be a reason for the storyline of her sending him the footage

Wonkypictureframe · 18/04/2024 20:07

I’ve been watching Classic Casualty from the start and it is rather like seeing pictures of an elderly cat when they’re a kitten. Young(er) Charlie is such a good character.
