what was Dilly’s formula for mugs etc ?
so if living alone = 3teaspoons , 3 mugs, plates ?

Yep.

personally I stock according to the largest family gathering I’m likely to host. A single person might still have a dinner for 6/8, no?

doodles55 · 11/02/2025 21:36

Thanks for that reply, Puttfta
I can relax now, knowing that I don’t have to do a mug ++ cull !!

suburburban · 11/02/2025 21:46

Yes the beds were very narrow in boys' room

Ihavetoomuchtodo · 11/02/2025 22:13

Oh what a lovely family!

LenaLamont · 12/02/2025 02:30

I love how not-cluttered my clutter looks when I compare it to the house in the show.

I think next time I am supposed to have a sort out I’ll be all ”At least I haven’t got 118 spoons!”

Great dog. I felt as bit sorry for the daughter, everything was through the filter of being a big sister to triplet brothers with additional needs. She didn’t seem to get much time to be her.

This is what DD took to uni! 3 of each. Dilly would be proud.

FortuneFaded · 12/02/2025 03:06

I need to be on the show, or have a couple of good, non judgey mates who will come and help me declutter all my crap. The show is good for inspiration, but I do get overwhelmed: Would love to put all my stuff in a warehouse and sort it.

Fast800 · 12/02/2025 08:01

I really liked the family. I felt there was less focus on the actual decluttering this time. As always I was annoyed with the continuity in the warehouse.

I remember there was another family they had to tread really lightly with and not a huge amount of decluttering was done. I think they do a good job of really pushing the ones who need it and being more gentle with the ones who wouldn't cope with too much.

I presume by putting no at the end of your statement you're inviting us to disagree!

Happy to debate 😉

LaPalmaLlama · 12/02/2025 09:41

Yeah- I would say you have to cater for the largest gathering you have but at then same time I refuse to have things in my house which would be convenient for, say, Christmas, if that makes it inconvenient for me the rest of the time. So, for example, I ideally need a 12 seater dining table for Christmas week but it would be too big the rest of the time so I have an 8 seater and use MIL's fold up on the end for the few days I need it.

If I lived alone I'd probably have an 8 place dining set and cutlery. I wouldn't cut it down as far as 3 mugs. That seems excessive for anyone unless you literally never have anyone over. Uni would be different as everyone sharing the kitchen would have their own.

LenaLamont · 12/02/2025 10:05

Oh my goodness, I’ve just realised I actually DO have that much cutlery!!! Hubris!

I am one of three who sort out a community party every summer. We swapped from disposable to reusable plates and cutlery in 2018, and they are one of my tasks.

I have a party crate in the shed with 80 each of spoons and forks, 40 knives. Also 50 cheap thin plastic plates and 80 plastic tumblers.

In fairness to Dilly I don’t think she meant it for individuals.

In a family of 3, 9 of everything is lots; in a family of 6, 18 is loads.

Enjoyed the first episode!

Very sad that they endured several losses Sad

I think this family got rid of a fair amount but actually maybe they didn’t which is why they didn’t focus on the piles.

Meredusoleil · 11/02/2025 20:50

How is that top bunk a full length single bed with a cupboard at the end of it? No growing 12 year old boy will be able to lie flay on that!

I thought that too. And won't the landlord have something to say?

Did anyone else think it was a bit inappropriate of Stacey to be asking a 14 year old if she had a boyfriend? Just me?

I think it was probably to do with a previous conversation they’d had, I thought it was ok. She did get a bit overlooked.

wildfellhall · 13/02/2025 10:34

This is programme is brilliant.
I was just thinking I hope the Landlord doesn't doubles the rent now it's so improved!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/02/2025 16:12

It looked like it was a council house, so maybe they're there long term?

Lovely family and they did a great job.

Poor Dilly is looking very fragile, she's been very ill 😢

Ulysees · 13/02/2025 16:17

They would have said ring the council to check though not landlord surely?

OP posts:
wildfellhall · 13/02/2025 16:40

Dilly goes to check with the landlord before they bust up that doorway.

I LOVE DILLY.

Stacey's teeth though.... just oh god pass my shades but I do love her

Ulysees · 13/02/2025 17:01

@wildfellhall dh said Stacey looks like she's been to Turkey. I think they're her own aren't they?
