Looks like the producers have rounded up some ‘interesting’ contestants….😂

TonIght’s opening episode features renovation of accommodation in a Norfolk convent. From today’s Times :- “ one of the contestants first appears in an outfit that Carr playfully suggests makes her look as though she has arrived from zippos Circus and the Victorian enthusiast Ben is not an unflamboyant presence”

Called it before I’d even seen her room. Shit beige handmade curtains… always the killer 😂

I would rather stay in Sheree’s room than either Hannah or Francesca’s.

Jellykat · 12/03/2024 20:59

Oh well, we get to see clowncesca do another kids room next week!

Netaporter · 12/03/2024 20:59

Onwards to Stacey Solomon and the marvellous Dilly 😉

How can someone dress up like that and then say they didn't have courage of their convictions?

Blobby curtains was a big enough mistake to go. Can't see the two that stayed staying long.

Netaporter · 12/03/2024 21:00

Clowncesca 😂😂😂

So do I. I don't think she had anything that worked, whereas Sheree's was just a bit flat.

And she didn't finish or understand what "signature style" meant. Plus I thought she was a designer already

MichaelAndEagle · 12/03/2024 21:00

Yay Sophie Robinson makes an appearance next week!

viques · 12/03/2024 21:02

Week one gone. We have a week to bleach our eyeballs ready for next week. Thanks for your company all.

Netaporter · 12/03/2024 21:02

See you all next week! Yay for Sophie!

Not much left on the bingo card for next week!

GrouchyKiwi · 12/03/2024 21:28

Yes, that was quite a full episode!

Updownleftandright · 12/03/2024 21:47

I only really saw the end. Sheree was really lovely, but I think her room was lost in a lot of other colourful rooms. I think it's a fairly strong start though. I didn't like a lot of the rooms, but they did work I their own way. I liked Matt and commode man the best.

There was a lot of orange and yellow - is that a new thing? My own home is very boring and functional.

Some of the outfits were interesting and seemed to span different eras. For a minute I thought I had tuned into a new episode of Ghosts with a new cast.

I think Ben has great ideas and aesthetic but his effort this week was far too dull brown for me.
Agree that the youngest man, Matt? Is a contender.
Nice to see Abigail Aherne, I love her stuff.

More like Rentaghost with Claypole the jester

Whatsnewpussyhat · 12/03/2024 23:23

Just caught up.

I liked Matt's but the bed in his room looked like a toddler bed not a full sized single. Was really short.

Whilst Ben's style isn't my taste it was completely his and that showed.
He lives and breathes it and I appreciate that.

I love a bit of colour and funky wallpaper but I hate Rosin's style. It's just too much all at once.

I did wonder why, when a homeless charity has a building with so many of these ready to go perfect sized individual rooms, that they don't use them to actually accommodate homeless people?

WatchandWaitorNot · 12/03/2024 23:32

That was marvellous. I thought it was a great challenge, beautiful building and all the rooms the same size. No team work faux drama.

Loved how Michelle told the musical theatre guy off for his disrespectful smoking nun.

I agree that Matt was the standout. I also liked the woman who did the stripes that echoed the moulding on the wall. Her simple wooden cross was a lovely, respectful nod to the nuns.

Ben from Wolberhamptón is a hoot, but will he evolve?

However I am INCENSED at the laziness of Donmhal, the one who did the Sound of Music room with the semicolon mural. The semicolon I grudgingly agree did work grammatically, though was not necessary.

HOWEVER. He had also done some smaller prints and one of them said ”the sun is going to sleep and so am I”. That is NOT the lyric. The lyric (sung, as we all know, by little Gretel, sitting on the stairs at the end of “So Long, Farewell”) is “the sun has gone to bed and so must I”.

How many seconds would it have taken him to check that on You Tube? Lazy lazy lazy.

ThePanda · 13/03/2024 06:00

Just enjoyed finding this thread - so many of you were right with your bingo and it's only been episode 1 😁

Hadn't seen trailers for this coming back so was super excited to notice it was about to start just before 8! Even the kids like it.

Clowncesca's room was like a horror film nursery.
Liked Matt's but was it too safe/nice for this show?
I knew the first lady would be out when they gave her too much airtime!
Liked the end result of Ben's with the curtain.
The blonde lady who did the acid yellow room one should have gone!

Can we also bingo the briefs:

  • beach hut
  • trendy bar
  • nick nack shop
  • hairdressers
  • new build apartments
  • office breakout zone
Netaporter · 13/03/2024 06:33

@WatchandWaitorNot I’m loving your absolute fury at the misquoted lyrics. I once was listening to a radio phone-in back in the day on capital radio with Johnny Vaughan when a caller said a girl at her school instead of singing “it’s raining men” by the weather girls was singing “Israeli men” I still think of that when I need cheering up 😂

@ThePanda Welcome. Join us for the watch-a-long next week 😃

I think we can also add remodelling holiday lodges to brief bingo… and we know they have some to do at Blenheim palace 👏. My prediction is that Matt will be too good at this- as a bathroom designer he’ll be both spatially aware, able to meet a client’s brief and will be used to dealing with tradies and tricky clients. His issue will be ‘not enough flair’ or other made-up bollocks. He’ll have to endure a pairing with either of the migraine sisters (Poundland Florence Welsh, Hannah or Towie lookalike Roisin) or Ben because they won’t give way to their ‘visions’ putting him at faux risk.

It’ll be a Ben or Matt final I reckon.

Obviously this thread has given us two stand-out phrases;
-Clowncesca
-Wolberhamptón

This is MN at it’s best 👏

It could be that the charity is more about raising funds than providing accommodation or maybe there is enough temporary accommodation in the area. Providing accommodation and, presumably, meals would cost them money rather than bring it in so they'd have to raise more money elsewhere to cover that. It could even be that there are nuns rooms elsewhere on the property that are used in that way.

Did they give the name of the charity?

Edit: Google tells me it is Emmaus

Reading that article I posted below it has this photo and says Pictured above is the former All Hallows Convent and what the new B&B bedrooms will look like

well, none looked like that! 😂

@SoupDragon

Oh dear, if that was what the charity was hoping for I hope they bought in industrial quantities of magnolia emulsion because some of the rooms are going to need multiple coats of it!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 13/03/2024 09:12

Pictured above is the former All Hallows Convent and what the new B&B bedrooms will look like

Well that's definitely more practical and convent like!

Netaporter · 13/03/2024 09:39

The vision for the convent rooms is just lovely. Real shaker vibes. Much more appropriate! Cannot wait to see the stadium changing rooms. I hope they’re not palming this lot off on a women’s team because the men are too precious…. 🤞
