Looks like the producers have rounded up some ‘interesting’ contestants….😂

TonIght’s opening episode features renovation of accommodation in a Norfolk convent. From today’s Times :- “ one of the contestants first appears in an outfit that Carr playfully suggests makes her look as though she has arrived from zippos Circus and the Victorian enthusiast Ben is not an unflamboyant presence”

yes, neither of them covered themselves in glory did they?

It would be interesting to know how they manipulated it during editing though.

Doingmybest12 · 03/04/2024 19:19

The owner liked the pink and although I m not a fan of those lights I could see how the sense of being able to move lighting cheaply and easily made sense. It was all rather under whelming.

This. It was very blah. In fact when I looked up at the end I thought it was the 'before' picture rather than the completed room. 😂😂😂

I would just find Francesca very difficult to work with. She doesn't strike me as someone who listens much. The cork tiles were a case in point. When the guy tried to discuss it it was 'I like it and so does everyone else were having it's.

I think what happened was she just wouldn't engage in dialogue so he in effect just went off and did his own thing so it didn't end up very cohesive ( or interesting).

PaperBauble · 03/04/2024 21:42

I think the cork idea would have been fine as a starter, but it just wasn’t very creatively executed. Cladding the walls and making matching cushions is just meh in a plaster pink box. Domnalls ideas also just aren’t that interesting beyond painting abstract shapes and cute caricatures. 6 of one and half a dozen of t’other.

SoupDragon · 03/04/2024 21:51

It was a bad pairing. I don't think either of them took charge of the project so it ended up being them doing their own thing with no communication.

WhatsitWiggle · 03/04/2024 23:48

Had a nose at Graze's Facebook page - they delayed their "grand re-opening" after the filming by 2 days due to "some things not finished". That'll be having to source a load of chairs and adjusting the banquette seating then.

Everything else looks the same although I can't work out if the pink has gone back to cream. But the pictures are still up and the cork is there. I wonder if the production company paid for replacement chairs or if the owner had to?

Personally, I think Francesca and Domhall were as bad as each other and both should have gone. I guess that messes up the programme too much.

Could they have been the original chairs?

Ellmau · 04/04/2024 23:27

I suspect the cafes got the job done for free so can't get any compensation if they don't like the result.

Yes please 😊

CharlotteStreetW1 · 05/04/2024 18:36

So cork. MIL's otherwise pleasant house has a double length sitting room. Both chimney breasts are clad in cork. Varnished.

(and I have a cork handbag 😳)

I've been off sick today so have been binge-watching "Designing the Hebrides" on iPlayer which stars Banjo. Proper comfort TV.

usernother · 05/04/2024 20:47

I've watched the first 3 episodes today. Good grief, there is far too much garish colour for my liking and too many people using bright colours to show how zany they are. I really dislike Roisin's floral love, I would have asked for another room in the first episode if I was staying in her convent b&b room. Francesca is giving 'I'm mad me' vibes, I think she's rubbish at interior design. My favourite is the youngest man, I think I'd actually employ him if I was ever able to afford an interior designer. Hope he wins.

Ellmau · 05/04/2024 21:05

I actually like Roisin's florals but I'm not sure she has anything else to offer.

I wonder if we might feel more kindly disposed to Francesca if not for her clown outfit the first week?

jay55 · 05/04/2024 21:07

I liked Francesca standing up for herself. I don't like her work particularly but she did well on the sofa.

Well, we're using her actual name now so I'd say we've warmed to her slightly!

Nor me. Even her toned down designs are about her style rather than the client brief.

I prefer the candidates who "bring" their look to the client brief rather than forcing their style in whatever the client brief. Keeping the chalk board but in a better way is what I'd want from a designer.
I think Matt does that quite well, as did the nice beardy bloke that came third last time. I can imagine actually asking them for suggestions and designs knowing I wouldn't be railroaded into something I really didn't like because "their" style was big circles or stuffed animals.

OutOfTheHouse · 06/04/2024 19:53

I only realised this week that the young chap who seems to do well as a bathroom designer. That seems to make sense. He would have more of an idea about layout and usability.

Cleaningupthemess · 07/04/2024 11:00

I rarely take an instant dislike to anyone, but I really did with Francesca. She is trying so hard to be a ‘future TV personality’ and comes over as insincere, immature and attention seeking. She can’t move away from her own likes and style enough to produce anything that the client has asked for. She really irritates me. She needs to set up a business doing out kids rooms and stop trying to be an interior designer imo. Second in the super annoying, attention seeking is Ben. He has a tad more talent though but is not as special or as talented as he seems to think he is.

Halsall · 07/04/2024 12:22

We're only using her name because Ben came on here and told us all off 😬

LadyEloise1 · 07/04/2024 20:00

I get where you are coming from @Cleaningupthemess.
"Look at me, I'm so Unique/Crazy/Fun" type people - attention seekers really annoy me too.

I'm just popping on the thread which I've been lurking on to say ( unless someone else has and I've missed it) that Clowncesca is the spit of the comedian Jim Howick ( Pat in Ghosts)

As you were.
