Looks like the producers have rounded up some ‘interesting’ contestants….😂

TonIght’s opening episode features renovation of accommodation in a Norfolk convent. From today’s Times :- “ one of the contestants first appears in an outfit that Carr playfully suggests makes her look as though she has arrived from zippos Circus and the Victorian enthusiast Ben is not an unflamboyant presence”

I think F would have gone if D had accepted some responsibility.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 02/04/2024 21:05

Ultimately I think he is more talented, however he is not a team player. As an interior designer you have to work as a team with your client rather than dictating to your own tastes so the extension of the way he behaved towards Francesca is that he won't listen to clients. He was completely unfair about those chairs and tried to blame Francesca. In her position I'd have been pissed off with him just doing things with no consultation.

Thepartnersdesk · 02/04/2024 21:07

I suspect Donhall suffered a bit with gender balance there. Has it been all women out so far?

I think I'd be quite happy with anything Donhall did but perhaps he's a bit too restrained for this type of competition.

Overall though, he had way more potential.

Roisin was lucky with the wrong times. I don't think mustard would have gone with the rest.

Zebracat · 02/04/2024 21:07

I thought that the chairs being too low and the benches too high and that neither of them said, stop, we have to fix this means they both should have gone.

Halsall · 02/04/2024 21:09

I just quickly went back to check and the VO said 'Francesca AND Domhnall have sourced chairs which are quite low but they'll bring up to height with chair extenders' - then F was getting them out of the van and saying 'are they too short?' and sitting in one, and then D showing one of the extenders and joking about how it worked and how he’d get a job on QVC….

So - 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, by the sounds of it…..

I agree. They ended up being the right colour.

Francesca's first thought: 'are you interested in making this a space for CHILDREN??????'

No. It’s a brunch place in Mumbles.

😂😂😂

The concrete-y effect is one thing I dislike about Matt.

My kids are now cracking up that he's Bath-Matt.

😂

Doingmybest12 · 02/04/2024 21:40

I think D was arrogant ( didnt like his joking comment when he was told he was with F) and assumed he'd go through as F has been weaker in other weeks. I think F did question the chairs and he was keen to find the solution. Fair enough F asked about children but accepted when the client said no. Really he just did his graphics again ,which he was asked not to. His shelf of upside down chairs was dreadful. It was the right decision based on this week.

APurpleSquirrel · 02/04/2024 21:54

Also D's graphic prints didn't go with the Scandi-by-the-Sea at all; & our impression was the chair debacle was mostly on him not F.

newnamethanks · 02/04/2024 22:30

I suspect quite a lot of strop edited out there. Francesca lacks the talent that all the others have. She'll have to go next week. Those lights! Hells bells.

Ellmau · 02/04/2024 22:49

I liked Roisin's floral fabric, but the rest of their cafe had too many disparate colours in it for me. And too much orange. I do not like orange.

I quite liked Ben and Anthony's, apart from the rust effect bit.

Domnhall and Francesca were clearly not on the same page design wise, and their furniture was not up to purpose. I did like D's posters even if he couldn't be bothered keeping her in the loop which was arrogant and not teamwork.

viques · 02/04/2024 23:05

Is it just me but the thought of fabric cushions on cafe seats gives me the heaves. Split drinks, grubby kids hands, squished cake, eight, they can’t be properly cleaned every day, or week, or even month. Spray and wipe is the only way for cafe seating.

don’t understand why Francesca is still there, unless she is pulling in the viewers who can’t believe how awful she is. FrancescaClickBait, and yes, I have fallen for it.

LOL

The height of the bonketts with the low chairs.

Francesca and the Bonketts sounds like a sixties Motown girl band….

Theedgeoftheabyss · 03/04/2024 08:17

I don't think we got the full story of what happened between the losers. Clearly animosity but I will say I wish he'd been allowed to share whatever was on his phone as Fran totally dodged accountability as a result.

LadyEloise1 · 03/04/2024 08:34

I agree @Theedgeoftheabyss
I felt Domhnall was good enough to stay in the competition.

Doingmybest12 · 03/04/2024 17:02

I don't see why F wouldn't say she was responsible if she was. She was happy to hold her hand up about the benches. She has taken on board advice and criticism before. His approach of its not me and being forceful about it didn't work for him.

Madcats · 03/04/2024 17:23

I still don't understand what Francesca was sewing; were the tops of the cushions made of flexible cork?

My interpretation of "chairgate" is that Domnall already owned (or had just sourced) 1/2 dozen junior school chairs and suggested that they used those. Rather than saying "are you mad, they'll be too small" Francesca found even more whilst Domnall didn't think to assess whether adding those extenders was either practical or likely to split the legs. The upside down chairs of shelving looked hideously naff.

Whilst his pictures might have been nice, the knock-off Frieda Carlo style lady did not give off a Skandi vibe.

SoupDragon · 03/04/2024 17:39

Yes, the cushions were made of a cork fabric.

I still have no idea who bought the chairs originally. The leg extenders were Domnall's idea though.
