Looks like the producers have rounded up some ‘interesting’ contestants….😂

TonIght’s opening episode features renovation of accommodation in a Norfolk convent. From today’s Times :- “ one of the contestants first appears in an outfit that Carr playfully suggests makes her look as though she has arrived from zippos Circus and the Victorian enthusiast Ben is not an unflamboyant presence”

This show fills me with utter horror. I'm trying so hard to sort my own house out!

I find it "triggering"

Sadly I grew up in a house like these. I am exceptionally tidy as a result 😩

See everyone next week for a day at the races!

I hope we're all going to be wearing hats and posh frocks. Rather than leggings and a hoody.

viques · 19/03/2024 21:03

Next week.

Hannah does sophisticated circles.

Ben expects people who have paid thousands for a hospitality suite and who are wearing their best clothes to sit on re purposed horse blankets.

Clownesca paints wonky horseshoes and shamrocks on the walls.

Mines not as bad as these but it does make me think I'm one small step away from it!

We can only hope. But his was the nice green and white affair we just saw a glimpse of I think

I missed that @Netaporter - tis a fast-moving thread.

This is the one ‘talent’ programme that I genuinely think i could go on and do a better job that the contestants 😂

Does anyone remember an iteration of this programme that was presented by a guy who did architectural history bits in between the makeovers - was that the Sophie Robinson era? They would only have three contestants or so per ep and they would do a sort of interiors off in a semi final, final etc. Feel like I might have hallucinated it cos it’s changed so much

Netaporter · 19/03/2024 21:23

@happybluefern yeo Sophie and dan hopwood plus dicken someone? Loved dark indigo double denim if I recall?

@Netaporter ah yes thank you! That was a nice relaxing era of this programme 😂

GrouchyKiwi · 19/03/2024 21:26

My favourite bit of that programme was the upcycling challenge, where they'd give them a mirror or something and the contestants would (literally) staple chicken wire to it.

Loved that design show. At least the people seemed like everyday kind of folk. Sarah Moore and Lucy Tiffney went onto become famous designers / presenters after appearing on that one. The Great Interior Design Challenge x

and lovely Jordan who went on to form 2LG and has also done really well.

I think the boat/ganges theme could have worked, but they needed to go all in on the theme.
It basically looked unfinished as well.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/03/2024 22:39

Just finished watching.
What a shit show.

Brazil looked lovely but that's mainly due to having a professional illustrator on the team. He is very talented but it definitely made the other team's awful pictures look even worse.

I do love Sophie. Her style is just so happy.

PuppyMonkey · 20/03/2024 07:26

Joining late but had to laugh at dark haired girl from losing team stressing about how stretched she was helping everyone - and then it cut to Donal from Brazil who, without much stress, had created 50,000 superb signs, designed all the fabric for the circular seats and even went on to paint the extra bits on the walls after the others suggested it was a bit bare.Grin

I suspect the other two thought he would work on his "vision" and he didn't properly communicate what he had in mind. He comes across as someone it's very difficult to negotiate with. Ultimately they didn't work as a team and have a holistic view of what the sum of their individual contributions would be. They failed to plan - you can't just freehand posters if you don't have the skills so use stencils or have stickers pre-printed or use a projector.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 20/03/2024 07:46

It was interesting that the winners and losers completely flipped this week - one benefitted from working as part of a team and the other struggled, quite possibly due to having a domineering personality.

Yes - paint a river on the floor which weaves through different habitats. Name the boat "Ganges Explorer" or something. Paint habitat maps on the walls with the animals which live there...

don't stick a boat on the floor, kites on the ceiling and paint the room pink.

It sounded like they didn't know how to work as a team. I'm not sure if it was down to domineering personalities or just poor communication and collaboration skills.

The pedant in me did notice that on one of Brazil's (admittedly very professional and slick) printed posters, they’d mis-spelt the name of one of the animals.

But I suppose that was a minor detail in the great scheme of things, compared to the woeful 'Indian' stencils that didn’t even go all the way over the arch, and their horrifically bad sludgy posters. They should have been cringing themselves inside-out for all that. Oh, and the boat 😱

I do feel a bit sorry for cowboy hat girl because I think she knows what she’s doing, works very hard, and she was unfortunate to have been yoked with the two muppets.

Giggorata · 20/03/2024 08:26

Those posters of Ash's were astonishly bad and Ben's boat was just an initial idea, with no follow up.
If they had been working as a team, their team mates should have been able to veto both, or develop the ideas better, as they contributed to India being bloody awful.
The corner was horrid, too.
I think the right person went home - just.
Brazil looked fantastic in comparison to the other two. Donal saved the day.

I agree with you.

I'm not a huge fan of the show but I have to admit it was a good episode.

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 20/03/2024 13:23

I wish they would have a third judge who is the expert in context. E.g. for the nursery have a nursery worker, for this episode have someone who is going to actually work in the room

LIZS · 20/03/2024 13:29

Did they not used to have the "client"'s feedback.

SoupDragon · 20/03/2024 14:08

I've just looked at the zoo website and whilst I didn't find any pictures of the education rooms, I did find a video of a baby giraffe being born - it dropped from great height! Totally adorable (the giraffe, not the birth)

I also came across a fact file for the asiatic lion, as mentioned up thread.
