That was a fantastic episode.
Made me ugly cry and justice for Linda too. (Feel for Jade , who will take her in? )
It doesn't often get it right , but when it does it is sublime. I'm so pleased that George listened to Phil and went back to see his mum.
Such a good actor

Mrsjayy · 11/04/2024 20:03

Oh Eastenders was sad I'm also doing the ugly crying 😢

Norugratsatall · 11/04/2024 20:08

Really good episode tonight. That lullaby was so beautiful.

Having my doubts about a conviction for Dean though. Where's the motive?

Mrsjayy · 11/04/2024 20:09

OK I've composed myself, it was such a good episode, George Salmond is first class.

I wonder if the Dean did it will stick? Hopefully he deserves to just be put away for jades sake,

GloriousintheArctic · 11/04/2024 20:19

I cried too, I'm glad it wasn't just me! I thought it was a really good episode. Great scenes between the detective and Linda, and then George/Phil and George/Gloria. I can't believe it's 8 years since Peggy died.

I guess the conviction will stick. They've got the weapon so good enough evidence. We will get the symmetry of Linda not believed when it was true, but believed when it is not true.

I'm sure Jean would take care of Jade but she can now go to her mum in Pakistan.

So Ben got 6 years. He could get an early release but that is still Ben out of the series for a few years. I wonder if Callum will be keen to wait that long, they didn't even bother to show us his reaction.

the80sweregreat · 11/04/2024 20:22

No, no reaction from Callum and Jay snd Billy were more interested in some kind of secret they have ( maybe new trainers for Honey ?')
Jay said ' have you got it ?' So that's a bit intriguing. Not sure what's going on there.

Aquarius1234 · 11/04/2024 20:32

No Ben for six years! 🥳 🎉

I'm thinking the same, but then if they psychometric tested him, they would find he has psychopathic traits and would assume he did it for fun.

GloriousintheArctic · 12/04/2024 09:32

It's fairly obvious he's a very angry man isn't it? All that rage is going to spill out. And they've got Linda's witness statement and the weapon so enough to charge and probably convict him. It's now clear this is the reason he was brought back - to finally 'pay'. In soapland they all pay for their crimes eventually.

Southeastdweller · 12/04/2024 09:48

The weapon will be found but there’s none of his DNA on it. And how could anyone prove he got into the caff to bury the body? There’s also no motive. If this was a real life case it would be unlikely for him to be even charged but this is EE world so yes I agree he will be (indirectly) made to pay for raping Linda.

Soukmyfalafel · 12/04/2024 10:04

I've been watching the forensic programmes and it is a bit patchy. They can pick up DNA from someone breathing on an object, so although Dean has his prints on it there could still be DNA on the weapon from the six and also Jack's on the body. Jack's DnA would probably be on the database to rule him out as a detective. But this is soap land...

GloriousintheArctic · 12/04/2024 10:11

I've been watching the same programme I think, the 'real CSI'. It is often quite hard to find DNA and get a conviction.

Back in the Square, we saw Dean handle the weapon. They must have chosen such an odd item for a reason, it's probably quite hard to clean effectively so there will still be traces of Keanu's blood there, so that will be 'proof'.

Of course if Elaine finds out the meat thermometer that was under Linda's bed was the murder weapon, she is going to be giving her the side eye.

Mrsjayy · 12/04/2024 10:41

I can imagine her wrapping her flowy blouse round her with the accompanying side eye

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 10:47

I doubt that Elaine will find out anything ! She's so away with the fairies most of the time it might not even click it's the same utensil tbh.
There's an air of wrapping this story up , mostly because keeping the six story going was proving difficult I think , the sneaking around , the general unrealistic nature of all of it.
Will Nish return though ? The cafe is shut and losing money and has to be repaired.
I can't believe it's the last we've seen of him

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 11:28

It's scary though to think one person saying ( I'm quoting Linda here) ' that's what I saw' and planting some evidence could put you away for murder! The utensil might have been in the flat all along as Dean is renting it and people leave things behind they don't want anymore and he didn't know it was in the kitchen just in a drawer or overlooked it etc.
I know he said this, but obviously they won't believe him due to his prints or possibly Ken's DNA on it. How could you prove you're actually innocent? He didn't have an alibi for Christmas night either.

GloriousintheArctic · 12/04/2024 16:46

I'm guessing in real life it would be a good deal harder to get a guilty verdict! But there have always been mistakes made, there was a long running BBC series called Rough Justice which looked into miscarriages of justice.

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 17:27

Maybe in a few years time Dean will come back to get his revenge!
I remember the Rough justice tv programme , it must be horrible to know you're innocent , but not able to prove it. Of course nobody is going to believe you.

Well, you don't have to prove you're innocent. The burden of proof is on the prosecution to prove you are guilty.

So yeah, in real life I don't think that would definitely be enough.

A prosecution lawyer would say Linda has a grudge, she's an alcoholic etc. They'd say the meat thermometer could have been there ages. There's a realistic chance they wouldn't be able to convince a jury he is guilty.
Plus, what are they saying for a motive?

Southeastdweller · 12/04/2024 17:33

Also, if there’s any DNA on the thermometer by now, it wouldn’t just have Dean’s on it.

That's what happened with Max wasn't it? I guess they can't kick out a long running character though if it does get found out.

usernother · 12/04/2024 19:31

I reckon they will say Dean killed Ken to try and get Linda blamed for it. He wanted Linda blamed because he blames her for everyone in walford hating him. P.S I haven't actually thought any of that theory through, just thought it sounded good.

SagaNorensPorche · 12/04/2024 20:16

I wonder if the main policeman knows it wasn't Dean but is helping Linda get justice. At the court case he'll throw her a knowing look as Dean goes daaan. Obvs this wouldn't happen in real life.

Sounds plausible because otherwise most detectives would be suspicious that she’d neglected to mention she saw Dean taking the body to the caff. She also has motive to get revenge on Dean because he was acquitted of raping her.
