Not ignorant, or shamed just sceptical. Yolande is a fictional character whose storyline has been written for maximum dramatic affect in a TV soap opera. I'd hazard a guess that the writers are 'ignorant' about how SA feels too. Some of us aren't and are brave enough to call out abusers and so spare other potential victims. Women in EE are too often portrayed as victims. It makes goodTV drama.

The vast majority of SA victims do not speak out though, particularly if its someone they know.
They are showing how a woman who has been manipulated behaves, she's questioning her own behaviour as well
You are still ignorant and should feel ashamed for " I called it out so should they"

If only it were that simple

Bunionbabe · 24/04/2024 08:05

Someone with a different perspective isn't 'ignorant' or 'shameful'. Name calling is unpleasant too. This is TV drama which has chosen to show yet another case of an abuser avoiding justice and some woman being traumatised and her life in ruins. Cheap, sensationalist and nasty. Let's have a story where someone does call it out and gets real justice.

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2024 08:30

Might be justice served yet ! I hope so.
I don't want the pastor to get away with this

A different perspective is fine, blaming women for having a different reaction or perspective is not fine.

It's " they are to blame because they didn't..."

They are portraying realistically what happens when a serial abuser is in a position of trust and to me they are portraying the imbalanced power dynamic very very well.
She's trapped and knows it.

It's not cheap, sensationalist or nasty at all.

Abusers who already have some kind of relationship with their victims always manipulate and target, good on EE for showing this.
Stranger SA is much rarer than known to victim SA, this is partly why we have such pitiful rates of conviction.

Name calling ?

Karensgoldleggings · 24/04/2024 08:41

Just a thought
Linda is now nailing Dean to the wall with the help of a group of strong women.

Blaming women for their own reactions to abuse is always wrong and I will call it out.

I've said everything I need to say and look forward to tonight's

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 24/04/2024 09:07

Have to say I didn't watch last night's after what was a lovely, cheerful episode (bar the Whitney stuff) on Monday I knew it would go back to doom and gloom and wasn't feeling that.

From the bits I did catch though I get a feeling Denzil sensed something was wrong when Auntie Yo said not in front of Denzil. I think he's going to play a major part in this coming out.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 24/04/2024 09:25

@Karensgoldleggings Extremely good points made in your posts. And articulated beautifully.

Seems likely there's an interesting longer story arc to come which is what Eastenders often does so well.

Yolande's feelings of isolation from her prayer group (let's not forget some of whom previously accused HER of inappropriate behaviour...oh the irony) in contrast to Linda's circle of firm support.

Yolande being a woman of deep faith, whose whole life foundation is her church, I just hope Elaine is instrumental in causing bastard PervertPastor's downfall.

She was a great ally in the launderette scenes.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 24/04/2024 09:31

On a lighter note, I flipping love Patrick's music, dancing, cooking skills, dress sense...I want to adopt him as an Uncle 😎

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2024 09:41

Patrick has always been different and his love of calypso music on vinyl , rum , hats and jerk chicken is legendary
I often hear a song his playing and know the cover version more than the original ( such as many rivers to cross last week he was playing , I only know the UB40 version of that song )

Me too! I think he steals every scene he is in.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 24/04/2024 10:17

I like to think Patrick would raise a glass of rum to his MN fans! 🥃

Psychoticbreak · 24/04/2024 10:19

I did not watch eastenders for years then I went back and basically everyone from decades ago back there. I knew Jay and Lola were together and then Lexie was born but then this new blonde comes in and im finding it hard to separate her from lola!

He’s the greatest isn’t he. The best actor in EE

Karensgoldleggings · 24/04/2024 12:44

Thank you @AutumnalLeaves38
I agree
Elaine is really growing on me and I hope she helps take him down.
The strong women theme again

I love Patrick, that smooth voice Blush

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2024 13:12

Behind. Just seen last nights

Yes I think yolande with her faith and age is acting as one wouid who has been SA

KNEW nadine wasn't preg and jays baby

Smug !!!

So why did he give her cash. He should have done online and given samples and got address to confirm

Not just give money. Thick jay !!

Did he give her £800. Who has that in cash

Or even £400

Who does she owe money to. And is she doing the same scam to all her punters

And she was doing well. A nice flat. Law studies. Why all gone wrong

Jade now flying ? I thought mum might pop in tbh

I get the excitement of wanting to tell people. We told about mini blondes at Around 6/7w after a scan and heard heart beat

Cos if ended up with a mc people would know why do distraught

And whitney Britney story madness

OP posts:
Jellykat · 24/04/2024 19:28

I would presume Nadine owes money to her dealer?

Whitneys situation is so going to blow up shortly, silly girl!

Misthios · 24/04/2024 19:56

Sorry, Lexi and Britney are in the same year at school? Lexi is about 11. Britney is about 15. As if.

Lexi is supposed to be 11 and Britney is supposed to be 12 i think. But I agree, they look years apart in age physically.

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2024 20:05

Lexi has all the old say with adults, but Mollie Mae or whatever her name was kicks off and Lexi goes all quiet.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 24/04/2024 20:14

Oh poor Patrick. He looked so crestfallen when his efforts went down like a lead balloon.

At least the MN Massive appreciate your gentlemanly thoughtfulness, Patrick!

🥃<- have a consoling rum on us.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 24/04/2024 20:33

Elaine's gimlet-eyed glaring at PervertPastor™ was everything. Bet she's plotting his comeuppance.

He'd better prepare himself to be sent down at long last.

Hopefully, Burly Dave from C-Wing will mete out his own very special method of justice, too...

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2024 20:46

Lexi is 12 in July. Same day as my friends bday hence why I R.E.M.

Whitney looks older

I felt Like Whitney or Lexi saying to Lacey you are fat

But that's mean.

So know Zack knows but thinks Lauren dropped her in it

Lexi saw Nadine drinking

Jay def won't be feeling a kick

And is Nadine feeling guilty at all the money jay is spending

Sure lexi would love a Cot in her room / not !!!

Poor Patrick. Yeah man

Pastor and SA needs to be sorted out soon for Yolanda sake

And

Reiss just makes me cringe with what he says a

OP posts:
EconomyClassRockstar · 24/04/2024 22:23

Why is Lauren so invested in Whitney and Zach? If I was Whit, I'd tell her to back off and mind her own business. The whole storyline is ridiculous.

Misthios · 24/04/2024 22:27

Yes I remember the storyline about Lexi's birth and Billy carrying the Olympic torch before the 2012 Olympics so makes sense that she is 12 this summer. Britney the character might be 12 but the actor playing her is most certainly not. Similarly, Jade is supposed to be about 16 and the actor playing her is 20.
