I've just gone back and watched the bedside scene again. Debbie was wearing rings (I'm sure all patients in a vegetative state wear jewellery!). He fiddles about with the hand without jewellery and then the part where he is rubbing the other hand is hidden and then Bianca walks in.

Oh is that what he was doing? I didn't see any rings on Debbie's fingers at all.

Perhaps he could have started with selling his own wedding ring that he still wears, before trying to steal his wife's ffs!
