Or Call Saint Turner, as the show has really turned into.

she was still smiling serenely at the 'Celebration of Mothers' ceremony. because of the drugs?

When the Turners found out May's mother had been in touch and wanted May back I thought they said her circumstances had changed for the better. I assumed she'd got married and had the baby. Did I completely mishear?

No, you didn't. I'd forgotten that detail.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2024 13:33

I think they rounded up all
The loose ends, there isn't any need for another series.

I'm sure I heard there will be another series but do you think at the time of writing, it wasn't certain?

The agency said that May's mother had been in touch and wanted to talk to them - topic of discussion unspecified - not that she wanted May back.

And they said her circumstances had changed - which they had, with losing the job and having a baby - they didn't say for the better.

I think a few years ago, they said thee would be three more series. So next years will be the last one.

It will run until 2026 apparently, renewed again last year https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-64618977

Jennifer Kirby as Valerie, Helen George as Trixie and Leonie Elliott as Lucille in Call the Midwife.

Call the Midwife renewed for two more series, BBC confirms

The period drama has been been a firm favourite for BBC viewers since it first aired in 2012.

Actually, having reflected on the episode, Trixie's career is effectively over. There's no way Sister Julienne could keep her on after what she witnessed. Trixie could have set the whole hospital on fire (am I right in thinking the fire took place in the hospital and not Nonnatus House?). She's become a liability. And there's no way Sister J. could give her a reference. So she probably has no option but to go back to wooden Matthew.

Oh I also adore Millicent and Phyllis. They really do share a bond. Two moments that made me chuckle this episode:

Miss Higgins throwing Nurse Crane out of the house when Mrs Chopra arrived, Nurse Crane says 'has something untoward happened?' 🤣

Jeffrey talking about Sister Winifred 'we keep a very lively correspondence' 🤣

I love them, they remind me of my nan and her neighbour, both long passed!

Taytocrisps · 05/03/2024 14:12

I loved Sister Hilda - wish they'd bring her back.

They really did the dirty on Trixie.

She was so professional and unflappable and such a good midwife.
She performed a C section in South Africa. She climbed on that ship to deliver that baby. She was empathetic and smart and caring in a very non judge way.

Why did they have to drag her down so badly? She could have been promoted, gone abroad done all sorts of successful things but instead they have done this!!!!

To be fair they haven't dealt with most of the midwives leaving well at all...

Warmwoolytights · 05/03/2024 14:32

Did I miss something or didn't she just startle and drop the flame? I know it was as a result of being jittery on caffeine pills but I'm not sure jumping and dropping something would be career ending.

I think May's mother was supposed to have been communicating via the agency's Hong Kong office. Who were surely the people who would have spotted months ago that she was pregnant and down on her luck?

NoBinturongsHereMate · 05/03/2024 14:46

She spilled meths - on the table and down her apron -when she filled the lamp, and didn't clear it up. If she'd dealt with that before lighting the lap, the startle wouldn't have caused a fire.

Warmwoolytights · 05/03/2024 14:59

Ah, I see. But still not an immediate sacking. Poor Trixie, a character in need of a much better plot.

But it wasn't an isolated incident. We also had the issue with the placenta.

They've really done her dirty haven't they. She was always so solid, cheerful to the mums, professional but bubbly. Came across as surly and CBA last episode, like, ugh you got fluids on me, no congratulations to the mum or anything!

I think Sundays episode was outstanding .The storyline of buttoned up Miss Higgins was wonderful ,so moving .I would like to feel there will be another series .

I think it was Chummy who climbed up to the shop to deliver the baby. The girl was being abused by all the sailors.

It was Trixie and Sr Evangelina, and the latter hurt her shoulder in the process so Trixie had to deliver the baby with Sr E advising from the sidelines.

I'll take your word for it but in my minds eye it was chummy. It's like watching a film in my head.

PuttingDownRoots · 05/03/2024 16:31

Definitely Trixie. I remember her being allowed trousers for the follow up visits!

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/03/2024 16:32

My minds eye still sees Chummy climbing up the ropes on her own.

I seem to recall that it was Chummy who climbed onto the ship in the books. But they swapped it to Trixie for the TV on the basis that she looked better and the men could try and flirt with her. Which of course she shut down immediately.

I can't remember where I read that though, it was a long time ago.
