@TooOldForThisNonsense Trixie had rung someone and found there was a chance of a job in a chambers with someone they knew. He was ranting at her and said he had to find a way out of this with some dignity and didn’t want her going round with a begging bowl. Looks like he is about to lose everything in a get rich quick scheme next week 🙄

Thank you! Should watch the whole ep before posting.

i wonder if he fucks off to Panama or somewhere to skip his creditors

RosaMoline · 11/02/2024 21:34

I am wondering if he’s going to die doing something heroic, and then Trixie will find out there’s a life insurance policy, thus keeping a roof over her head and Jonty’s.

Apparently the way is open for him to return

We didn’t even find out if the other students had passed!

Yes we did. They arrived and celebrated.

We didn’t even find out if the other students had passed!

They ran up with their letters and said something along the lines of ‘we passed too’.

Evenstar · 11/02/2024 21:37

I missed that! So used to them not speaking or being acknowledged 😂

I didn’t know that. I was under the impression that he was going to be written out permanently.

Soubriquet · 11/02/2024 21:41

I honestly didn’t think they diagnosed cancer via asbestos till later. A bit early isn’t it?

I remember my Nan’s brother dying of it in the 00’s

That’s a shame. As nasty as that sounds the character is unconvincing imo.

I just wish Trixie had been allowed to be happy.

In other news

Dh has bought me an advanced birthday present
……..

Tickets to the king & I!!!

Having seen it with the marvellous Yul Brynner/Bryner not sure what this will be like but still looking forward to it!

Soubriquet · 11/02/2024 21:48

Yes I don’t know they have to have poor Trixie always getting the short end of the straw

bigredboat · 11/02/2024 22:15

I reckon Matthew will be written out by going to prison for some kind of financial crime

Belinda5 · 11/02/2024 22:21

What would happen if one of the students fail? Do they have to do the walk of shame past all their colleagues and more successful peers standing expectantly on the steps?

Belinda5 · 11/02/2024 22:22

I thought Sheila might have been a bit more involved in the story of the 2 abandoned children. It's kind of her area of expertise.

We never had such problems with Sing Hosanna when I was at Sunday School

Went to a Church of England school and it was a regular hymn in the assembly rotation! Used to get stuck in my head then, will be stuck in my head all night now!

We also used to sing it in a round with no problems!

I’m a retired solicitor. In my day our law school results were posted in The Times on a dark night in October. I remember playing dodge the friends as I was queuing up to buy the paper at 10/10.30 pm and then looking for a phone box as I knew my parents were anxiously waiting for my results!

So if you’re a ginge everybody will assume you’re Irish. I missed Conor.

i wish they would pronounce Deirdre properly. Deir Dra not Deir Dre’s

My grandad's sister in Inishowen, Donegal was Deirdre - pronounced DareDre.

He (Irish and red-haired) and my grandma (from Holy Island, Northumberland) had 12 children, all with red hair.

PastorCarrBonarra · 11/02/2024 22:49

I think that Coronation Street ruined the pronunciation of Deirdre.

Secondary asbestosis was first round in 1965. By two female doctors. First asbestos death in the UK was recorded in the 1920s. I'm from the town which had the biggest asbestos factory in the world and there were so many claims against the company they went bankrupt. There was loads of asbestos dumped in the woods when I was a kid in the 1990s and right next to a stream. Unbelievably there's plans to build houses there now

HobnobsChoice · 12/02/2024 00:11

Not asbestosis, mesothelioma

Quitelikeacatslife · 12/02/2024 00:16

Didn't you think it a bit off saint turner reading out debt collector lady terminal results to miss Higgins ?

Walkingtheplank · 12/02/2024 00:38

I love Sing Hosanna at school but I misunderstood it and thought we were imploring a girl named Hosannah to sing!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 12/02/2024 01:05

They have to be terrible with patient confidentiality, otherwise they'd never spot clusters and make the next big discovery thanks to Miss Higgins' incredible filing system.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 12/02/2024 01:11

Re asbestos, they'd known it was dangerous since the 30s but didn't get round to banning it in the UK until the 80s - and took almost 20 years to fully ban it. There are different types (brown and white, is there also a blue?) and I think they thought to start with that 1 type was safe(ish) and 1 was dangerous. And that uses that didn't create dust were OK. So the ban was piecemeal - type by type and use by use. A lot of manufacturers were already well through the processs of phasing it out by the time it was actually banned.

We certainly still had asbestos heat mats in our school chemistry lab in the 1980s.

emptir · 12/02/2024 02:13

A friend of mine said his parents had managed to buy their rather large house, a few years previously, with compensation money related to asbestos and damage to his father's health. That would have been around mid 90s.
