Something about a slimy fuckboy doing over a disabled young woman like that doesn't sit right with me
That's a terrible statement. What evidence do you have that Harry is a slimy fuckboy? Mollie has a physical disability not a mental one and is well able to think for herself.

MadeOfAllWork · 27/01/2024 17:17

Do remember though that those reaction shots could be being shown out of sequence.

Which is precisely why I deliberately put in the caveat of "this is what we were shown" in chronological order in terms of the programme.

Absolutely editing is at play. 100%. But Woolly was talking about having viewed a sequence that didn't exist.

This is Mollie's slate - you can literally see the 'ry' of Harry badly rubbed out.

She didn't just write an H then change her mind - she wrote his whole name out.

I'm not totally sure what your blow-by-blow means for my point, @WriterOfWrongs 🙂because what I'm trying to say (though admittedly probably badly!) was:

1 - it's mad that Harry doesn't give up EVER, even when his name is on the slate at the final moment - even when HE HAS LOST, in that moment; and

2 - it feels questionable to me that the only time in the whole show that we ever saw a name get changed after it was written was the ONE TIME that it totally flipped the outcome of everything? With massive real life cash implications for the people involved?

It must have been a judgement call for sure as to whether to allow Mollie to change her vote - and a pretty critical one, no?

Anyway, just my opinion - it's especially this that leaves me a bit bamboozled.

They knew her vote was the casting one, and had known for a while, and that it was likely for even longer - no wonder they filmed her slate. They probably filmed others too, in previous votes, in case it would make a good bit of drama (but didn't need to show them).

As for giving time to 'are you happy?' and 'are you locked in?' I think more time was given because this was the last vote (for dramatic effect), which also encourages ditheres to dither - but if someone's not said yes, or is clearly upset, all you can do is keep asking. As I remember it, we didn't see Mollie say she was done at any point. So whatyougonnado?

happinessischocolate · 27/01/2024 17:21

@WoolyMammoth55

Tbf we don't know if people have changed their minds before, maybe names have been rubbed out and it was not shown.

I do think it's a bit dubious and should be first answer, but as you say, it made a massive difference to the outcome, so maybe yes it does need to be Mollies final answer.

Of it had been the other way and she's wanted to change from Jaz to Harry but couldnt it would have looked dubious.

So I think they got it right.

WriterOfWrongs · 27/01/2024 17:23

As others have said, absolutely production will have filmed other people's slates before. I suspect they probably do that as a matter of course to have footage of who voted for whom for their own records.

My evidence is that he comes over as slimy and insincere out of game as he did in game. I'm aware a lot of people like him, can't understand why but they do, and so my evidence for this won't convince them. But yes, I think he is a slimy fuckboy and something about this makes me uneasy.

I'm aware Mollie's disability isn't mental but her physical disabilities have inevitably shaped her as all life experiences do. This is how I feel and one reason why I might not tune in next time (other reasons are to do with gameplay issues that make it less entertaining now). Anyone who can believe that Harry is lovely can accept that, because it's much easier to understand.

WriterOfWrongs · 27/01/2024 17:27

@Checken I made the admittedly facetious point about the spelling of Jaz's name because there had been a page or two earlier today on here about how people got it wrong. I wasn't the first to raise it, but I was making a nod to that conversation because it had been established it was Jaz instead of Jas.

Your point about the overlap between dark triad personality types and spelling pedants is not funny and is out of order.

Flamme · 27/01/2024 17:27

WoolyMammoth55 · 27/01/2024 15:44

@Flamme They weren't allowed any discussion about the banishment vote, so Jaz never had the chance to say anything like this.

Disagree! HE HAD THE ENTIRE SHOW TO SPEAK UP!

That comment was in response to a post saying " I think he did mention this, but didn't really say it such that he could convince Molly... that being, if we stop now and we're all faithful we split it three ways". Obviously he could only have said that while they were in the voting process.

I loved the series, such brilliant television!

The roundtable where Paul was banished was just bloody fantastic.

I do think Harry deserved to win, he was an amazing Traitor. I personally don't think he came across from what we saw as sly, nasty or whatever else; but his way of thinking ahead and being able to keep calm under pressure won him it. I did feel for Mollie but at the end of the day she coasted to the final because he protected her let's be real. Whilst effectively he stopped her winning, she had the full experience largely because of him and I don't think his 'influence' over her was pivotal in the narratives he was pushing. I suspect in 'real life' they did get along well but he knows its a game, which it was.

WriterOfWrongs · 27/01/2024 18:14

Good points @Mirrorpillar

Although even without Harry, I think Mollie was staying until the end. One of the players (can’t remember who) said that Mollie would never be banished. And they didn’t think she was a traitor. Her name was not written down at all throughout the game.

Harry’s name wasn’t written down at all until the end with Andrew doing it for the first time.

Harry said in the interview @noblegiraffe linked to that he made friends from the beginning and kept working on it. He said that Jaz was brilliant but that Jaz’s issues had been that Jaz never trusted anyone, so no one trusted Jaz.

I’d amend that to say Jaz didn’t have to actually trust anyone, he just had to make out like he did.

It’s a social game, you have to make alliances.

So the winner has to be someone who is a crowd pleaser and has some sort of disability? In 1958 I got into trouble at home for saying than Man U should win the FA Cup final, against our team, because they had suffered the Munich tragedy earlier that year, but I was only 9. At the end of the day the winner is the person who plays the game best, they're not there to please the audience, and that's what Harry did. Maybe the producers should consider some kind of handicapping system for anyone with difficulties, eg the older players get an advantage!

Good Lord, that doesn't even faintly resemble what I said. I don't mind a back and forth but blowed if I'm wasting my time responding to stuff I didn't say. You made it up, answer it yourself.

You might not tune in because they have contestants with disabilities? Confused

No, that's not what I said either. Are you guys even trying?

I am trying to understand why you are saying you might not tune in next time because one of the contestants this time was disabled and that has put you off.

What exactly about her disability means that she shouldn't have been on the show?
