Joe shouldn't have been played by Richard Armitage, but it seems like they find an excuse to shoehorn him into every HC drama on Netflix. I've not seen MK in anything else before, and found her surprisingly watchable, but Lily had the best acting range of the lot of them. Found it funny how they kept fobbing her off with a tablet when they needed to have 'serious/murderey' conversations

ChanelNo19EDT · 04/01/2024 21:40

Harlan Coban probably thought MK was too old! He is the writer who described a woman as a felony in a bikini. I can't remember what book that was but I actually emailed him (his email was at the start of the book) to tell him how revolting a phrase that was.

I think I must be watching a different version 😂

I think it's utter crap. She's a really wooden actress. The plot is literally filled with holes. The car chase in the helicopter was ridiculous.

Watched 4 episodes but don't care enough to carry on. Does MK have children in real life? She doesn't seem to come across as a very convincing mother?

I agree. She had absolutely no chemistry with the child. This was something that myself and partner both pointed out.
I really like Michelle in interviews etc but think this role was too big for her and I felt I was watching 'Tina from Corrie' still.

Where as when I watch other female actresses from Corrie in other things I find them believable I.e Surranne Jones

Mywhoopdeedoo · 04/01/2024 21:57

Joe Armstrong is the absolute double of his dad

She's also not at all convincing as a former military hot shot.

RampantIvy · 04/01/2024 22:07

Yes he is. I noticed that when he was in Hapoy Valley.

MyopicBunny · 04/01/2024 22:10

The actor who played Cory the whistleblower had very distracting lip fillers.

MyopicBunny · 04/01/2024 22:11

The scenes of MK putting her child to bed were excruciating 'SHHHHHHHH SHHHHHH!!!!!!'

SlashBeef · 04/01/2024 23:36

I'm torn. I really enjoyed some bits and I've got the hots for whoever played Shane Blush
Michelle Keegan doesn't play a convincing mother but perhaps that's intentional for the role?
The ages and timelines had me confused too. They all seemed far too young to have been up to all these escapades but I'm probably just a boring human 😅

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 05/01/2024 00:09

I liked it... despite the plot holes and Maya yelling at everyone 🤣

I thought MK was good. Loved JLs bitchy MIL character. Loved MKs wardrobe too but didn't like the house. Would hate people to be able to see me wafting around my house. (I wouldn't be dressed anywhere near as well as MK 🤣

I was disappointed with the ending. And didn't see the need to whizz forward 18 years...

wlv12 · 05/01/2024 00:12

I’ve just binged the first 5 episodes, I’m enjoying it but my husband and I are now taking bets as to how quickly she palms Lilly off on whoever is around because it’s literally all she seems to do!

Disturbia81 · 05/01/2024 00:25

@IcedPurple I don't know why, they say they do it in Hollywood as it's male directors living out their dreams 🤢
I honestly cringe every time I see a gap. There are SO many amazing older female actresses that could play wives to older males.
Hate this imbalance in the world

Yes, including leaving her with people she suspected or fell out with ten minutes ago. They only had a child so they could have the nanny cam plot device

happinessischocolate · 05/01/2024 07:29

LoobyDop · 04/01/2024 12:09

Was it filmed in Didsbury again? I haven’t watched it yet, but every Coben adaptation I’ve seen so far has featured at least one house on my old road.

I swear the football/rugby club where the detective ends up on the floor behind the shed, is the same one from "the stranger" 😂

So most of the plot relies on Maya's friend giving her a nanny cam? Or was the friend also being paid by the MIL ?

MrsNandortheRelentless · 05/01/2024 07:48

Meh, not great but I’m not furious about my time wasted on this series. (Which I have been known to be)
It was way too “Hallmark” quality for me.
She had a different (gorgeous) coat or jacket on in every single scene. Even wearing one coat in one scene, heading in the car to another location and miraculously wearing yet another jacket when arriving.

The gun/military content was just crap, the acting (the person at the arcade and rear of the arcade was just beyond wooden and shit.

I am spoiled by the high quality of Killing Eve and Happy valley I think. Nothing comes close to either these days.

bananamangoes · 05/01/2024 09:23

Michelle's lipstick is perfect no
Matter is happening

bananamangoes · 05/01/2024 09:58

Not sure this is as good as other HC dramas or maybe im now immune to the implausible plot twists and unrealistic characters

bananamangoes · 05/01/2024 10:00

There's impeccable brown lipstick in every scene

Even the flashbacks to military conbat

Not many army captains have a trout pout do they?

bananamangoes · 05/01/2024 10:03

The music is annoying

The rookie cop is about 35. Couldn't they find a younger looking actor?

Bit disappointed too many plot holes and silly developments

I only dare read this far for fear of spoilers and I'm actually struggling to watch and I usually enjoy HC series.

I don't like the main character and find her increasingly irritating and rude, and there's an enormous stretching of belief in the storyline! I'm on episode 4 I think and will watch it to the end but definitely the poorest HC series.

I also don't like her house!

Abracadabra12345 · 05/01/2024 10:19

Dartmoorcheffy · 03/01/2024 03:07

The tense dramatic music constantly playing throughout was very off-putting. It was ok but nowhere near as good as the HC adaptation with James Nesbitt.

Oh my goodness that was amazing. I loved James Nesbitt in that one!

The intrusive music trying to ramp up the suspense was annoying too

Nonplusultra · 05/01/2024 11:46

I usually love the escapism of the HC adaptations but that one had so many gaping plot holes it was hard to keep track.

If you could choose just one thing would you pick
a) the designer clothes
b) the big house
c) the toddler that just shushes on command and goes away to play when the adults want to talk.

Oneearringlost · 05/01/2024 12:22

Happyme2024 · 03/01/2024 04:38

Its so bad! Not sure I can continue.

Yep, and me.
MK is stilted and seems far too aware of herself, fabulous hair, svelte figure, worked lips, can't act.
Character is supposed to be fiesta female, but she comes across as patronising and cynical at work; very often, I've found, these are he default characteristics attributed to these characters in poor dramas.
Not for me

Well, I enjoyed it and checked it out on Amazon kindle where it is on offer for 99p if anyone's interested.

Love Harlan Coben series! This one is one of the best of the lot. Michelle Keegan is brilliant.
