I started to watch it and realised I had read the book and knew what happened:(

Rosiiee · 04/01/2024 12:13

Binge watching it! On ep 6 and there’s a lot i’m confused about…. Why is everybody dead!

Damnedidont · 04/01/2024 12:21

Brilliant!

Did you notice that Bolitar was part of one of the usernames.

I noticed that and had a good chuckle!

WellWillWoll · 04/01/2024 13:22

I think I must be watching a different version 😂

I think it's utter crap. She's a really wooden actress. The plot is literally filled with holes. The car chase in the helicopter was ridiculous.

Watched 4 episodes but don't care enough to carry on. Does MK have children in real life? She doesn't seem to come across as a very convincing mother?

tennissquare · 04/01/2024 14:07

@WellWillWoll , no MK isn't a mother but has been married to Mark Wright for years.

The scenes with her 'daughter' were very forced and 'play acting' I thought.

What Maya was wearing in the opening few minutes was not military uniform, it was something out of Cheryl Cole's 'fight for this love' music video.

😂😂 so true!!

Was it meant to be a genuine military uniform? When he mentioned her uniform she said she was in fancy dress and because it looked so ridiculous I believed it. It definitely looked more fancy dress than real.

WildFlowerBees · 04/01/2024 18:12

I got through the first 25 minutes of episode one and binned it. Poor acting from Michelle I'm surprised Joanna Lumley agreed to it.

LoobyDop · 04/01/2024 12:09

Was it filmed in Didsbury again? I haven’t watched it yet, but every Coben adaptation I’ve seen so far has featured at least one house on my old road.

Not sure but don't think do this time. I spotted Alderley Edge, Bramhall, Arley Hall, bits of Oldham, Ashton and central Manchester and bits of Castlefield.

FizzyStream · 04/01/2024 18:28

@LoobyDop a lot of it was filmed in Bolton I believe. I live in Bolton and it was in the local newspaper a lot when they were on location.

Moier · 04/01/2024 18:37

Read all his books.
Finished the serise last night. I think this British version is much better than the American book.
Loved it.

Mywhoopdeedoo · 04/01/2024 18:38

It was filmed all over greater Manchester and Cheshire - I also recognised the castle at rivington

Bolton school was obvious!

Have watched 6 episodes. Sticking with it but can't help rolling my eyes at a few really poor scenarios that have moved the plot along. Not great quality. But then I didn't like the other Coben drama I saw. Didn't make it past ep. 3. on that one.

Am an episode and half in. Very watchable (if only for location spotting) but also very annoying. I understand that MK's character may want to investigate her husband's death but why on earth does she insist on confronting all the potential suspects with whatever evidence she's found?

Surely if you see your 'dead' husband on the nanny cam when the nanny is there you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out the nanny is involved/has something to hide? Why confront her and tell her all you know thereby alerting everyone involved and laying the door open to any evidence being got rid of tampered with?

Also the nanny having some sort of family connection. I assumed she had been the family nanny but she's much too young so not sure why that isn't suspicious to MK and her delving a bit more into the 'family connection'.

MK then finds the secret phone and tells late sister's husband all about it (who may or may not know more) and then stomps off to confront a shifty looking manager in a gaming arcade? Surely you'd take it to the Police rather than trampling over all evidence. Also saying 'do you know my sister' to manger is a bit pointless. At the very least you'd show a photo so he knew who you were talking about?

However I will be watching the rest as I'm hooked even if it makes me roll my eyes at times?

I'm on ep 4 and thought the same. She has no strategy and basically blurts everything out to everyone. Grin

TheChosenTwo · 04/01/2024 19:57

Definitely quite different to the book, there are lots of bits I don’t remember although it’s been a long time since i read it so it’s possible that i have forgotten!
Another one wondering why they haven’t just taken the info to the police and instead are all now amateur sleuths. Why is the daughter (dead sisters daughter) now almost a pro detective?! 😂

Oooh, checked it out, now watching Grin.

It was a load of absolute tosh.

Naturally, I binged the lot.

Exactly, tosh but really good tosh, just what I need in the first week back at work.

For the pp wondering why Joanna Lumley did it - they asked her to swan around Arley Hall like she owned the place and they paid her, why wouldn't she do it!

I don't think the age difference is too bad - not as bad as some films anyway. Michelle Keegan is 36 and Richard Armitage is 52. I assumed that one of the points in the drama is he was a rich, succesful older man that she fell for and had a comfortable life with, but only later realised he was domineering and a wrong un.

Although I think his character was meant to be a little bit younger - the flashbacks to him and his brother as sixth formers was in 1997 - which would make the Armitage character more like early to mid forties rather than early fifties.

So where do we see the 52 year old women and 36 year old men in films and tv shows? It's gross and it is a big gap when it only works one way.

whatsappdoc · 04/01/2024 20:30

Loved Lily, what an amazing actor!
Loved the niece and nephew turning up to Alexander's company and being met by a robot asking them their preferred pronouns!

The tense dramatic music constantly playing throughout was very off-putting. It was ok but nowhere near as good as the HC adaptation with James Nesbitt.

The music was very off- putting. I had subtitles on and every 5 minutes it said 'low sinister music'. 🤨

tennissquare · 04/01/2024 20:41

Re Joanna Lumley taking the part, James Nesbitt was in the last one, Stay Close, it was his first Netflix show and he said when he saw the fee being offered he couldn't believe it/turn it down.

Exactly!

I wonder if the novel had such a big age difference? There seems no obvious plot reason for it and yes, in real life that would be a very big age difference.

Also agree with other posters that Michelle Keegan's acting is rubbish.
