It opened with a murder ! Reg cox
The rumour was that Nick cotton finished him off

Oh yes… nasty Nick wasn’t so nasty then. Crikey who was Reg Cox? Couldn’t they bring back his relatives?

And the east end was still proper east end, was it developed then into docklands? When I was clubbing in 90s/00s the east end was still a forbidden planet!

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2024 20:26

I'm from the east end and can remember all the gentrification around the dock lands in the 90s.
Some of those places now must be worth a small fortune , they were pricy enough back then! Lots of the money put up was from the 'brinks Matt ' heist apparently !
First ever scene in feb 1985 was Den watts and Arthur Fowler and Ali Osman finding the body of an old man ( Reg) and looked like he'd been murdered
Den went ' cor, it stinks in here ' and they recreated this scene with Stacey for their 30th anniversary with her saying it instead

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/01/2024 20:32

Ahh yes Reg Cox .
Dirty Den had the first line "Stinks in 'ere"

Dr Legg did Home Visits

Ali and Sue Osmon had the cafe and Taxi while looking after baby Ali .
Then Mehmet (Alis brother ) rolled up (and suddenly the Square was a much better place to look at)

I watched the most recent Classic episodes , can you believe it's nearly Christmas again Xmas Grin .
Stacey has tried it on with Dennis , he knocked her back , she went all full on fishwife .

Back in those days The Square just looked rough and run down. Now those house would be £1million+ and you wouldn't get within a mile of it to park as its right on the tube line .

Oh wow! That must’ve been epic living there then. I worked in Spitalfields around 2000s time when it was getting trendy (lock stock was being filmed in Shoreditch). You’d still see old east end types around sometimes. I saw the first EE with my family but must’ve been 12 or so then. I think…

You’re so right. DB and his family live in Hackney but no way can they afford to buy a house there. Very gentrified but you do still see original eastenders and pockets of it. But houses in their street are all tarted up, basements are now posh kitchens, not saying anything wrong in that but not what they were originally used for!

Born and raised in Hackney but ended up leaving as we couldn’t afford a family home. I sold a tiny two bed flat in Shoreditch and was able to buy a house still (just about) in East London but closer to Essex for a similar price.

My dad still lives in Hackney, in the large 4 bed house my parents bought in the 1980s when absolutely no-one wanted to live there…for £25k😭. There are still a few old Eastenders around but they are few and far between. Even properties on old council estates are beyond reach, it’s insane!

I think, when I was younger (derailing the thread a bit) I was slightly too young to afford a place in Docklands. And then like I said I don’t recall going there much. Not out of snobbishness but just too far. Maybe a club in 1990s. Actually in say 1990/1991 I was at college and had friends who lived in east end (lime house). We’d go to the bagel place in brick lane and sometimes curry houses there. I saw a bonfire night display somewhere in the “new” docklands at that time.

I’ve got a friend who’s an Eastender and bought her house in Upton Park, her parents have one in nearby Plaistow and a friend of her DM’s left her her house when she died. My friend (about my age) tells stories of growing up around there, bit rough. I’ve said this on another friend. My nana (DM’s mum) had a close friend who danced with the Krays at Catford dog track. So in theory people visited parts of London, for whatever reasons.

NadiaCravensworth · 29/01/2024 10:51

christ how old is "Logan" ? he looks about 45
(Denzel bully)

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 10:55

Logan did look about 45 !

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 11:20

Poor Yolande and Alfie too :(
He mentioned bad news.
I hope he isn't killed off as I like him although it doesn't look good
My brother has prostate problems and it's a nightmare for him.

Whattodo112222 · 29/01/2024 12:57

Logan looks like a grown ass man 😅

Southeastdweller · 29/01/2024 13:17

Terrible casting, even worse than Jade, who looks only slightly younger than Dean.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 13:19

I know the Jade story isn't great ( recovered in no time !) but it was nice to see her laughing with Jean. Jean can come and cheer me up any day !

usernother · 29/01/2024 13:31

Logan is the Luke Littler of Walford High (or whatever it's called)

😂
Yes, not great casting there

Whattodo112222 · 29/01/2024 15:46

Jade is so bloody miserable

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 18:43

Not surprised Jade is miserable with Dean as a dad and she's had that big op too !
Although her recovery time was very short, so she should cheer up .. 😂

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 18:59

Dee is driving me mad atm
It's even worse than when she had nothing and was up the food bank that time
Poor Raymond

NoisyBrain · 29/01/2024 20:15

Just watched tonight's live (I know, how old-fashioned 😆)
Because I am a total saddo was curious, I googled the lad playing Logan and he is 27!!

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 20:53

27! 😂

gingercat02 · 29/01/2024 21:01

27 is mad! He looked like a man in school uniform. Maybe teen actors are hard to come by as it's GCSE season 😂

Viewer23 · 29/01/2024 21:08

I think Denise is depressed. I feel for her, she should have left Jack when she had the chance because she really has been alone in that partnership for a long time - even before everything with Ravi.
I hope they don’t drag the Nish storyline out till next year, I was hoping he’d get his comeuppance at Christmas!
Poor Denzel, Yolanda and Alfie…

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2024 21:16

I do feel sorry for Denise , her acting is normally very good , but with this storyline she is a bit jarring. Maybe she is just a bit tired as it's been full on for her since she got back from Monserrat and Jack is enough to stress anyone out ! Plus knowing he slept with Stacey is eating away at her yet they are tied into this ' sixterhood ' thing and she can't go too mad about everything as it'll all fall apart
I don't envy any of them being stalked by nish either

Southeastdweller · 30/01/2024 07:36

Diane Parish seems a bit distant or uncomfortable lately, maybe I’m reading too much into it. But I do feel for her character - imagine seeing on a daily basis the woman your husband slept with. She’s too good for Jack. In today’s episode, he slept with Stacey (again).

Oh no ! Jack is such a cad :(
