I can't stand Elaine...for all her bazookie baboozzoms ...she doesn't have an ounce of compassion or maternal feelings .

It's a shame as the old Elaine did and I couldn't see her asking Linda to lie about Dean not raping her.

She is indeed awful. Presumably at some point they'll develop her character to explore why she's like that or give her an empathy implant.

It is realistic though and works with L/M being codependent, her alcohol issues etc

She can't half bellow though
George looked about 6 years old Sad

passiveaggressivenonsense · 03/01/2024 08:16

So I guess we will be meeting George's birth family who sold him. Plus I suspect his dad has been away in prison.

excelledyourself · 03/01/2024 08:40

Cindy obviously doesn't like the dad for some reason. She couldn't get away from them fast enough and then asked George straight away if he had done something when she saw he was upset.

lazymum99 · 03/01/2024 09:19

I did feel sorry for Elaine standing at the window crying. She can see George getting closer to Cindy and it is sad. She probably isn’t quite as confident inside as she comes across

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/01/2024 00:14

Wonder why they have brought his into the storyline

Not sure, maybe for the drama? Cue lots of angst and long talks with Cindy to try and work it out?

or maybe, to remind people of how things were REALLY different back then, George is somewhere between 50/59 - I think the older side as Colin Salmon is 62 (born 6th December 1961). We are not so far away from the "no blacks" times, and all the other wonderful (/s) racism and sexism and all the other nasty -isms of the British past.

Being white and not adopted, this never even entered my head as a 'thing' - I dont mean this to rude, so if my words are clumsy I apologise. I've probably made a complete pigs ear of this, so sorry in advance.

‘Farmed’: why were so many Black children fostered by white families in the UK?

From the 1950s, thousands of children of African parents were happily fostered by white British families. But for some, the well-intentioned plan was deeply damaging

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2024 09:56

My dh is adopted ( doesn't know anything about his real parents ) but my late in-laws went down the legal route and they wouldn't have adopted a child who wasn't white skinned.
In those days , what George's parents did in that kind of area was quite brave as not everyone would have been welcoming and might have even shunned them ( as she pointed out to him) and as Ian also said.
It was different times and attitudes were very blinkered.
George probably was taken by force as well
Then authorities did that to anyone not deemed fit to be parents , but probably more so if the parents were not white.
These two also did it for the money too , which makes it worse I think. You would be upset to hear this of course :(
Seems he had a hard upbringing and his dad still has racist views as well and probably didn't have much to do with him because he wasn't white ( seems to be hinted at)

NadiaCravensworth · 03/01/2024 10:15

@the80sweregreat I think the dad was in it for the money, but the mum just wanted a baby

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2024 10:17

Yes, no wonder he doesn't have much of a relationship with him
His mum must have had it tough

She's probably slept with him.

Following the arrival of his adoptive parents, George Knight (Colin Salmon) in EastEnders will make a huge discovery about his past when 2024 begins.

Shortly after Gloria (Elizabeth Counsell) and Eddie (Christopher Fairbank) turn up in Walford, they will tell George that he was adopted via a process known as farming, which saw children advertised for money for parents looking to give young people a home

Saw this in an article while looking for something else, is it farming when the adoptive parents are paid as well as paying the birth mother? Kind of feels the wrong way round

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2024 12:17

The mother made it sound as if they were paid
Nothing about his real parents.
Maybe he'll find that out at a later stage maybe? Or he might want to leave it!
It is a lot to take in

equilux · 03/01/2024 14:19

He won't leave it - it's EastEnders innit!!!

equilux · 03/01/2024 14:20

So someone gonna go daaaaahn 🤣

qazxc · 03/01/2024 14:21

George's dad seems a wrong un, probably only likes the fact that George was a successful boxer as it is a boost to his macho ego but doesn't really care otherwise.
Something happened between him and Condy/ Rose but probably more along the lines of him being a perv than her willingly sleeping with him.
The George/ Cindy affair seems unavoidable as they seem to be constantly running to one another.

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2024 14:56

I bet that George's dad knows the people who were after Cindy in prison. Or something to do with the nine years that are unaccounted for when she went 'missing ' ( back into witness protection) from Marbella and are never mentioned.

iknowimcoming · 03/01/2024 17:07

Well going by the scriptwriters normal lazy standards (and the incredibly small gene pool in the east end) George's biological dad will probably turn out to be either Patrick (done before much?) or Jim Branning (because boxing obvs) HmmWink

Happy new year everyone btw! Smile

LuluBlakey1 · 03/01/2024 17:37

Perhaps his real parents will be someone we know from Eastenders- Peggy Mitchell- would make him Phil's and Sam's half brother, Lou Beale- would make him Ian's cousin, Dot Cotton....not sure what that would make him......JimBranning- that would make him Jacks' half -brother, or Patrick Trueman.

murasaki · 03/01/2024 18:17

My money's on Winston from the market 😂

passiveaggressivenonsense · 03/01/2024 08:16

I don't think his birth family will have sold him. Money went to the adopting family not the birth family in this case it seems. More likely that the babies were forcibly removed and the authorities then paid "good" white families to bring the children up.

equilux · 03/01/2024 19:47

George wasn't formally adopted so how could he have not seen his birth certificate?

Jellykat · 03/01/2024 20:18

Well i wasnt expecting Penny to dob herself in, wonder if they'll believe her?

Wheres Linda gone? i didnt hear anything about her going away... presumably as the six seem to be cracking on with life, the terrible deed has been swept under the carpet quite easily i'd say.

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2024 20:21

It was blink and you'll miss it, but Elaine suggested that L went away for a few days to visit one of her other children when she found her drunk that time upstairs

Jellykat · 03/01/2024 21:36

Ah thanks @the80sweregreat i must've gone for a wee break during that bit!
