@MarkWithaC
Know what you mean, but there's a chance the eliminated one wouldn't end up in the dance off again straight away - sympathy bounce and all that - or be sent home by the judges; and if they were happy to do one more week of Strictly, where's the harm?
I can't see that becoming a rule though, unfortunately, so I guess we'll never know.

Unfortunately I think the 'if' is the point, really – some people would probably jump at the chance, others might really not want to come back. And unless you could strictly enforce it, which they can't, they couldn't be consistent about it year to year.

I love Krishnan, but I don't think he has the technical skills to make the final. To be fair, I don't think Bobby does either.

I don't, really. But stranger things (Chris Hollins) have happened! Although was that in a year when they didn't have the dance-off? If he could avoid the DO then I think he'd have a serious chance. But unless someone like Layton or Ellie SERIOUSLY stuffs up a DO, he's going to be the weaker and therefore the one to go.

nomdegrrr1 · 25/10/2023 12:21

I love INXS and had their albums playing in the background for years. I'm hoping that they do the song justice. I'm normally a big fan of Dave Arch but Michael Hutchence had such a wonderful, smokey, sensual voice that it would be hard to live up to.

I also struggle to imagine two fairly sunny characters like Annabel and Johannes doing a tango, especially to that song. It's going to be a big ask.

Aquarius1234 · 25/10/2023 13:51

It's very extreme to quit Strictly unless majorly injured.
The fact the Amanda did yet all the others haven't, tells you that Amanda probably considered quiting right from day 1.

Aquarius1234 · 25/10/2023 13:54

I can't imagine get told by the producers it's fine if they quit during the show.
Or it doesn't matter if you suddenly can't handle the publicity.

I can’t imagine any way that Layton isn’t in the final. He’s going to ace any dance off. He has an amazing spine. And that leg thing…

Bobby might make it! He’s adorable. Extraordinarily long- I wasn’t expecting him to be so strong and he’s a lovely partner.

MarkWithaC · 25/10/2023 14:16

Layton will certainly be in the final. I think he'll be the first one voted off though; that's what usually happens to ringers.

Tlolljs · 25/10/2023 14:21

I think strictly was really lacking last year without Giovanni. Now this I’m disappointed not to see him at Halloween at least. I’m officially sulking.
Mind you Vito is cheering me up. 👍

ilovebrie8 · 25/10/2023 14:39

With Amanda leaving they should have brought back Eddie....I know his days would be numbered but I liked him and he could have done his Halloween dance...shame!

PantsToItAll · 25/10/2023 14:41

Can anyone tell me when they film the group dances? I started watching after covid when they did it all the filming in their group bubble in the summer before forming bubbles with their celeb when live shows were on. (Bubble seems a strange concept now!!) I’m aware it’s filmed in advance but is it earlier on the Saturday recording day (I see an audience sometimes?) or is it much earlier on a different day?

Same for the dancing to the music guest?

Someone on here said Gio had an injury when group dances done (so filmed in advance?) which would explain why hardly seemed to feature in them this year. I wonder if they can give him some now he’s not got a celeb or if too late? Nikita, Carlos, Vito and maybe Kia seem to have been featured a lot this year. Hardly seen Johannnes.

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/10/2023 14:47

Extraordinarily long
Yes. Which is why I had Bobby as Jack Skellington and Dianne as Sally.
They could have done a lovely waltz or AS to Simply meant to be or a couple's choice to This is halloween.

Edited

I think the pre-series recording of all the pro dances began with Covid, and maybe the dancers, choreographers and producers found it worked well, meant they didn’t have to sacrifice any time teaching/perfecting their celeb partners.

I have a vague memory that prior to Covid, the pros put together their dances before the series began, and then each week rehearsed the relevant dance before it was filmed at the live show.

EDIT: Don’t know about the dances to the singers each week. Some of them are possibly pre-recorded as well. Maybe someone who’s been in the studio audience can tell us?

They don't kick people out mid-final any more.

And funnily enough, when they did, the ringers tended not to be voted out first, even if they'd been in dance-offs earlier - when push came to shove the worst dancers tended to go out first, leaving the ringer to battle it out with the People's Favourite.

As if he'd have accepted!

That would indeed have been a poisoned chalice.

Yes, get him back on so that he can be in the dance-off again.

Hmm
ilovebrie8 · 25/10/2023 15:18

I'd imagine they get paid more the further they get in the competition...!

Not necessarily he'd have been in the dance off there are a few at the low end, and as someone else already said up thread he may have got more votes next time around...no one knows how things will pan out.😉

EvilRingahBitch · 25/10/2023 15:24

Yes getting the last eliminated person back at this stage would be terrible. If they felt the need to keep the numbers up they could skip an elimination later in the series.

The only time they'd do that would be if they had additional drop outs in the week of the final and they were down to a single finalist. In that case they'd bring the evicted semi finalist back, who'd probably be happy to do it (depending on level of notice) because the person evicted in a four person semi-final might even have been topping the vote so it's perfectly possible to win from there. If I were the producer and I knew I was heading for a two person final then I'd definitely shove the evicted semi-finalist a couple of grand to carry on training in secret just in case of disaster.

Quite often when someone gets a bye they don't come back, so maybe they should just not have an elimination on a week when so eone has a bye. Then if they do come back have a double elimination. That would keep the numbers on track for the final and wouldn't involve asking someone to come back. Although if they pulled out in the final like AJ nothing can be done about that.

I agree they should not have an elimination in a week when someone has dropped out.
I suppose it would cause a stink if someone argued that it means (say) Les, who went out on a samba, which was clearly a nightmare dance for him, can avoid being kicked off for that reason, and then stay in the following week because they get (say) a slow waltz and they're better marked for it.
But no solution is perfect, and at least this one would mean you don't end up with three couples in a scenario that's a bit too much like They Shoot Horses Don't They?

ilovebrie8 · 25/10/2023 15:51

@dollybird that sounds like a good idea 🙂and a sensible way to approach it in the future.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 25/10/2023 16:43

I think maybe the reason they don't do non elimination weeks is because of the time in the broadcast schedule set aside for Sunday show?

That’s a really good idea! They could still have a Sunday show, just spend longer on the judges with Claudia section, etc.

When I was at the live show years ago the singer for the Sunday show with the dancers was recorded on the Saturday night too, not sure if it's still the case though.

I love the Len's lens bit (will probably call it that forever 😆). They could do so much more with it, feels like a real wasted opportunity most weeks.
