I don't believe in ghosts. But this is BBC2, not Channel 5 or the usual channels which run this type of crap. So I'm watching. Anyone else?

I am - I listen to the podcast.

GodblessHookyStreet · 13/10/2023 21:11

Yep I am watching

Houseplanter · 13/10/2023 21:11

I'm watching. Not sure what to think tbh

LunaNorth · 13/10/2023 21:28

Danny dresses like a toddler.

LunaNorth · 13/10/2023 22:03

I really enjoyed that but I think they were a bit mean to present Miss Howard as so scary. She seemed pretty harmless and looked quite twinkly in her pictures.

Danny dresses like a toddler.

Yes, he dresses like a cbeebies presenter

I'm watching it back and I already can't take it seriously - it sounded like the Cambridgeshire woman said "any cock that we brought into that house wouln't work properly."

I turned it off after about 15 minutes. Drivel

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 13/10/2023 22:22

Its an hour long isn't it?
My worry with it is, as much as I love the podcast, most of the stories could easily be told in 10 minutes but they're dragged out to half an hour so I worry about how engaging the TV element will be for the same kind of stories.

LunaNorth · 13/10/2023 22:26

We said the same 😂

LunaNorth · 13/10/2023 22:27

About the cock, I mean.

bellac11 · 13/10/2023 22:28

I didnt believe it but it made gentle simple Friday night telly so Im in for next week

ButDaddyILoveHim · 13/10/2023 22:33

Danny's red beanie hat was scarier than any ghost story. He's definitely got an overgrown cbeebies presenter vibe.

I love Uncanny though. I thought it was a good yarn. Looking forward to next week's episode.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 13/10/2023 22:42

It's always weird seeing radio people on the telly. Evelyn looks so different than I expected from hearing her voice.

Bbq1 · 13/10/2023 22:47

I'm totally new to Uncanny as from tonight and I enjoyed it. Mrs Howard' wasn't evil, seemed quite caring. Think they could maybe do 2 cases per episode. I'm from Liverpool and always hoping for a timesslip walking down Bold Street! I'll be tuning in next week.

Cherryana · 13/10/2023 22:51

I watched it.

I slipped out of time once and I felt absolutely awful about it. It feels like something you didn’t ask for happened to you and all what you ‘know’ (time/space) is literally yanked from you. Plus it makes you feel alienated from everyone else.

One person who is not my husband knows my story. I have told it on here before but I would never say it to anyone in real life.

LunaNorth · 13/10/2023 23:18

Would you mind telling us your timeslip
story again, @Cherryana ? I find the whole idea fascinating and very convincing.

After all, linear time is just a human construct.

brokenbitbybit · 13/10/2023 23:28

I'd love to hear too @Cherryana if you don't mind?

Alltheyearround · 13/10/2023 23:33

Me too @Cherryana I have always been interested in time slip as a phenomenon and am currently reading 'The Moondial' (childhood fiction favourite).

GoldenKiwi · 14/10/2023 07:48

I'd also like to hear it @Cherryana !

I absolutely loved last nights episode. I've been a big fan of the podcast for ages and I thought it worked well on TV.

What about that final twist of Miss Howard having lived there?

And the Bold Street time slip stories have always fascinated me.

Loopytiles · 14/10/2023 07:53

I enjoy the podcast and like Danny’s presenting in it, but agree they could be half the length, so am not sure it’ll work on TV.

find it strange that the sceptic guest never, ever suggests that the person telling the stories could be lying, when this is often more likely than other explanations the sceptic comes up with. They also never seem to interview anyone they or the person telling the story say have corroborated things.

inreallife · 14/10/2023 08:00

LunaNorth · 13/10/2023 21:28

Danny dresses like a toddler.

The red coat is the red coat he wears in the podcast artwork, and he said it's a reference to the red coat in 'Don't Look Now' so I guess that's an explanation of sorts as to why he looks like a child.

Cherryana · 14/10/2023 08:02

What is the point of lying?

You open yourself up to ridicule, people thinking you are crazy - not really anyone thinking better of you. It’s why most of the time, most people don’t say.

As a reasonable person myself I have had to ask myself - did I experience a psychotic something, is it something in the wiring of my brain and the answer is maybe.. the best explanation I have is I tuned into a different frequency that most of the time, most people are not tuned into.

I have told my story on mumsnet but it makes me feel unsettled and exposed …so this time I am not going to.

Love the show and also love the annual Halloween spooky threads as I feel less alone!!

Loopytiles · 14/10/2023 08:10

Humans lie for lots of reasons, and it’s one of the obvious sceptic explanations for a lot of the stories on Uncanny.

GoldenKiwi · 14/10/2023 08:26

Fair enough @Cherryana I understand. I like your explanation of being tuned into a different frequency, that is how I would interpret these experiences too.

I for one don't believe in ghosts being spirits of the deceased. I see it more as a glitch in the matrix (if you want to go down the rabbit hole of simulation theory!) or time overlapping somehow. That especially resonated with me when the lady told her experience of seeing the man and him being surprised to see her!
