I don't believe in ghosts. But this is BBC2, not Channel 5 or the usual channels which run this type of crap. So I'm watching. Anyone else?

I thought it was really good- they didn’t just tell the story like on the podcast they did a lot of research into the history that I found interesting and I think it relates well to on screen. The podcast sometimes I zone out of because I’m a visual person and I liked it more on tv. I can’t wait for the next one

gaggiagirl · 19/10/2023 18:03

I can't wait for the next one. Although I'm team sceptic I've enjoyed the podcast and really enjoyed it in TV format.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 20/10/2023 08:09

I love a bit of woo but I do think the Miss Howard lady seemed genuinely troubled and I wondered about the possibility of a disassociative state as a result of trauma or abuse - the bit about her dad sitting between the beds and then the heavy weight on the bed sent alarm bells ringing for me.

Alltheyearround · 20/10/2023 18:06

Can anyone give a brief summary of the witch farm?

Too scared to listen (I know, I'm easily frit), but would love to know about the electrics and what happened in the end.

Lilibert456 · 20/10/2023 18:14

Podcast is much better than the TV show. I am not too happy that the current podcast is just regurgitating old stories. Feel a bit cheated.

Dotcheck · 20/10/2023 22:54

Oh no- I haven’t watched tonight’s yet. I thought he promised all new material?

Graciebobcat · 21/10/2023 06:01

Enjoyed it, quite spooky again.

Love Evelyn's Margaret Lockwood hair.

whatamess100 · 21/10/2023 07:19

I watch it, i love the podcast too

I couldn’t understand why the sister moved back into the house with her son when she’d had such terrifying experiences there.

The most disturbing thing about the programme for me was the photo of the Victorian child miners and the idea of them slaving alone in complete darkness. Absolutely heartbreaking. There should have been a warning about potentially upsetting content I think. Their eyes with no hope in them.

NannyR · 21/10/2023 09:18

I thought that sleep paralysis was a totally plausible explanation for him levitating in bed. I experience sleep paralysis and for me, it feels like someone is sitting on the end of my bed, tugging my duvet off, it feels 100% real and the feeling of absolute terror that goes with it is awful. It usually happens when I'm really stressed or anxious about something or having trouble sleeping, so I can see how it could occur if he was already worried about ghosts.

I enjoyed it but was disappointed they didn’t ask the current inhabitants of the house if they had seen anything unusual. I suppose it might have spoilt the effect of the show a bit if they said no.

Probably don't want to get involved as it might put off future buyers . Now it's labelled the haunted house .

They did ask last night when Danny and the man in question returned to the house. The gent living there replied, "We've been here 16 years and never experienced anything paranormal/unexplained."

Cropcycle · 21/10/2023 11:28

That was my first thought. Why the heck did she do that and with her young DS.

lovelyjubbly888 · 21/10/2023 12:16

One thing I really like about it is that they do look for other explanations, what with the psychologist man and mould expert from previous episode. I’m not really team sceptic or team believer - I think I’m a bit of both! Believe their experiences but also try to look for the potential explanations.

In regards to the sister moving back in - I assume the house had been passed down to her? Although she could have easily sold it and bought elsewhere, so perhaps she didn’t feel her experiences would stop her living there? Maybe she found that nothing untoward happened once she was older.
Did enjoy Miss Howard although again with them being kids I do think they likely heard stories/some reason for just ‘knowing’ she was called Miss Howard.
Also do think the levitation in the last episode must have been sleep paralysis, that was my first thought.

Danny's red beanie hat was scarier than any ghost story. He's definitely got an overgrown cbeebies presenter vibe.

I love Uncanny though. I thought it was a good yarn. Looking forward to next week's episode.

Lol! That's exactly what I thought but couldn't express it. Looks like he's been promoted from cbbc!

Bbq1 · 21/10/2023 12:29

Those of you who believe it was sleep paralysis what do you think was going on with the Enfield poltergeist?

@Alltheyearround it was good. I prefer uncanny though as I like short stories. Witch farm was interesting though. Basically an old farmhouse in wales and spooky things start happening including husband going a bit mad if I remember rightly.

santapawsiscomingtotown · 21/10/2023 12:49

One thing that makes me sceptical about ghosts is the 'ghosts' always seem to be recognisable figures ie. Victorians, 20th century war attire, maybe Tudor clothing as we all know what they look like. No one ever sees cavemen/women, or ghosts of those from ancient civilisations - Romans, Greeks, Egypt etc etc.

UK /Western Europe and the USA seem to be obsessed with ghosts but I'm not sure it's the same in other areas of the world.

It's always spooky Victorian children and the like. Surely if ghosts exist there would be a lot more stories of sightings in other places in the world and of different time periods. It's always just much of the same.

People round the world have seen ancient civilisations eg Roman centurions, but I admit, they’re rarer.

Other parts of the world are definitely into ghosts, far east for a start. We just seem to know about the ones in our own countries, parts of the world, as they’re the ones most talked about there.

I actually thought that one had been debunked and the girls admitted to throwing things around.

I would be interested to compare a set of photos of someone jumping out of the bed to the levitating Enfield photos.

I'm watching it now. Did the first woman say the clocks in the house were always going backwards? No-one has picked up on that yet but surely someone else would corroborate that story?

A clock repairer on the Uncanny Facebook page said that it's actually quite easy to make clocks go backwards. I think someone's been having a laugh. Although thr woman in last weeks episode, Cate, did post in the group that everything she'd said was true. She was a bit defensive as lots of people had been very sceptical about her story. Especially after the blog post was mentioned.

Graciebobcat · 21/10/2023 13:34

An atomic clock in my house resets itself at around midnight and it goes all weird, hands spinning round for a few minutes. I don't stay up past midnight very often and only found this out recently!

Thanks for the link. I didn't know that case had been debunked. Tbf, Janet does look to be throwing herself around rather than levitating. However, the journo who reported on at the time was adamant on last night's episode that it was genuine. He said stuff was spinning round the room with nobody touching it. I wonder why it was on Uncanny when it's no longer valid?

I believe there have been reports of ghostly Roman soldiers, but generally speaking I agree with your first para, there seem to be very few sightings of ghosts from the modern era.
