I'm hoping Alison gives Bake Off the kick up the backside it needs.

It starts later and later every year. It always used to start in the summer, now it is an autumn programme.

If you meant to start the Bake Off 2023 thread, it might be worth asking Mumsnet to change the title - this didn't show up when I did a search.

I'm looking forward to it. I think Alison will be genuinely interested in the baking, which neither Matt nor Noel have really managed, and I'm excited that they might actually have listened to feedback and moved away from challenges which are basically impossible in the time limits set.

I think the contestants are normally announced the Tuesday before. Extra Slice is moving to Thursdays which will take a little getting used to, it worked for me as very gentle Friday night viewing.

They did the same with the Apprentice, that used to start in February and run to June. There's enough on in the Autumn and Winter without these two being moved later in the year.

I think it’s better in the autumn, it never felt right starting in August.

@MotherOfGodWeeFella Sorry. I hope you didn't think I was being snippy. There are so many channels and Bake Off rip offs that I thought 'Baking Off' may be a dupe on another channel. I was genuinely shocked that Bake Off was about to start a new series!

couldnt agree more Autumn is the perfect time nobody wants to watch bake off on a sunny warm day the only problem is that when it is filmed it frequently has problems with the bake in a hot tent

I don't get the impression they've changed the filming schedule so they were probably filming right through that very hot weather earlier in the year.

I have to disagree. Strictly is perfect Saturday Night viewing. Bake Off is perfect mid-week viewing.

I totally agree with you on that. What I meant was that the appearance of Strictly heralds the imminent arrival of Bake Off. x😉

Only thing is, it doesn't look like a promising group this year. I hope I'm proven wrong...

I'm not sure how you can tell? It always takes a week or so to start to know them as they relax in to it.

This was a couple of weeks ago, no more country themed weeks (hurrah) and Paul said it will be more traditional this season. New theme week is party cakes which sounds lovely.
