Aison grew on me TBH.

EvilRingahBitch · 26/09/2023 21:40

I like Alison in small doses - was very slightly concerned that she'd be a bit much on Bake-Off, but she's giving a nicely judged warm and not OTT performance. Her connection with the contestants was always likely to be an improvement over Matt.

Littleguggi · 26/09/2023 21:40

Loving the series so far! Can't wait for next week! That's my Tuesday night sorted!

LunaNorth · 26/09/2023 21:55

I really enjoyed that! Felt like old-school Bake Off.

Whattheduck · 26/09/2023 22:09

Wasn’t looking forward to Alison being on it thought she might be too over the top but thought she did a good job

Romeiswheretheheartis · 26/09/2023 22:10

That was the best Bake Off I've seen for years! Lovely group of people, Alison was a huge improvement on Matt (and I'm not normally her biggest fan), and the cakes were all proper, lovely looking cakes. And some actual humour, not forced or stupid comments that no one finds funny. Fab!

LadyBird1973 · 26/09/2023 22:11

I felt so sad for Amos.
Allison was fine though, I think this is a good show for her.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 26/09/2023 22:17

I really enjoyed that. Agree about the humour being less forced. Alison’s enthusiasm and warmth shines through. Favourites so far - Saku, Dan, forager woman whose name I’ve forgotten, Tasha, Keith.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 26/09/2023 22:18

Shine not shines

Ladybrrrd · 26/09/2023 23:46

Checking in... should ask MNHQ to change the title!

Heartbroken about Amos, loved him, but all seem lovely, and decent bakers all round! Reckon this series will be cracking!

Ellmau · 27/09/2023 00:13

I normally find Alison Hammond very irritating but she did well this week - and seemed to be a genuine fan of the show too.

I suspect The Forager may become annoying. She's going to talk about it every week, isn't she?

Netaporter · 27/09/2023 03:02

I enjoyed the episode. Not a huge AH fan, but thought she did a great job. NF seems very out of place now (but that may be because he gives me Russel Brand vibes).

Amos’ reaction to being dropped was probably the most honest one we’ve seen for years.

Are you me?

I said this almost verbatim to my daughter, who will be watching tomorrow as she was out tonight.

spiderlight · 27/09/2023 07:21

I was so glad Alison wasn't OTT and trying to steal the show. I wasn't sure about her when she was announced, but if she keeps this up she'll be perfect. I felt so sorry for Amos though. He seemed lovely.

Maireas · 27/09/2023 07:34

I think Alison is what the show needs, down to earth, genuine and engaging well with the contestants.
There seemed to be a lot of focus on Tasha - there was not much focus on Dana or some of the others, but maybe that will balance out as the series progresses.

mariaonthepier · 27/09/2023 07:37

I do like Allison but I'm still not convinced she's right for this. Bake Off for me has always been about that silly, oddball humour starting with Mel and Sue then Noel and Sandy did it brilliantly. And I also really liked Noel and Matt too. Allison is lovely I just don't think she brings that same sort of humour.

I'll reserve judgement for a while though and the cakes were all amazing, think it'll be a very impressive year.

crumblingschools · 26/09/2023 20:47

@cheshirecatssmile pity you are not watching it

I'm watching today , didn't finish work until 10pm
Mum said he did well.

Ellmau · 27/09/2023 07:43

The opening skit was poor, partly because Paul can't act AT ALL, and Noel isn't much better.

I loved the opening skit 🤣
Of course Paul can't act he's not an actor! It was exactly as a skit should be, Alison kissed a loaf of bread 🍞 😘

I was so sad to see Amos leave, but I'm always sad to see someone go in episode 1.

I'm really enjoying the vibe this year, really genuine feeling.

cheshirecatssmile · 27/09/2023 08:14

I'm watching now
My brothers cakes sounds very tasty
Yet to taste his beer but he is a fabulous cook

ZadocPDederick · 27/09/2023 13:12

I thought Amos wuz robbed, because he did pretty well in the earlier rounds and there were others who did worse than him overall. There does seem to be a tendency to make the decisions about both the Star Baker and the eliminated one solely on the basis of the final round.

I too was pleasantly surprised by Alison Hammond. I fully expected to be driven bonkers by her laugh, but she kept the whole thing low key and it worked well. I never really felt that Matt fitted the show.

GCAcademic · 27/09/2023 13:30

I enjoyed it. Glad that it seems to have had a reset and we’re back to likeable bakers from a wide age range plus warm unobtrusive presenters, rather than the uninterested, unfunny Matt and tedious Instagram-created, man-bunned contestants.

But, yes, the final round does be more heavily weighted when it comes to making the decisions.

PrincessScarlett · 27/09/2023 13:52

Alison is getting rave reviews today. I'm glad she the first show went well for her.

RichardArmitagesWife · 27/09/2023 14:17

I think she was great!

REP22 · 27/09/2023 14:20

I thought AH was good, not at all annoying. I like this year's contestants. I was sorry to see Amos go, he seemed a real sweetheart.

I think Dan is my favourite so far. He's got a great sense of humour I think. I liked Matty and Keith too. I think Abbi will go far, and Paul will be smitten with Cristy and go full-silver-fox at her.

I was prepared to miss Matt, but found that I didn't at all.

Looking forward to Extra Slice tomorrow, though I expect the mentions of Nicky's beaver will be many and grating.
