The pros who are kicked out early doors are also the ones who end up with partners on the Christmas special, Children in Need special etc etc.

Gothambutnotahamster · 10/09/2023 20:46

Thats no different to most organisations though @EsmaCannonball - those on the 'factory floor' generally earn a lot less than senior management.

Plus this isn't a normal job for the pros as they can boost their own profiles & their earnings potential is through the roof!

LaaDeeDa321 · 10/09/2023 21:15

I wonder how much they make on their tours. They all do them now

SequinsandStiIettos · 11/09/2023 04:07

Why don’t people like Gorka? He seems lovely
Believe it or not, Pissy Gorka is actually an affectionate nickname(!) coined by a blogger (Monkseal) that many of us on here used to read/follow. Those of us that still mourn him (he stopped blogging a couple of years ago) continue to use his Monksealisms (the phrase Babywarz etc). Chris used to celebrate Gorks looking moochy and sullen - whenever Gorka felt a performance was undermarked, when Kev took over from Neil cos Gorks was at Starbucks, when he was benched after Mia was due/born, when he went early doors as a Dalmatian, when he lost last year...all these events were etched on his face. I can totally understand his disappointment last year. The judges were shocked when Hamza won. He'd not had a good night. Helen's Mein Herr went down a storm.
Hamza's show dance had errors. I think many - including myself - had already voted much earlier in the show. The voting didn't reflect what was felt at the studio iirc.
Gorka has become like Gio/Kev - being a runner-up three times (Alexandra, Maisie, Helen). Always the bridesmaid.
I'd like him to win with Nikita but I have him coming second again because I am awful/schadenfreudig. I think he'll get to Halloween at least because many feel for him over last year. If he gets his guyliner on and does a Bollywood number with Nikita, he'll get my vote but so would Krishnan. I love him the most atm

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/09/2023 06:31

I’m sure Hamza was a lovely guy and everything, but until people actually mention his name, I never remember him even being on Strictly, let alone remember a single one of his dances. The least memorable winner ever - it was so disappointing last year. Hoping for a more epic year this year! I want to feel the delight I felt when Harry or Rose or Jay won, not the crushing disappointment of a Joe or Ore year 😂

SequinsandStiIettos · 11/09/2023 07:01

In fairness I will always remember his salsa, his couple's choice and his samba.
I loved his Lion King samba even though it was the opposite of party Latin. Loved it. I'd cast my 3 votes before the freestyles. His really disappointed me. I had high expectations but ended up feeling nowt.

SoIinvictus · 11/09/2023 07:44

The Ariadne blog is almost as good as Monkseal. I'd forgotten Pissy Gorka actually came from there 😂 I thought it was a Mumsnettism.
I do think Hamza was consistently good last year. Lots of his dances didn't "wow" but by heck, the ones that did, really did.

Stroopwaffels · 11/09/2023 09:10

And Hamza clearly wasn't someone with ample dance experience, unlike stage school Molly. The public want to see someone go from zero to hero. This is why Layton will be the person this series who is in loads of dance-offs and saved by the judges.

ellebelli · 11/09/2023 09:39

I actually.asked my.partner who won strictly last year as I couldn't remember..
Once he said it.was hamza I recalled two of his dances.
To be honest I just liked jowita and was glad he won for her really.
I like gorka and gorka he would have been better with layton actually, he does camp well, but can smoulder too.(but I prefer his camp!)

Lentilweaver · 11/09/2023 10:04

Didn't enjoy Hamza at all. Don't see the point in having a journey if you still end up not being very good. But I recognise I am in the minority on this. My fave dances were Helen's jive and Fleur's samba, though last year wasnt very good overall.

Wasn’t it Zara and Graz who announced they had cha cha cha on the launch show, not Bobby and Dianne? Or maybe as well as?

Yes, Graziano announced the cha cha cha. I have unhealthy thoughts about Graz, so pay more attention when he's on, hehe... I was prepared to find Zara irritating but she actually comes across as really lovely. Layton, I fear, may grate - but he's with Nikita so I will forgive him. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they have a massive falling-out at some stage along the lines of Danny John-Jules.

You are not alone, I completely agree

Nikita and Gorka waltz to 'Run to You' by Whitney. Great song

LaaDeeDa321 · 19/09/2023 12:39

I listened to Nikita and Gorka this morning on the breakfast show she does. They are great together. I suspect she isn’t great and perhaps that’s why they’ve put her with him (new baby) but I hope they actually do really well. He’s a brilliant teacher and what a lovely guy.

All About You is Amy's wedding song, Dianne was one of her bridesmaids... I am going to be in pieces 😬

cheeseisthebest · 23/09/2023 14:44

They do use the same songs year after year don't they. Yawn.

I don't think it's too bad for repeated songs this week actually. Evenly split between new songs from the last few years, 20th century songs being used for the first time and repeats.

The two things I rolled my eyes at were Annabel getting an Uptown Girl cha cha which I feel has been done a thousand times with celeb women of a certain age and build, and them waiting for twenty years to do a Don't You Want Me tango and then giving it to Les sodding Dennis

cheeseisthebest · 23/09/2023 16:17

Ha yes! Uptown girl and get the party started just made me roll my eyes.

EvilRingahBitch · 23/09/2023 16:32

Yes, Get the Party Started is definitely overused as well.

cheeseisthebest · 23/09/2023 21:42

I thought Angela Rippon was awful.
Liked Ellie best.

Stroopwaffels · 24/09/2023 08:48

I think this Strictly is definitely going to be the year of the 45+ celeb. Angela R, Annabelle, Amanda and Nigel.

Show those teenagers and 20s how it's done.
