I agree with@Stroopwaffels who has articulated exactly why I can't bear AR.

EvilRingahBitch · 29/10/2023 13:17

Here for the benefit of numbers nerds (probably just me tbh) are the Entertainment Odds and Strictly Spoiler poll results .

Both presumably biased by the fact that they're visited by the more hardcore fans/gamblers but they've been useful if not infallible in the past, and they accurately predicted tonight's result.

They agree that Ellie and Nigel are near the top and Zara and Adam near the bottom, but they vary interestingly on Bobby/Layton/Krishnan/Angela R's support.

NB that the thumbnail cuts off the top and bottom of the Strictly Spoiler poll so you'll have to click on it.

I think what plays in Annabel's favour is that there is a lot of love for Johannes and people will vote for them just because they want to see him do well. He's one of the more popular male celebs. Angela S has Carlos who appears nice enough but is still a newbie and relatively unknown. The other experienced male pros like Gorka and Gio are already out.

PantsToItAll · 29/10/2023 22:06

I’m surprised Angela R is low down in the votes on those polls! Could explain why she is scoring high with the judges as they’ll be desperate to keep her in for a big “feature” on the Blackpool week.

I'm glad Annabel seems to have a decent backing. I agree Johannes likely had a big following as he’s a great pro but I think people probably just like her also as she seems quite genuine and “classy”. Just taking it as it comes and isn’t playing on her personal life on screen (as yet). She did an interview in the papers a few weeks ago and came across very well. Discussed her husbands death and detail about how they found out and some horrible comments from insensitive nurses that I think a lot of people will have related to within their own families. I hope she stays a bit longer. She seems to be enjoying the experience.

Lentilweaver · 30/10/2023 08:16

I have been disappointed by Annabel myself. She has all the ingredients, but she doesn't bring them together on the dance floor. I haven't so far been blown away by any of her dances.

Emotionalsupportviper · 30/10/2023 08:25

Stroopwaffels · 29/10/2023 12:42

I don't dislike her because she is old. I dislike her because she is clearly a favourite with the judges and in their eyes can do no wrong. I dislike her twee little "knickers" when things goes wrong as if she's swearing like a docker. I dislike that she has loads of dance experience. I dislike that she has been given preferential treatment by the producers by getting to week 6 and avoiding samba/jive/salsa etc.

And I don't like Kai's teeth.

What's the betting her language would make a docker blush when the cameras aren't on her? Grin

Choux · 30/10/2023 08:46

She did an interview in the papers a few weeks ago and came across very well. Discussed her husbands death and detail about how they found out and some horrible comments from insensitive nurses that I think a lot of people will have related to within their own families.

I read an article about what she said about the nurse and I don't think she came across well at all. She said the nurse was a psychopath and mocked her son. It appeared to be in the final days of what was a very short but terminal illness for her husband and I can imagine that it was very hard for the family to get their head around the fact he was dying but the nurse seemed to be conveying factual information. They way it's written the nurse seemed to be blunt but then if you call a nurse a psychopath you can't then be nice about how they say things.

To me Annabel - in the interview I read - came across as a woman who had spent her life being dependent on her husband to deal with life's stresses. When he was diagnosed and so swiftly declined she was unable to deal with the situation and face reality and so took offence at a nurse giving Mel factual information about his condition and wanted the nurse to discuss with her what he was told. She also said the dr who delivered the diagnosis was too blunt. Obviously I wasn't there and we only heard one side of the story but I don't think it painted her very well to say 'not only did my husband pass away but the drs and nurses were dreadfully blunt about it'. Interestingly she doesn't say she complained to anyone.

I wonder if she is needing someone to blame / hate for the situation she is in and is focusing on the drs and nurses actions. Anyway this is the spoiler thread so apologies for the derail.

Stroopwaffels · 31/10/2023 17:00

And nauseating Angela has ANOTHER slow dance this week with a waltz. But she's definitely not getting special treatment, no sirree. 🙄

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/10/2023 17:15

I wonder if it's at her own request @Stroopwaffels ? I'd be interested to know

1 cha cha - 4th - 28 - Latin
2 foxtrot - second to last - 31 - Ballroom
3 QS - second/death slot - 26 - Ballroom
4 rumba - second to last - 31 - Latin
5 AT- last/pimp slot - 34 - Speciality
6 charleston - fourth from last - 33 - Speciality
7 waltz - Ballroom -
8
9 Blackpool - AS?

On paper, Angela has done 2 Latin, 2 Speciality and 3 Ballroom
In avoiding jive, samba (Latin) and salsa (speciality) Kai/producers have made it easier for her to reach Blackpool.
Depends if producers are saving an AS for that or not: a paso next week could see her at the bottom of the leaderboard and I'm not sure what her couple's choice could be.

I bet they’d all love to be able to request not to do certain dances but they aren’t afforded that privilege are they?

EvilRingahBitch · 31/10/2023 22:48

The obvious missing pick for Angela R would be VW, but presumably waltz followed by VW would be a step too far, so I assume she's got some kind of musical theatre CC for week 8.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the dance picks though. Angela S is probably regretting not getting Samba out of the way much earlier in the competition. Angela R will be toast the moment she does fast Latin at this stage, whereas she might well have got away with a very slow but smiley and pointy-toed Jive in week 2/3.

The pros do have a fair amount of choice in their celebrity's dances AFAIK, but there's some producer pressure for scheduling as well. Finalists mostly end up skipping the dances that weren't going to suit them - everyone skips at least two of the fifteen after all.

Really interesting analysis. I was expecting Blackpool to be a Morecambe and Wise throwback CC and that was why they were so keen to get her there.

Perhaps the AS will be the week before Blackpool.

Choux · 04/11/2023 23:16

According to the Strictly spoiler site Annabel got a 10% boost in the vote this week compared to last week. She is second after Ellie in their poll.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 04/11/2023 23:18

Oh Choux I thought you had it, I just checked

Sorry. But if the public vote matches the spoiler poll it will be Angela R v Adam. It will be interesting to see how the judges try to save Angela for Blackpool as Shirley have Adam a higher score and Anton scored them the same.

They'll just say that she did better in the DO.

I want to go to bed damnit

So do I!

I wonder if there's been a shock element in this week's DO?

I remember when Ashley Roberts was first in the DO, the Spoiler didn't come out till the morning.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 04/11/2023 23:34

They've got til 1am!

OP posts:
Choux · 04/11/2023 23:39

Dave Thorp who publishes the spoiler says 'No mole and not sure Juliet does either. I do have my other source and have made contact with them but that will be in the morning if we have to rely on them.'

So no guarantee of a result tonight.

Is a mole a member of the public who contacts him to say they are going to the show? Presumably to help keep his contact secret as that person is on the Strictly crew.

I might get ready for bed then check one last time.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 04/11/2023 23:42

Right. Bed for me then.

OP posts:
TattiePants · 04/11/2023 23:49

In that case it’s bed for me too.

LilacpointMummy · 05/11/2023 08:23

Anyone found anything yet this morning??
