Pity about the ringer but at least everyone will know the other three. Looking forward to this.

I have seen Leyton as Angel in rent. He dances better in high heels better than most women I know!! He was doing backflips off a podium at one point.

I do not believe he should be in Strictly

Maybe we need a new Strictly like we do with Masterchef. Strictly:The Professionals. So all the ringers can go in that one instead. It's pointless watching a journey that doesn't journey and just stays at the same level

The thing is, the public get bored with the ones who don't improve - but if they're in a dance off, always get saved by the judges 🫠

Lentilweaver · 06/08/2023 13:21

I would definitely watch Strictly The Ringers!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/08/2023 13:26

The thing that annoys me is that often their ballroom or Latin technique isn't that good. But because they can make the dance as a whole look good they still get marked higher than people who are dancing basic steps nicely, staying in time, using the right parts of the foot but don't have the same presentation skills.

TennisWithDeborah · 06/08/2023 14:26

I really like Amanda, she’s talented and candid.

It is so good to be thinking about Angela again - haven’t seen her for years.

Krishnan is another strong pick. Popular and will work hard.

I hadn’t heard of Leyton but it seems like he’ll be a talented, lively performer.

A great start! Yay!

Looking forward to seeing who they’ve hired from the world of sport. I watch a lot of sport and usually know the celebs.

I’m excited about the concept of a wheelchair user. That will be very interesting and I hope it comes off. Tanni would be my choice because I’m a fan, but there have been no rumours to that effect.

Twonewcats · 06/08/2023 14:57

Jonathan Goodwin a possibility?

EsmaCannonball · 06/08/2023 15:02

Did anyone watch the repeats of Come Dancing from the 1970's that were shown on BBC4 earlier this year? They've ruined Strictly for me. My plan to rescue the show is:

  • Replace Jason Gilkison as creative director with Frank and Peggy Spencer
  • Replace Tess with a hologram of Terry Wogan
  • Replace Claudia and her interviews with a commentary over the dances. 'When Krishnan isn't dancing you can find him on the golf course or taking lessons in Belgian lace-making.'
  • Replace Vicky Gill with the contestants' mums. 'Amanda is wearing tangerine satin and cerise tulle and, she tells me, it took her mother four weeks to sew on all 25 000 sequins.'
  • Replace the judges with Sybil Marks and Ada Unsworth and a random teenage beauty queen or trampolinist. (Don't ask.)
  • Couple's Choice is, 'You're doing the Military Two-Step. Now, fuck off!'
  • All pro routines to be formation dancing.
  • The weekly musical artiste to be replaced by a pro couple demo dance half filmed in a council leisure centre car park. (Don't ask.)
  • All female costumes to be highly flammable and a minimum of 7ft wide. All male costumes to be the catsuit-tuxedo.
  • The audience is to be allowed to drink and smoke and then get up at the end and have a dance.

The viewing figures will rocket.

Maireas · 06/08/2023 15:04

Happy days, @EsmaCannonball , happy days.
Any kind of replacement for Winkleman would be an improvement. A hologram of Robert Robinson would do.
No more contempowaft. Shoes compulsory throughout.
Everyone gets the bus home.

CaveMum · 06/08/2023 15:08

Love it @EsmaCannonball. Don’t forget to add in a random hobby/slightly disturbing pastime during the commentary. I think the ickiest/weirdest one I heard while watching the reruns was the bloke who described himself as “a Page 3 connoisseur” 🤮

Maireas · 06/08/2023 15:09

🤮

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 06/08/2023 15:22

I would love couples choice to be scrapped. I don't think it adds anything and is much harder for anyone to judge.

The pro dances seem to be less and less Latin and Ballroom and are now just general dancing. Amazing, but not what I want to see.

I would love a week where they all have to do a dance with only basic steps, all on the floor at the same time - like a regular competition.

Maireas · 06/08/2023 15:25

Couple's Choice is also impossible to mark down because inevitably it's some sort of tear jerking life event told through the medium of dance, and if you mark it down then you're a heartless bastard.

I agree re couples choice. If the producers want a street dance, then that should bea category on its own, and they should have a guest expert judge to score those dances, if that makes sense.

I'd like all the couples to do a formation dance together

The Offbeat troupe who gave their average age, dimensions and combined weight was also a choice...

MavisMcMinty · 06/08/2023 15:30

I’d like to see Bhangra Week instead of musicals week, which is really just Movies Week Part Deux.

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 06/08/2023 15:53

I would like it to be a bit more serious. It’s a ballroom/whatever dance contest. I’m not interested in anyone’s dead granny, or council estate upbringing, or lack of dance training. I’m interested in…..

1 - a very very short intro (please, none of that weird ‘acting’),

2 - a three minute dance with no props unless it’s prop week,

3 - not much dry ice, I want to see legs and feet,

4 - minimal training videos, all that could be covered in ITT, and if they do show some, make sure it’s not the same footage,

5 - I don’t like all the theme weeks. I do actually like the armed forces ones they have had, but Halloween is too much and takes away from the magic of the dances,

6 - I like the judges to be a bit less silly. Cynthia Erivo was (for me) a breath of fresh air. She made all the other judges look like silly teenagers. I loved her style and really hope she gets a chance to judge again.

7 - now I’m on a roll, I also love the style of group dance where everyone is dressed differently and doing their own dance, instead of everyone doing the same. I don’t know if there’s a name for that style? Like for example there was a group dance set in a bar with a story going on between the two main dancers, some of the others were his friends and some were hers, and others were bystanders. Lovely stuff.

See, I like Halloween week, it always feels like the first weekend of cosying up to watch TV

Uppersop · 06/08/2023 16:09

Year after year, my complaint is the same - show their bloody feet when they’re dancing! Too often the camera shows the dancers from the knees up just as they’re doing a crowd pleasing step (couldn’t resist the Strictly Ballroom reference there!), or cuts away to another angle at exactly the wrong moment. Fine for the studio audience and judges, but not so great for us at home.

Maybe I picked on Halloween slightly unfairly - it’s the theme after theme after theme I don’t like. Can’t the theme be ‘dance’ one week?!

I seem to remember in the past on the iPlayer you could get the footage filmed by the cameramen PLUS footage from a fixed camera to see how they moved across the room, does anyone remember that?

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 06/08/2023 16:46

They need the clips to clear the floor / set up. But if they got rid of the pointless props (usually there to reduce dancing content needed) they wouldn't need as much time!!

When the dancing time is so short it is a waste that half is in the "story" set up.

Eddie Kadi has been announced from BBC 1Xtra

My first who??? Of the line up so far. Off to google

EvilRingahBitch · 06/08/2023 19:25

Yes he was a definite
¯\(ツ)
from me too, but I'm hardly the target market for a 1Extra Afrobeat DJ. That's the art of Strictly casting - you get a big enough range that almost everyone will see a couple of names that intrigue them, and then over the course of several weeks they'll come to love the people they originally said "who????" about.

I absolutely couldn't have picked Alesha, Jay, Hamza or Harry out of a lineup before their series started.
