Probably my mum watching Crossroads.

PerspiringElizabeth · 12/07/2023 19:28

Sitting on my grandma’s lap watching Eastenders when I couldn’t sleep while staying over there every week.

Watching Playdays and then the lunchtime showing of Neighbours with my mum.

Both as a preschooler. Aw. I never watch soaps now!

elliejjtiny · 12/07/2023 19:30

Scott and Charlene's wedding
Sonia going out with Jamie
Sarah having baby Bethany

Richard (I think?) attempting to kill the Platts on coronation street I think, never watch soaps now but my grandmother did

LooseInTheCity · 12/07/2023 19:31

My Gran watching Deidre and Ken and Bet Lynch and Ivy & Vera on Corrie in the early 80s.

She loved the soaps. I remember wondering what she found interesting about the boring one about old people working on a farm (Emmerdale Farm, as it was then).

She also watched Crossroads (I only really remember Benny), Take The High Road (Scottish soap) and loads of the old Aussie ones - Sons & Daughters, Young Doctors, A Country Practice, The Sullivans.

I watched the first ever Eastenders in the 80s and still watch it now. I thought Sharon was so cool Grin.

The person buried under the patio in brookside

Eastenders - Sonia having a baby on the sofa

elliejjtiny · 12/07/2023 19:32

I remember having tonsilitus a lot when I was about 7-9 and being allowed to eat Heinz tomato soup on the sofa while watching neighbours at lunchtime. The ultimate treat.

LemonLimeDivine · 12/07/2023 19:32

In the 80s / 90s I think as my mum used to watch them:
Corrie - the Rovers return fire.
Emmerdale - plane crash

jay55 · 12/07/2023 19:33

Early eastenders Den and Ange, Mary the punk. Colin and his underage boyfriend.

cpphelp · 12/07/2023 19:33

Ah yes! Also Sonia having no idea she was pregnant until birth, and Sarah platt being pregnant

User10486743 · 12/07/2023 19:34

I used to like Crossroads and watched that a lot. I watched Eastenders since the start

pilates · 12/07/2023 19:35

I loved Eastenders - can’t watch it now!

TheCrystalPalace · 12/07/2023 19:39

The fire in the block of flats when Ken Barlow's first wife Val died. I was very young at the time and I remember my dad ushering me out of the room to go to bed.

PerspiringElizabeth · 12/07/2023 19:40

For a bit as a tween I was planning on naming my future DD Leticia after Leticia Dean 😄

anniepanniepears123 · 12/07/2023 19:44

Being frightened from
Ena Sharples after seeing her wearing a hairnet on Coronation Street

WimbledonPimms · 12/07/2023 19:45

Parents never watched uk soaps but mum did watch Dallas so it'd be JR getting shot and later Bobby reappearing in the shower 😂

RampantIvy · 12/07/2023 19:48

We didn't have a TV unil I was in my last year of primary school, and when we did get one no-one watched any soaps.

I remember going to stay with a relative when I was about 7, and she used to watch Coronation Street. I remember seeing Ena Sharples with her famous hair net.

KatRee · 12/07/2023 19:50

Corrie-Massive argument between Ken and Deidre- think she'd caught him having an affair?
Eastenders - Eddie Royale getting murdered - I think Dot's dog found the body on the square?

mintich · 12/07/2023 19:51

Someone getting stabbed in the back of a car in Brookside, maybe Barry Grant was there? Oh and the Damon and Debbie spin off

VioletCharlotte · 12/07/2023 20:00

I remember being fascinated by Bet Lynch in Corrie with her beehive hair and her leopard print clothes!

I saw the first episode of Eastenders - showing my age now!

Marsyas · 12/07/2023 20:02

My very earliest memory is of someone leaving a baby in a pram outside a pub on Corrie and she was snatched by someone. Looking it up now it was Tracy Barlow in the pram, Deirdre left her there, and the pub was smashed into by a lorry, she thought Tracey was dead but she had been snatched already. It was 1979 so I was four watching this. I don’t remember the lorry part at all, just the pram and the being taken!

After that I remember “who shot JR” in Dallas, which I am shocked to find was 1980, so I was five. Highly inappropriate viewing! Stronger memories of “it was all a dream” return of Bobby, the wedding massacre in Dynasty, and the alien abduction in The Colbys , but I think by then I was 10-12.

I saw the first ever episode of Neighbours, and the first ever episode of Eastenders. We were very much a soaps family.

amylou8 · 12/07/2023 20:02

I remember casualty starting in 86, so I'd have been 10, and it being decided it was unsuitable after a few episodes and being proper pissed off about being sent to bed.

saveforthat · 12/07/2023 20:03

Crossroads in the 1960s. When they put their Christmas tree, I started to get excited for Christmas.

Barton10 · 12/07/2023 20:04

I remember the first episode of Eastenders and the Mike Deidre and Ken affair storyline. I stopped watching soaps around 20 years ago as they are too depressing.
