OP posts:
NooNakedJacuzziness · 13/07/2023 21:22

Sue-Ellen being drunk and "an unfit mother" and J.R threatening her with the sanatarium

TidyDancer · 13/07/2023 21:29

The Emmerdale plane crash was the first big storyline I remember clearly. I would've been 10.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/07/2023 21:32

The Archers theme tune. Dad used to record the omnibus for Mummy while we were at church, so it was the soundtrack of Sunday lunchtime.

AutieNOT0tie · 13/07/2023 22:10

Scott and Charlene getting married
Sophie getting pregnant to Guy Pearces character in home and away
Michelle getting pregnant to Den in east Enders
Gail and Martin getting married on Corrie

Lucy Robinson (the first actress) in Neighbours running away, being found down some hole in the ground and being temporarily blind.

A perennial Neighbours storyline.

Character down well/fallen off ladder - end of episode

Next episode:

"They may never see/walk again" episode end

Next episode:

Against the odds feeling comes back in legs/blurry vision regained - episode ends

Next week 20/20 vision, running a triathlon; accident long forgotten

Crown Court, oh my goodness am hearing the music now!

Back21970 · 13/07/2023 22:46

Probably the Ken, Deirdre and Mike Baldwin triangle - Ken had an uncle Albert and he overheard arguing when the affair came out and was upset.

OMG, need to Google when that was, very early 80’s maybe 😊

OldTinHat · 13/07/2023 23:19

Dancing in my highchair to the theme tune to The Archers apparently.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 13/07/2023 23:21

Ena Sharples, Martha Longhurst and Minnie Caldwell drinking milk stout in the snug at the Rovers. 😂

Crown Court, oh my goodness am hearing the music now!

Crown Court is being repeated on Talking Pictures TV on freeview. Lots of fabulous seventies make up, hairstyles and fashion!

stayathomer · 14/07/2023 05:20

Watching neighbours on holidays- Helen daniels, Jim, Harold, Madge, Paul. Also another one is my dad saying he can’t believe people watch people being miserable in eastenders for fun but I need to google when eastenders even first came out

stayathomer · 14/07/2023 05:20

Oh and Mrs mangle and bouncer!!!

Jujubes5 · 14/07/2023 05:33

Coronation Street- Elsie Tanner, Ena Sharples, Annie Walker - such great characters and actors.
Dennis, Elsie’s troublemaker son,
Concepta Hewitt - did she die by being run over by Len Fairclough’s van?

FrivolousTreeDuck · 14/07/2023 05:39

The Ken/Deirdre/Mike Barlow love-triangle in Coronation Street. Also 'Who Shot JR' in Dallas - we didn't watch Dallas but everyone was talking about it, it was as 'viral' as a thing could get in pre-internet days!

ManyDogs · 14/07/2023 06:47

Does anyone remember Family Affairs, the channel 5 soap? I watched it religiously and vaguely remember it ending with basically every single cast member getting blown up in a boat explosion?

NerrSnerr · 14/07/2023 07:49

Des and Daphne in Neighbours.

Curly and Raquel in Corrie

Sonia on her trumpet!

NerrSnerr · 14/07/2023 07:50

Oh and incest in Brookside!!

The plans crash in Emmerdale farm (or Emmeroids as my mum called it!!)

Clawdy · 14/07/2023 08:15

Watching the first few Coronation Street episodes, and my mum's delight at hearing northern accents on the television! Bit of a novelty then.

megletthesecond · 14/07/2023 08:18

Den and Dr Legg breaking into that old chaps house to find him dead. Ie; the first Eastenders.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 14/07/2023 08:48

My dad yelling 'turn it off' every time the coronation music started... so never saw it until I left home. I remember Toyah and Spider getting together.

Benny from Crossroads, being depicted as "a bit slow" which would not be acceptable nowadays.

Plane crash on Emmerdale.

These are making me feel so old, I remember when it was Emmerdale Farm and the actress who played Dolly changing.

My mum was a corrie fan, I remember one character had a garage and was advertising for a mechanic, only one person applied and it was a woman, and he couldn't turn her down as the Sex Discrimination Act had just come in.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 15/07/2023 14:03

I'm officially an old woman so I remember seeing Coronation Street in B&W with Elsie Tanner and Ena Sharples having a ding dong in the street.

Haughty Annie Walker looking down on Hilda Ogden but graciously letting her get away with some minor mistake as it gave HO a reason to feel good.

I don't watch any of the soaps these days.

I'm still traumatised by my first episode of Casualty! I didn't have a TV growing up so had never seen anything like it. I went to a friends house for her bonfire night party and after the fireworks everyone sat down to watch Casualty. This particular episode had a caravan roll down a hill with the people inside getting tossed around like rag dolls and ending up pretty bloody! I found it horrifying! And also alarming that my friends little brother who must have been 3 years younger than us was completely unbothered by it.

If anyone knows the episode I'm talking about please let me know!! I've tried to find it so I can re-watch it as an adult and be reassured by the terrible acting and obvious tomato ketchup! All I know is that it aired around bonfire night somewhere between 1996-2001 - not a lot to go on!

Looks like it might be Series 11, Ep.9
