We love the Australian Survivor, and am so excited to see the UK one is coming back.

Presented by Joel Dommet, on BBC so no adverts. Dom Republic.

Looking forward to it!

That sounds like quite a Tribal Council!
I'd love to watch the US Survivor, it's so annoying that it's not available to stream in the UK.

happinessischocolate · 20/12/2023 17:14

So out of the final lot, including the jury who do you wish had won.

For me it's Doug or Tinuke.

They were both very clever but unfortunately trusted the wrong people/person.

Or Chris. He was robbed 😁

I saw a clip from one of the American shows which was labelled as an iconic moment.

The presenter said if you have an idol now is the time to play it. So one guy played his idol, but he also had another one which he played for someone else. Then another contestant said they had an idol. Then another. And another.

It ended up there was only one person without an idol so they left!

I'd love to see that clip, do you have a link?

Amazon Prime currently only seems to have series 9 of Survivor Australia - it used to have more series on there. UKTV Play app seems to have at least 1 series of Survivor South Africa. Lots of bits of the USA one on YouTube.

With regard to the UK one, I wouldn't have minded Chris, Doug, Pegleg having the money. Laurence winning would have been quite funny as he is loaded already and doesn't need the money! If you look at his IG he is currently going to impossibly posh Christmas parties!

AbondonedThemePark · 20/12/2023 17:57

The clip is on youtube somwhere, I didn't save it. It was called iconic survivor moment or similar.

AbondonedThemePark · 20/12/2023 18:01

My Prime has got seasons 3 -10 of Survivor Australia, 3 being the first series of the reboot.

Since when? I've been watching series 4 all week!!

TheMadGardener · 20/12/2023 18:37

My bad, for some reason I could only see one series on Prime, I can see the others again now.

ilovesushi · 22/12/2023 14:25

Have just started watching series 9 of Australian Survivor on prime and OMG it is good! Watching with DD. Loving it. We are only 2 episodes in but Chrissy is our favourite, not necessarily to win but just because we've warmed to her massively. She is so normal and relatable, and shows every emotion on her face. Can already see they are next level in terms of strategy and 'social play'.

In the "community" season 9 is considered one of the weaker ones! My favourite is Brains vs Brawn and Heroes vs Villians as I love George!

I also really enjoyed Blood vs Water which is the season you're watching. Aussie Survivor is perfect escapism for us, enjoy!!

Twazique · 22/12/2023 19:40

I also love George, also Jordie!

Princessfluffy · 23/12/2023 12:00

Ahh yes King George!!! Apparently he is now playing professional poker.

Love Jordan too although I didn't to start with.

ruby2019missyou · 23/12/2023 17:33

I've seen all the OZ series on Prime and one of the 2 SA series on UKTV Play. What am I going to watch after that?? 😥

@ruby2019missyou Season 1 of NZ on YouTube 🤗

ruby2019missyou · 23/12/2023 20:48

@HundredMilesAnHour Really? Thank you!

Asiatoyork · 24/12/2023 14:15

The UK producers of these shows obviously don't look for that in contestants

I think that’s right because I think UK people are more likely to find them annoying. That said, I have now just caught up with the final after being on holiday. Meh. I didn’t really want any of them to win that much.

Yes, you're likely right, and I find that really interesting in itself.

Also how personally the people on the jury took things which influenced their voting.

It was similar in Traitors, the end result was the blandest people won because one guy couldn't bear to have been played so he vindictively outed the remaining traitor just out of spite.

Is this really how UK people think generally, or is it down to the producers choice of contestants.

Maybe it's the flip side of most British people finding those who show they really want to win annoying and in need of bringing down a peg.

Hence blandness wins in shows like this.

Finally got to the end this week.
As a big Oz Survivors fan I wanted Chris to win, but I think probably Matty was the one new viewers would feel deserved it more. I'm really hoping that future series will lead to a better appreciation of game play. Imho Chris had a better resume and actually won challenges.

When I first started watching Survivor I couldn't work out why the nicest person didn't win. When I finally got the gameplay element that was when it all made sense.

There were too many early tribal councils where there was little set up for any alliances and as a viewer it lacked any tension.
Compared to some of the King George number discussions it was all very tame. We were some way into the jury before these became interesting.

I know someone who got quite far into selection and was able to spot who got "their place.' They reported that a lot of auditionees had never seen the show before.

Hopefully as time goes on contestants will be more strategic and play the game in a more rounded way. Otherwise it will be very dull indeed.

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/12/2023 12:36

For anyone who has Netflix, if you use a USA VPN there are currently 2 old seasons of US Survivor on Netflix. Both good seasons. The gameplay and blindsiding is a different league to what we just saw on the UK series. 😂

That assumes it gets recommissioned.

It apparently had a huge budget but bombed with live viewing figures.

But it had a terrible slot on a Saturday after strictly. I think it was 9pm fairly regularly. Who was going to watch it then? Surely it is family viewing. If it's not, then who is it for?

The whole thing with the first series of the Australian series was Kristie and many of the other contestants talking about how they had watched the show as children. Kristie talked about her 8 year old self.

I hope the iPlayer figures are considerably better - it is one of the top promoted shows on there still.

I can't help but feel that the cultural British politeness thing has got in the way - and is part of BBC casting.

What's interesting is we've had Shipwrecked here instead of Survivor which was altogether more collaborative and about building relationships rather than voting off people.

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/12/2023 10:04

@RedToothBrush totally agree.
I assumed Survivor would find its feet on bbc2 similar to Traitors.
Saturday night was a ridiculous scheduling but I expect they thought they'd invested so much money it had to be prime time.
They are calling for contestants ahead of confirmation.

That was it, and she had been inspired, and had wanted to be on Survivor for a long time. I found that aspect, really playing the long game!, very interesting. And the talk of spending a lot of time resilience training in anticipation of the show.

ruby2019missyou · 01/01/2024 14:54

Just binged the 1st NZ series. There are bits and bobs of other series but none complete AFAIKS.

MsMcGonagall · 04/01/2024 13:33

9pm on a Saturday straight after Strictly is the dream scheduling slot, surely?

ilovesushi · 19/01/2024 22:32

I won't give away any spoilers but just finished Blood v Water. Absolutely loved it. Some great game play. Cannot believe this one is considered a weaker series! The editing did bug me a bit when they used fake reaction shots from completely different contexts and sometimes you realised you'd not been shown a whole massive alliance which suddenly shone a different light on things. Going to find it hard to invest so heavily in anything else for a bit. Just started UK Traitors series 2. We picked out the traitors before Claude even picked them. Getting too good at this!
