We love the Australian Survivor, and am so excited to see the UK one is coming back.

Presented by Joel Dommet, on BBC so no adverts. Dom Republic.

Looking forward to it!

I've just reread this thread from the start. Quite funny/interesting once you know the results.

Chris was an arse but by the end he'd won my respect for winning so many challenges and genuinely managing to survive. At the time I don't think you'd acknowledge that as much because you only see the immediate.

I have remained consistent in my opinion of Lee being a total arsehole.

Pancakeorcrepe · 17/12/2023 10:45

Such a shame about Chris, he deserved to be a winner! He won so many challenges. I noticed he was quite bullied by Hannah and Leilani in the last episodes, Leilani telling him he smells and other nasty comments, Hannah calling him annoying.
Leilani really is deluded if she thinks she was there because she deserved, she really coasted along. Not won any challenges, always having big dramatic scened and bigging up how well she did in challenges when she didn’t do well at all. I can’t believe she actually thought she could win.
Lee is such a big liar! He was caught on camera many times speaking about an all male alliance. He is such a bully. This could have cost Christopher some votes in the final if the jury mistakenly believed Lee instead of Christopher.

martinisforeveryone · 17/12/2023 11:02

Agreed @Pancakeorcrepe

I didn't like Chris at all, but you had to respect him in the end and given the options left, he should have won I think.

ILookAtTheFloor · 17/12/2023 11:10

Digesting the end of the series, DH and I love the Aussie version and so we were yelling at the screen regularly with frustration at this!

As others have said, the jury was way too personal. Had no one actually watched an episode of Survivor before? Only Lawrence got it, voting Chris who was clearly the deserving winner, while also mentioning Leilani's goat status - which she definitely was. Absolutely no game whatsoever.

Thank god they realised that Pegleg was such a threat and got rid of him. Some actual strategic thinking, very late in the day.

Lack of proper play with idols. Again, they didn't seem to understand how to use them effectively. There weren't many opportunities to use them and Nathan's use of his was weak. He could've done so much more eg keep it a secret or told people and bluffed he was going to use it, they vote elsewhere and not use it etc etc.

I doubt it will be recommissioned but it if is it may improve as viewers go on to play and be more strategic generally. I found the Aus Traitors was much more cut throat as the players had clearly watched Survivor and used the same strategies. If you think back to our Traitors, anyone with any game whatsoever was pretty much out immediately with the exception of Wilf and then weak game players ultimately won. I'll be interested to see if our new series of Traitors attracts more strategic play.

Over all I did enjoy UK Survivor but it generally felt much smaller than the Aus version.

Actually thinking about, the only reason Matty turned on his alliance was because Chris very cleverly got in his head.

Chris made him think that Tinuke and Nathan would vote him out at the end but they wouldn't as it's final 3 not 2

They gave 100k to a guy who couldn't even take an immunity idol and put a padlock on properly.

Did he even win 1 challenge?

Chris was robbed.

HalleLouja · 17/12/2023 18:34

Chris was amazing in the challenges, but he messed up by pissing too many jury members off. So in that way he didn’t play a great game.

Matty and that padlock. Doh!!!

MyOtherNameToday · 17/12/2023 18:37

Chris deserved it the rest were rubbish. Such a disappointment 😞

Mattie is astonishingly stupid but basically won because he was able to blend in with the background. He thinks he won because he's some kind of criminal mastermind 😂 No lovie, you were just more bland than everyone around you- and trust me, you had stiff competition!

herewegoroundtheblueberrybush · 18/12/2023 07:36

The jury were on the whole very immature, with some exceptions (Laurence, Peg, maybe Hannah). The look on Tinuke's face throughout her time on the jury, wow. She has really cast herself as the main character in her own life and the show.

Chris should have won and I liked him from the start. His slight error was helping out Matty. Leilani bless her completely oblivious to not being liked, and giving a very poorly pitched speech at the end I could hardly believe my ears!

HalleLouja · 18/12/2023 08:24

Laurence did hit the nail on the head with his goat comment. Also, Leilani seemed to conveniently forget she did get voted out and was lucky that she involved in the twist.

To be fair to Nathan, he did seem to realise it was a game and voted for Matty to win.

I hope they do another series, but will watch some Australian Survivor to see how they play it.

ilovesushi · 18/12/2023 09:22

We came late to this series and had never seen other versions, so interesting to read here about more tactical play in the Australian one. There seemed to be a real flaw in the game design as the strong players got voted out early and those that flew under the radar stayed in the game. Matty was about the most unworthy winner you could get. Rubbish in the challenges, insanely gullible, ridiculously easily swayed by the last person to speak to him.

I didn't warm to Chris but in the end I was rooting for him (and Leilani - amazing in last challenge) out of admiration for his success in the challenges and his non stop strategising. Without him the show would have felt quite flat - just people milling around on a beach occasionally doing some painful challenges. I had a soft spot for Leilani so would have liked to see her win too. Favourite was Tinuke. She would have been a worthy finalist. Lee was just awful. Seemed to have a lot of rage and what a barefaced liar possibly costing Chris his win.

We kept saying to each other, did the jury watch the show once they were out because they didn't seem to take anything beyond their own experience into account.

romeosierraoscar · 18/12/2023 10:59

I wondered about what the jury knew - I assumed that they didn't see anything that went one other than at tribal council. They couldn't watch any of the show as it wasn't made yet - would have just been hours of footage at that point. I suspect there was a lot more to the pre vote chat / questions that wasn't shown so they got more of a flavour of what had been going on.

Doingmybest12 · 18/12/2023 11:08

I'd forgotten about Lelani being voted out earlier. I was interested to see Ashley voted for Chris in the end . I didn't like Matty's speech about purposefully letting them all think he was young and not clued on at the start. I thought he gave them good reason to turn against him at the end. I thought Chris gave a good account of himself and should've won as he definitely played the game well although earlier on I wanted him to be voted out.

😂😂😂 brilliant

It would be very interesting to see a reunion or Goggle Box show where we could all see their reactions after watching the series and see if they maintained their opinion

evtheria · 18/12/2023 19:11

Really disappointed, I feel some people could not look past being played to how well Chris played. Matty's lovely but Chris was the best survivor.

Same here. Marty didn’t deserve the win. It was a disappointing final.

Dontjudgeme101 · 19/12/2023 13:57

Sorry Matty

TheMadGardener · 19/12/2023 14:09

Chris was the most deserving winner. Matty just won for being bland and offending fewer people.

Glad Leilani didn't win, loved the "are you a goat?" question. I also thought Doug was quite insightful asking if Matty had flipped on his alliance because Chris had got in his head - and, of course, Chris did...

I hope the Lee defenders on the jury cringed when they watched the actual show and realised he was completely lying, that he HAD said (several times) that he wanted an all-male alliance and that Chris was quite right about that!

Twazique · 19/12/2023 18:56

I would like follow up interviews after the dust had settled and the jury had seen the series.

Princessfluffy · 19/12/2023 19:32

This was definitely Survivor Lite compared to the Australian version, which I think is some of the best TV ever.

Really disappointing. It did seem as though the contestants had never seen the show and had no idea that strategy was a possibility. Also why was idol hunting and playing not really a thing?

HalleLouja · 19/12/2023 19:37

Just one thing with Australian Survivor. It looked like there were no subtitles and I was struggling to hear with all the background music in the first few minutes. Does the background music die down?

ilovesushi · 19/12/2023 22:11

Where are you all watching Australian Survivor and what season do you recommend I start with? Most recent? Also are we all going to move over to a Traitors thread when it starts?

AbondonedThemePark · 19/12/2023 22:19

Amazon Prime has the Oz ones.

I saw a clip from one of the American shows which was labelled as an iconic moment.

The presenter said if you have an idol now is the time to play it. So one guy played his idol, but he also had another one which he played for someone else. Then another contestant said they had an idol. Then another. And another.

It ended up there was only one person without an idol so they left!
