It was awful. I'm shocked that they kept Patricia.
None of them are very good tbh. More like hobbyists than professionals.

Me too. Really bad attitude and so whiny. Her 'design' looked like it had been knocked up by a kindergarten class.

LadyEloise1 · 13/05/2023 10:32

I thought it was awful also.
The bar was good.
I understood what John was doing re the gallery too.
But Patrycja should have gone again imo.
I like comfy seating whether in a bar or a cafe.
The seating looked particularly uncomfortable.
I thought the art work going up the stairs was ghastly.
To be fair it was a ridiculous challenge giving them certain areas to work on.
They should have been given the brief and then the contestants sat down together and work out a cohesive plan playing to all the their particular strengths.

It was all awful. The other design shows I watch have much better calibre of contestants. Couldn't stand the attitude of Patricia. The whole style was awful the only thing I liked was the bar but those half tables hung have been done to death.

martinisforeveryone · 13/05/2023 11:48

It should've been one of those shock weeks when two were eliminated. The show would've lost nothing.

Like Justine, Patrycja is a one trick pony and what all of them are demonstrating is that they're going to roll out what they want to do without any consideration of fitting a brief or pleasing a client.

I'll still keep watching though to see if there's any improvement, or if not, to shout at the TV 😁

SoupDragon · 13/05/2023 19:53

I've been watching this on Catch Up and am finally caught up.

I'm glad Justine has gone. She was rubbish as a designer. Exactly the same room each week and then that bench that you couldn't sit comfortably on (which she argued about!). No idea what went on between her and Patrycja.

This episode was an absolutely shocker. Only John's bar area looked good really and there was zero team work or collaboration with the design.

John is my pick for winner as he seems to do the least cocking up!

SoupDragon · 13/05/2023 19:57

Jamie's bar area! .Not John.

I liked John's notice board, which I thought fitted in with the bar, but not his gallery.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2023 19:58

And Jamie is my pick for winner, not John. FFS

MedievalMadness · 14/05/2023 06:09

That was a complete mess. Just beyond rubbish. They seem a pretty talentless bunch with no original ideas. It’s like they’ve all been compulsively putting together Pinterest boards and scrolling through YouTube interior design videos and then cobbling something together which reflects the looks they like, or rather, someone else has put on Pinterest. If Justine was designing sets for CBeebies she might have more success, but the benches this week were stupidly bad and the cushions she made didn’t fit and were a mess. I’m invested in finding out who wins now but they’re all pretty crap. Jamie is the best imo. Liked his bathroom.

What are the developers meant to do with the rejected apartments? Presumably they have to redecorate them all.

I wondered that too.

They'll probably have to paint over it all which is a shame because the exposed brick was probably meant to be part of the appeal of that type of building.

JackRosenberg · 14/05/2023 12:29

I don't think any of them are great but I also hated this task. Too many people in one place, I feel like they were set up to fail. The poor girl that got the walls to do, impossible not to either over compromise or end up uncohesive.

Furbylicious · 14/05/2023 15:13

I agree with @JackRosenberg the whole task was set up to fail.

Given the premise is to create their own apartment, why do they need to be able to collaborate or understand catering/commercial premises? I assume they wanted an extra episode for the number of contestants and don't have enough rooms in the apartment but the criteria felt off to me.

Scandi/retro/eclectic is an odd brief and asking everyone to design their own section and then judge them on it, is going to make it really hard for it to be cohesive. What would probably work best from a design perspective is if one or more of them took a step back and made their section very plain so another one would sing but of course no one is going to want to do that when they're in danger of being eliminated!

Poor Rachel had the hardest task being expected to do all the walls and tie everything together. I'm so glad she wasn't penalised for that. I lived her little sofa corner at the back.

I actually like Justine- I loved the idea of memory tables for that venue. Although the seat height was a real problem.

Patrjcha gets the same criticism repeatedly- no clear idea/confused/rushed. I don't know why she's still here! I hated that she partially blocked the window which would surely have made the cafe dingy?

John irritates me but I can see he has good finish. The bedroom felt very small though, I was surprised he wasn't criticized more for filling it so much. I like his bathroom

Jamie's bar was great! Him or Rachel for the win

SoupDragon · 14/05/2023 15:29

I've just had to google the contestants as I was sure it wasn't "Rachel" but couldn't remember what her name actually was. It is Tara.

SoupDragon · 14/05/2023 15:32

What do people think went on between Justine and Patrycja? They both had conflicting versions about what happened.

I know that Patrycja was going to have the 2 marble tables as replacements though as they showed that bit but nothing else to corroborate either of the versions of the "painted tables" debacle.

SoupDragon · 14/05/2023 15:34

My gut feeling is that Patrycja's version was the truth. Justine looked like my children used when lying as toddlers - completely blank faced but with the slight hint of shiftiness behind the eyes.

CoffeeAndFagToStartTheDay · 14/05/2023 15:56

I've been watching this weekly and to be honest thought it was shit after the first contestant went when she really was nowhere near the worse of them.

the young girl should have gone nearly every week, there is no design just random thoughts flung about. this week was just plain awful 😖

I really can't get on with the format of the program either, so much waffle and repeating of info and points. I think I watched 10 mins altogether this week as I fast forwarded until the brief. fast forwarded until they got together and discussed their plans, fast forwarded and watched a bit of them mid decorating fast forwarded to them finishing, fast forwarded to feed back fast forwarded to see who got red.

I agree 2 should have gone this week.

can't see me watching it next week unless I'm extremely bored.

I agree. I find Patricja a bit annoying and am also surprised she's made it this far, but something about that situation made me suspect Justine had, if not outright lied, at least steamrolled over her.

Oh goodness... Yes Rachel is a character in a book I'm reading and my memory is not what it should be....🙃

I disagree. I thought Justine was more likely to be telling the truth. After witnessing Patrycja's strop at Justine about stripping painting chairs (can't remember which) I can totally imagine her saying to Justine 'Oh just do what you want. I don't want to talk about it'.

Justine's reaction to the tables that were agreed to be a replacement for the (badly) painted ones was quite telling though. I can well imagine Justine steamrollering right over Patrycja. Ruthless!

I thought her reaction at being locked out was interesting too. Very much "What?! This can't be right!"

Irrelevant really as Patrycja is likely to go next week though.

SoupDragon · 15/05/2023 07:47

I was just googling the contestants.

Jamie is a total Ringer - he designs interiors for serviced apartments. No wonder he appears to he head and shoulders above the rest!

All the others have qualifications in Interior Design or run Interior Design businesses except Jack (and even he works with a designer friend when he isn't acting). I can see that they wouldn't want to risk using total amateurs on this but, on the other hand, some of them don't seem very proficient!

Justine's bio says Justine is a determined character, who completed her one-year interior design course in just two months. so I can well imagine her throwing someone under the bus in order to try and win.

Of course, the editing twists things to make more "drama" so it's impossible to tell what they are really like.

LadyDanburysHat · 15/05/2023 09:07

I am glad Justine went this week. She did make the biggest error. Although I agree that Patrycja should have gone too. They were both dreadful.

MedievalMadness · 16/05/2023 09:49

Soupdragon interesting. I must say if they’re all out in the world interior designing, Jamie is the only one I’d vaguely trust not to wreck my home. The rest don’t seem to be able to listen very well and follow the brief.
