Anyone watching The Big Interiors Battle on Channel 4 ?

Actually the big elephant in the room (s 😂😂😂) isn't really being addressed. None of those people are going to live in that flat once it's done. They'll sell it and buy somewhere local to them. I don't think a single one is even local to Sheffield and Claire lived in Cornwal! Couldn't be further away!

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/04/2023 11:45

I agree with the comment about style over substance. None of the judging seemed to focus on whether the kitchen was fit for purpose as a kitchen.

LadyEloise1 · 29/04/2023 14:45

I agree with your points on Dara's judging.
I also agree with your comments on Justine's style.
I agree too with you re Jordan's divider thingy.
And why didn't Jamie put some thing in his fireplace - flowers or candles ?
It looked so bare.

He really missed a trick with the faux fireplace look.

I'd have had it built out a bit more so it had a good wide display shelf above and then a secret compartment where the fire would've been, say a shoe rack, jewellery store or a space to keep paperwork, passport etc. in the bedroom. In the kitchen it could be shelves for a spice collection or maybe cleaning materials, It could've been dressed whichever way. If it was wide enough you could bolt in a mini fire proof safe box. All you need is some mdf, dowelling, magnetic catches to hold the panel across the opening and then perhaps wallpaper that looks like cut log ends. You can get stick on vinyl too, but I don't know how good that looks. I reckon everyone would've cried 'Ingenious!' they like stuff like that don't thy. The downside is, you'd only get that element of surprise once.

As it stands, all it says to me is 'we all know there's no chimney, but I've spent money on a pretend fire surround that doesn't actually do anything.

@VirginiaQ I have no idea about this, but now you've mentioned immediately selling on, I wonder what their tax position would be if they made a good profit over the supposed value and had never lived there?

Cocolapew · 29/04/2023 21:17

Why did they get a judge who is an architect? Surely it should be a designer?

That’s exactly what occurred to me when watching. None of them would up sticks to move to some random flat in a city they don’t know.

I thought that from the beginning when they all said where they lived. Some had families - you wouldn't uproot them to live in a flat in Sheffield however trendy it was.

BirdChirp · 30/04/2023 08:19

Agree that Claire was robbed in the first show. I think the judge felt foolish when she thought the wallpaper was hand-drawn, and then just doubled-down on her.

Probably because she's high profile and has the the Royal connection. Beatrice being married to her ex and stepmother to her son.
I find her a bit contradictory as a judge.
Not unlike Michelle Ogundehin on Interior Design Masters.

Her first degree is in design. She then got a masters in architecture.

Cocolapew · 01/05/2023 13:55

Oh thanks Virginia

Fleabea · 04/05/2023 23:14

Just realised who Patrycja reminds me of - Laney Boggs in She's All That (pre swishy makeover)

LadyEloise1 · 05/05/2023 23:49

Anyone watch tonight's "Bathroom" challenge ?
I liked Jamie's.

OP posts:
Whatsnewpussyhat · 06/05/2023 00:10

Yeah, the right person left tonight. It was awful.

Was jamie the peacock wallpaper?

I think the bright colour woman is a bit of a one trick pony and the younger woman shouldn't have used the same tiles or that wallpaper.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/05/2023 07:28

The right one left, her bathroom was a horrible mess. I liked the panelled one although I'm not sure how long the wallpaper would stay up if the bathroom got steamy and he really seems to be on a mission to conceal the architectural characteristics of the building. I also liked the concrete one although I didn't think I would. The multi coloured style in every room is going to be boring and unlivable but the judge seems to love it.

LadyEloise1 · 06/05/2023 08:00

There's no escape from all those bright colours in Justine's apartment.
My eyes would hurt after a while. Smile

I don't know how John has escaped elimination as clearly Dara is not keen on his style.

I am a bit unclear on the premise of the show,
Is it design the interior of an apartment that will be sold or rented or design the interior of an apartment for yourself. The latter is so subjective.

To be fair I think Dara is trying to be objective re John. She may not like his style but it would be unfair to kick him out because he doesn't have her taste. As a previous poster said it's a concern there's only one judge. If anyone has watched the BBC Interior Design Masters Michelle at least brings in another judge and there have been a number of occasions they've disagreed with Michelle.

The whole premise of the program is problematic as they're meant to be designing their 'dream' apartment but then being criticised on the final product. Some of them are clearly trying to be a bit 'wackier' than they want to be to try and get through which is where the lady with the awful graffiti bathroom came unstuck this week.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/05/2023 10:10

Apparently they're working in teams on a cafe/performance area tonight. So ... coloured stripes one end and Georgian panelling and a fireplace the other?

LadyEloise1 · 12/05/2023 11:20

@VirginiaQ ".......Michelle at least brings in another judge....."
She does but I don't think she listens to them really. It's her way or the highway. Smile
The wrong contestant won that competition.

It's a very poor show tonight. Disappointing. I'd be devastated if this were my venue. The bar is good though and fits the brief. The rest is like nursery school attendees ran riot.

I agree. I like the half tables as storage but the rest is a shit show. I think Patricia should go.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/05/2023 20:56

OK. I can see the point about the unergonomic seating.

martinisforeveryone · 12/05/2023 20:57

Not sure how much to say in case others are watching on catch-me. So I'm happy.

martinisforeveryone · 12/05/2023 20:59

Oh. Auto correct caught me out. Catch-me is catch up, obviously 😁

Whatsnewpussyhat · 13/05/2023 10:19

It was awful. I'm shocked that they kept Patricia.
None of them are very good tbh. More like hobbyists than professionals.
