I know he's controversial but I do love Frankie Boyle...

I agree the scoring has been erratic this series and seems unfair to Ivo especially!

I think it's Kiell who's been consistently undermarked

We missed half of last nights episode as our freesat box decided c4 was off air and didn't record😤

Someone upthread mentioned a controversial event in an upcoming episode, was it whether Frankie's gold shoes were indeed yellow? I also took the not touch the grass to mean just the artificial stuff.

Hi yes it was the yellow / golden shoes decision I was referring to.
I’ve not watched the episode yet so don’t know how much time they spend on it compared to what was recorded.

Will watch later and report back.

I’m also going to the filming next week and very excited. I got tickets for the series now showing but I just didn’t get in - I wasn’t disappointed when I realised that Frankie Boyle was in it, but actually I’ve been happily surprised and he’s been ok. Actually I don’t think I’ve ever disliked anyone on Taskmaster! And I love the erratic marking too 😁

Ladybrrrd · 07/05/2023 08:54

Please tell me the secret og getting tickets! When is best to apply? I keep missing it!

I seem to be in agreement in finding last night kinda meh. The scoring was off. Loving Mae, they're very sweet and their stand up is great outside of this.

SoupDragon · 07/05/2023 09:13

I want to see less earnestness and more cut throat competitiveness from Mae.

SoupDragon · 07/05/2023 09:16

With the shoes and grass task, does it mean that they were actually allowed to walk on the green carpet? I know they were penalised for walking on the real grass, but could they have just walked to the bell?

I went onto SROaudiences and signed up to mailing list for taskmaster - they emailed me when booking was open and I applied straight away. I didn’t get any the first time, second time I did but was just too late and didn’t get in so I get priority booking. This meant this time I was guaranteed tickets.

That's my take on it! It said grass, not green, and they usually specify green (famously "red green"). Unless it was artificial grass, I didn't look closely but my impression is it was a "green".

SgtCatherineCawood · 08/05/2023 09:25

I thought the same about the grass/green. I wondered if that's why the showed the sign saying do not walk on the grass but then they never seemed to mention it

I was also surprised at the words being clearly visible to the audience during the egg task. They usually like to do a big reveal moment when someone realises the answer was there all along

The didn't mention it in the podcast although they did mention that Alex kept reminding them to keep off the grass. I thought they'd bring it up as they often say things that make me shout "yes! I thought that" (not literally shout as I listen whilst walking the dog and that would be weird)

banivani · 08/05/2023 17:59

I thought they'd bring it up too, Gamble usually likes to discuss a loophole.

The thing Taskmaster does so well normally is take people out of their idea of themselves or their persona, but it's not working as well this season IMO. Jenny seems a bit like she's playing a part and Mae is so self-contained it feels like she's in her shell a lot. You need to get those moments where the contestants are just delighted with what's happened and can't hide it. They came closest that episode where the audience didn't like her ball on a string on the drums - that rattled her a bit and her reaction felt very genuine! :D

I am inclined to think the show might be close to jumping the shark since the format is so established you can almost prepare for it. It might have been good to string the seasons out a bit more.

SoupDragon · 08/05/2023 18:21

They discussed other loopholes I think but not about the grass. I need to know! 😂 I think Ed even suggested climbing the fence and then coming in the front gate.

I'd agree that Mae is taking it all very seriously but I think that's just their personality TBH. I think the others are just enjoying themselves. I think Jenny is genuinely having a load of fun and is delighted a lot of the time.

SoupDragon · 08/05/2023 18:23

We've just finished watching Series 7 as a family (as DS1 loves James Acaster). The "real life interpretation of a video game" was sheer genius.

People can’t really prepare for it though, as so many go to pieces under pressure, which is half the fun!

Shortpoet · 08/05/2023 19:07

I’ve finally watched the latest episode. So at the filming they spent ages discussing whether Frankie’s shoes were golden or yellow, or indeed actual shoes. Lots and lots of funny discussion around it. I thought it was going to be much more than it was in the show but was edited down to a tiny amount. So much less of a controversy than anticipated.

Other changes. Lots of BeeGee Ouija board jokes didn’t make it in. Wish I could remember them but Frankie and Greg were hysterical riffing on it. Probably rather tasteless, even for C4.

And I didn’t think it would make it, so wasn’t surprised when it didn’t. When Greg sat on Alex’s lap before the break, they reshot it again at the end of filming (after the mumsnet Greg sex thread conversation) and Greg yelled,
“How do you like that, mumsnet?” as he wriggled on Alex’s lap.

Alas that too didn’t make the cut.

Oh and I forgot to mention that Greg’s favourite quote from the whole sex thread was the mumsnetter that “wanted to ride him like Seabiscuit”’. So whoever that was can be happy that Greg is aware!

SoupDragon · 08/05/2023 19:19

😂😂

Shortpoet · 08/05/2023 21:29

Just remembered another thing, on the last task when they gave to sit down when they hear a six letter word.
They has missed when preparing the task that the word “little” has 6 letters and were expecting it to be a 6 letter word later in the text. That’s why Alex looks so surprised when the task is won.

banivani · 09/05/2023 07:45

Love hearing these titbits from the live show! It also brings home how important the editing is and I think that sometimes they choose the wrong clips tbh ;) Also for the record, gold is yellow-brown but also LUSTROUS and those snow shoes were not lustrous so not gold.

lightinthebox · 09/05/2023 08:02

Scoring has definitely been more generous this year. I actually really like Mae, never heard of them before but they're great to watch.

Already loved Kiell anyway from the shows he's done.

CarryOnThen · 09/05/2023 08:28

I feel like Kiell is being harshly marked. I love him and think he deserves all the marks. I hope he gets to win an episode soon. Also really enjoy Ivo.

Someone up thread was asking about the clean version for kids. The bleeped one is already up. I watch it with the kids every week, I've never seen an unclean episode of Taskmaster and often mean to compare it. The one where I think Sophie Duka brought in a "personal massager" for a prize task I think must have contained more jokes in the main version.

SoupDragon · 09/05/2023 08:49

I liked how they all shut up when it was pointed out that if Frankie's shoes were disallowed, Mae would score 9 for being both fastest and slowest.

There's a fair amount of swearing in the unbleeped version.

Luckily my children are adult/older teen so it doesn't matter!

Mooserp · 11/05/2023 22:14

This week's episode was the one I was in the audience for. It's really strange to see how much gets cut out - some very funny stuff!
I even noticed a bit from one of the filmed tasks (Jenny mentioned she lived in Germany but they cut out her saying her dad was a spy).

CaveMum · 12/05/2023 09:12

Really enjoyed last night’s episode.

Loved that Ivo shone in the egg task and the handcuff task, and yet still managed to lose!

The studio task was my favourite “type” of live task. My favourite still remains the Alan Davies/Victoria Coren-Mitchell/Desree Birch series when they had to make a noise and Greg had to guess who it was 🤣🤣🤣

To quote Alan “WOW!”
