I know he's controversial but I do love Frankie Boyle...

I always worry I'm going to get to a point where it seems repetitive and boring - but that's not happened yet! I have series I like less than others but it's still a show that makes me laugh out loud.

I've never knowingly seen either Sam or Susan but I really like the fact that the show is a good mix of established and newer faces. I'm going to enjoy Sam I think. Susan made less of an impression but we'll see over time. Same with Lucy. I can't tell if it's an exaggeration or her normal personality.

It was great to see Julian back on tv and I love Sue and she didn't disappoint.

Very happy Thursday nights for a while

mrstea301 · 22/09/2023 12:54

I really enjoyed last night - think Sam is my winner already! I had only seen him in Bloods but loving his approach to things. I think it'll be a good, entertaining year tho!

Ladybrrrd · 22/09/2023 13:11

Such a strong start. Great mix of characters and I was wetting myself during the cans task. Amazing!

buzz91 · 22/09/2023 13:35

I didn’t recognise Sam or Susan by name but when I saw them I realised I’d seen them in things.
I was really hoping Lucy would lose what I assume is the persona, but seems not. I’ve really liked people on it before that I’ve not in their comedy persona, ie John Kearns and Joe Wilkinson.
Was also surprised by no one popping the duck!
Started the NZ version last night too, truly getting the TM fix

Mooserp · 22/09/2023 14:03

I've listened to a bit of the podcast, with Ivo Graham as guest, and Ed was saying how excited he was about Lucy, I got the impression Ivo didn't feel the same.

thebellagio · 22/09/2023 14:20

I couldn't stand Ivo. I didn't find him funny at all. Last series was for me one of the weakest by far, but last nights absolutely blew me away. I was laughing so much

Knackerelli · 23/09/2023 11:04

Oh I liked Ivo! Haven’t listened to the podcast yet. Looking forward to them settling in to the studio parts and interacting with each other. The initial meetings were sooooo awkward! At the moment I like all of them but can find Sue a bit smug. Loved Alex chuckling away at the cans task 😃

I agree - I thought I liked Sue, but that episode really started to change my mind. Especially in the big duck challenge when she was so smug.

I was a bit disappointed with the chemistry between everyone. Hopefully it will build up through the series.

SoupDragon · 23/09/2023 12:55

OMG - the cans! Just awesome 😂😂 The way Lucy just crawled out in embarrassment/complete despondency at the end... 😂

The only one I don't like on the basis of one episode is Sam. He came across as smug and sneery and his "performance" up on the stage with the prizes seemed halfhearted and like he couldn't be arsed. I'm sure my opinion will change as the series progresses though.

Loved Sue and loved Julian behaving calmly as if it was all totally normal.

Listened to the rest of the podcast and I retract my earlier statement 😄

I’m enjoying this series and I’m dying to see what’s inside the new pod/updated shed.
i started watching the New Zealand one. I watched about 3 of series 1 but couldn’t take to it, but I started watching series 2 and it was so much better (apart from their obsession with poo based jokes. I get 7 year old boy vibes from that. They find it hysterical!)

buzz91 · 24/09/2023 17:41

@Umanresources I found it hard to get into the first few but the NZ lot grew on me, glad that the second series is even better though!

CarryOnThen · 24/09/2023 20:08

I was really looking forward to watching this with the kids, we always watch the bleeped version. This time the bleeped version hasn’t appeared and it’s so frustrating! Where is it?

Mooserp · 25/09/2023 12:28

Is anyone going to the studio recordings of the next series?

MapleSyrupWaffles · 28/09/2023 21:53

Susan's mischievous task was great! I've never heard of her before but she's good

SoupDragon · 28/09/2023 22:02

Portcullis!

I agree that Susan's Mice/Fish task was excellent 😂😂

CaveMum · 28/09/2023 22:17

Loved tonight’s episode! Also can’t wait for the next Parenting Hell episode to see what Josh Widdecombe has to say about the sword task 🤣🤣🤣

EvilRingahBitch · 28/09/2023 22:24

More to the point I can't wait for the next episode of the Taskmaster podcast. Why is it not out yet?!

GMOOH2023 · 29/09/2023 09:43

@EvilRingahBitch

I don't think the podcast drops until midnight after the show has been broadcast live. The latest episode is there on my feed this morning (haven't listened yet though)

Umanresources · 29/09/2023 10:53

Loved Susan's mischief task and the Josh Widdecombe one was so funny. I'm really enjoying this series with Julian and Sue being so alike in some things and completely opposite in others.
I also finished watching the N Z series 2, my adult daughter and my DP watched the last episode with me. I'd been saving it because I'd quite enjoyed them but I was really disappointed. The David guy decided to be the shouty enraged one at his marks and tasks and was more like iain Stirling, just annoying. Three was a puppet show they had decided to make about wet dreams and menstruation, with props, which was both puerile and embarrassing. The audience were hysterical but we sat there stony faced throughout the whole episode. I think we had a humour bypass for that episode. There are another two series but not available here yet. I wonder if they get better? I don't think they could get worse!

thebellagio · 29/09/2023 11:29

I absolutely loved last nights episodes. As I said before, the tasks have been simplified compared to last season which is why i'm enjoying it so much more.

Julian Clarey and Josh Widdicombe was possibly one of the funniest moments "the small, nasally chap" and "the one with the teeth" - I absolutely died!

And as for Sue's PORTCULLIS! Utter brilliance!

CorylusAgain · 30/09/2023 09:52

Loved this episode and agree with everyone that Susan's mischievous task was brilliant. Julian is great - simply being himself. He's so laid back, not bothered by anything but at the same time appears amused and happy to be there. The Josh Widdecombe bit was so funny.

marcopront · 30/09/2023 11:12

Was the darling daughter in the Josh Widdicome task a reference to Mumsnet

No. It spelled out his surname. So the Darling Daughter was for the DD in Widdicombe.

I know it was for the DD in his name but that doesn't stop it being a Mumsnet reference. Remember someone said he mentioned Mumsnet.
