I know he's controversial but I do love Frankie Boyle...

@RainbowZebraWarrior

No. It spelled out his surname. So the Darling Daughter was for the DD in Widdicombe.

I know it was for the DD in his name but that doesn't stop it being a Mumsnet reference. Remember someone said he mentioned Mumsnet.

Ah right. In that case, maybe it was meant to be a subtle reference. Sorry, it went over my head at the time. Makes sense though 😊

CorylusAgain · 30/09/2023 11:58

Tbf dd is used on social media not just MN

SoupDragon · 30/09/2023 12:55

Yes, DD is used all over.

Mooserp · 30/09/2023 13:39

I loved Sue sitting with her cracker hat on, with the answer slowly dawning on her. 😆

I wanted to see what Jacob Rees Moggs response was. I wonder if the studio audience got to see it

prettycolours · 30/09/2023 20:07

Sam is the guest on the latest podcast ep and it's brilliant. I think I'm a bit in love with him in general. And his fanboying over Julian is very sweet!

I didn't like ep 2 of this series as much as the first but it still had some really good moments. The egg-timer aspect of the wire/nails task felt so pointless though, it wasn't even amusing?! Just a needless complication.

SgtCatherineCawood · 30/09/2023 21:45

DS saw the advert for the New Zealand version so we are sitting through episode one right now. Think he'll be watching the rest on his own. It feels so wrong and weird 🤣

buzz91 · 30/09/2023 23:17

@SgtCatherineCawood I felt like that but some of those tasks are bloody amazing, obviously some of the references just fly over our heads and Jeremy isn’t really the right fit in my opinion but the tasks/contestants/Paul are all great on the most part

Umanresources · 01/10/2023 02:21

I’m now ploughing through series 3 TaskmasterNZ. It might grow on me more!

buzz91 · 01/10/2023 05:45

I’m excited for when series 4 drops (which will be a while because I think it not long finished airing) because I actually recognise one of the contestants (and not just in a, I know your face, let’s IMDb everything you’ve ever done and guess where from way), love Wellington Paranormal!

CaveMum · 01/10/2023 07:59

To be fair the “DD” reference in the Widdecombe task is more likely to have been a reference to the Parenting Hell podcast he does with Rob Beckett. Can’t wait to hear if they talk about it on there next week!

SoupDragon · 01/10/2023 10:09

Surely it was just because they needed words beginning with D?

SoupDragon · 01/10/2023 10:09

Although I've no clue what the message said now 😂

Ladybrrrd · 01/10/2023 11:28

I'm trying NZ as well. I rate the contestants and the Alex Horne equivalent and even the tasks, but the Taskmaster himself is just not the same vibe as Greg. Not animated in his responses, not randomly harsh to assert power, doesn't take the piss out of the contestants in the same way. So, I'm watching it but it's going to be a slow watch.

Listened to the podcast this morning, very funny!

Floralnomad · 09/10/2023 00:16

I’ve just watched last Thursdays episode and I think I’m going to give the rest of this series a miss - the contestants don’t seem to have any rapport and frankly it’s not funny at all .

I agree! And I’ve watched taskmaster from
the beginning so this makes me sad.

They don’t seem to have any kind of interesting group dynamic and importantly none of them are just embracing the silliness.

SoupDragon · 09/10/2023 08:34

Interesting how it's coming across differently. I genuinely don't see how they aren't "embracing the silliness". They seem to be just as engaged as any other group (and more so than, say, Liza Tarbuck who lots of people rave about!)

CwmYoy · 09/10/2023 08:43

I'm not enjoying this series as much as the others. I really enjoyed the last one, apart from Mae who took it too seriously. I'm loving Julian and Sue but the others are a bit bland.

I agree.
They are 5 individuals not an ensemble. And part of the humour in the team tasks is that they are such different characters, often not suited to 'team' working.
I think they have all embraced the tasks which are inherently silly.
Inevitably people are going to enjoy some series more than others but in terms of engagement, I don't think contestants this series are failing.

marcopront · 09/10/2023 09:03

Does anyone think the nicknames are going to come up again?

thebellagio · 09/10/2023 09:37

I think the opposite. I think last series the group didn't gel at all. They were all clearly terrified of Frankie Boyle, and Mae Martin was far to earnest/serious/competitive. I also thought last series the tasks were far too complicated

In comparison, I'm absolutely loving the silliness of Sam Campbell (Greg, are you a child of divorce?). How can you say that Sue Perkins isn't embracing the silliness when she had the epic "portcullis!"

My favourite series were the ones with Dara, Sarah Millican, John Kerns, Fern Brady and Munya - that was absolutely brilliant. As was the Chris Ramsey/Ardal O Hanlon pairings.

Ohhhh, that's a good call! It was a slightly odd task I thought so it would make sense if it came back to haunt them.

SoupDragon · 09/10/2023 09:58

I really dislike Sam but I don't know why! He reminds me of someone so it might be that (although I can't think who it is that he reminds me of... 😂)

Floralnomad · 09/10/2023 10:40

I just didn’t find any of the last episodes tasks funny and if the tasks are lacking then you need the contestants to step up and be the entertainment and for me this lot just don’t do that .

SpikeWithoutASoul · 09/10/2023 11:15

We really laughed at Susan’s fake task for Sam and enjoyed Sue’s nickname video, but some of it is a bit flat. I think there needed to be one more straight forward comedian going for the more obvious laughs.
