2023’s final trilogy of films will find Endeavour and Thursday entering a new era of change both professionally and personally.

Set in the spring of 1972, the final season’s opening episode is directed by none other than Endeavour star Shaun Evans.

The synopsis for the story reads: “Two unexplained deaths turn up ties to the Oxford Concert Orchestra, while a body discovered in a derelict warehouse stokes fears that ‘London business’ has yet again found its way to Oxford.

“Thursday and Endeavour’s investigation unearths some unsettling connections to cases the duo believed were well and truly behind them.”

Tommy Cork the child from Blenheim Vale ten years ago??

AccidentallyFabulous · 05/03/2023 22:15

No - as a pp said he's Jake's - was an officer with Morse but also was in Blenheim Vale children's home. He was 'little Pete', one of a group of children including 'big Pete' who disappeared and they thought had been murdered.

At the end of the episode he left for a better life somewhere I think with his pregnant wife.

It was ages ago though, that series, so I might be remembering wrong...

That charred banknote..... It actually happened a couple of years ago when some wealthy student deliberately set fire to a banknote in front of a homeless man. Not sure if it was Oxford.

AccidentallyFabulous · 05/03/2023 22:35

It was Cambridge, but I think there have been allegations that it's a Bullingdon initiation thing also.

JaneJeffer · 05/03/2023 23:02

Why did Endeavour heed those "traffic" police? Isn't he a higher rank?

kazzaD66 · 05/03/2023 23:06

I know! I was shouting "what are you doing? Stay in the car and drive off!!!" Bloody idiot!!

Rosula · 05/03/2023 23:09

I'm glad they look like tying up the ends on Blenheim Vale. I thought they'd abandoned it, and had a whole fantasy going where Lewis revisited it and sorted it all out.

But I really don't think Thursday can survive, so it will have to be tissues at the ready for the final episode.

AutisticLegoLover · 05/03/2023 23:12

Gosh, next week is going to be quite something. A lot to do in one episode. Who did the PI shoot as 3 shots were fired in his office? What's he done with the body or bodies?

Didn't the blonde student look like he could have been a young Boris Johnson?

stickybear · 05/03/2023 23:18

I thought the exchange between Endeavour and Thursday when Thursday was talking about the war and said something about 'imagine surviving all that only to go out at the last' was pretty strong foreshadowing, particularly given the emphasis on his impending retirement. I hope I'm wrong!

Tonight's is Meta.

Cough Bullingdon Club cough

Think its actually the Phoenix rather than the Bully given a few of the references to a spree in 1988. (Trashing sports cars etc.)

Do you think Joan was going to tell him she'd had second thoughts about Jim?

Tourist29 · 06/03/2023 08:20

Will the Thursdays end up in witness protection never to be mentioned again??

I think that's the point - we'll never know now. And neither will Morse. Missed opportunities and all that.

Though why anyone would pick Jim over Endeavour is beyond me!

Quite!

I don't spend any time trying to mesh Endeavour with Morse .I just view them as two separate things ,and I much prefer Endeavour .

Certainly Endeavour would win in the looks department but Jim was pleasant, helpful and cheerful while I'm afraid Endeavour was a big sulky baby.

I think Strange's wife in the Morse series was called Val, so either he didn't marry Joan, or they split up and he remarried.

Val was Lewis's wife.

I've just watched the pilot of Morse & he comes across as quite jovial at times!

I've just watched the first two episodes of Series 1. In Ep 2 he goes out for a drink with a woman he knew at Oxford who clearly fancied him. It must have been the most boring date ever and he's still sulky and stand offish in the latest series. I would fancy Morse (young version) more than Strange but Strange might have been a better bet - maybe a bit more like her Dad in fact - so maybe it was head over heart. Seeing the older Morse only confirms that.

Crumpetdisappointment · 06/03/2023 09:36

i have only jsut started watching
should i start the whole series at the beginning or nearer to the end? i understand it got better more recently?

I've recently watched the first series as well.

Yes, Alice I think it was decides not to see him again as he's "not ready yet".

How many years is it supposed to be since his fiancee left him??

Each episode tends to cover one crime and could be watched in isolation but there are long running threads in the background like the children's home. That's why I'm watching it all again but you don't have to whereas it was essential in Happy Valley.
