2023’s final trilogy of films will find Endeavour and Thursday entering a new era of change both professionally and personally.

Set in the spring of 1972, the final season’s opening episode is directed by none other than Endeavour star Shaun Evans.

The synopsis for the story reads: “Two unexplained deaths turn up ties to the Oxford Concert Orchestra, while a body discovered in a derelict warehouse stokes fears that ‘London business’ has yet again found its way to Oxford.

“Thursday and Endeavour’s investigation unearths some unsettling connections to cases the duo believed were well and truly behind them.”

Yes I am hoping for a series that connects the 15 (?) years between end of Endeavour and start of Morse.

What would they call it though?

The difference in years between the first book & first TV ep?

Hmm, doesn't really grab you does it?

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/03/2023 11:17

That would be great. I will never watch Lewis, though, because it has that arse Laurence Fox in it.

He is talking International Women's Day nonsense on Twitter.

Knitterofcrap · 08/03/2023 12:50

Perhaps they could call it Crossword?

Agree re Fox. Utter Wankbadger

KrasiTime · 08/03/2023 14:19

I can’t remember but have we met McNutt yet?

diddl · 08/03/2023 15:38

KrasiTime · 08/03/2023 14:19

I can’t remember but have we met McNutt yet?

No.

Maybe in the last one because he takes over from Fred?

Anyone think that Joan might die & that's the reason for the Thursdays never being mentioned?

Isn't Strange's wife Audrey in Morse?

KrasiTime · 08/03/2023 16:10

Thanks diddl

Yes wondering why the Thursdays are never mentioned. I can’t remember the name of Strange’s wife.

IwantToRetire · 08/03/2023 17:46

Isn't there a mistake in that the Morse tv series may have started in the 80s but the books were in the 70s.

I thought that Endeavour was meant to take us up to the start of the books, not when anyone got round to making a crime drama.

If it is when the books starts and given Endeavour's age, then Morse would surely have been on the edge of retirement, as would Strange.

Or they have shown Endearour in the wrong decade.

Totally confused.

But maybe we just cant expect it to have been that exact. In the end isn't it only Strange who is linked to Morse apart from Endeavour.

And also sad because inadvertently I saw a spoiler for next week's episode because i was trying to google this date thing.

In the current series of Endeavour Strange is close to retirement, I think. That's why he was offered superintendent in the New Town which would be seen as a more cushy job and give him a better pension.

I haven't read the original books and I wasn't particularly into Morse when it was on originally so I don't know which decade it was in but I think any prequel would need to match up to the the TV version not the books.

I hope too much of the final episode isn't going to revolve around stuff that happened donkeys' years ago. I can't remember what I did last week so I've no hope if it trawls back to series 2

diddl · 08/03/2023 18:23

Is McNutt in the novels?

The Morse episode that he is in-is that based on a book?

IwantToRetire · 08/03/2023 18:40

The Morse books start in 1976, so that is only a few years away from where Endeavour is in this series.

So they must be using the tv series date.

re Lewis - when it first started noboy knew much about Fox, but it was really sad for Lewis that having got rid of pompous patronsing Morse he got lumbered with supercilious snob Hathaway.

Though from the way the ended the last episode of Lewis that they were thinking / hoping there would be a series about Hathaway. Not much chance of that now. But maybe that nice young female detective could be the lead in a spin off.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/03/2023 19:20

It trawls back to S2, definitely

Twazique · 08/03/2023 19:23

I would love a series of Hathaway! He would need a Lewis to ground him.

No Laurence Fox though, revolting individual.

Who would we have play Hathaway?

MrMarkham · 08/03/2023 19:52

According to Google Strange's wife was called Valerie in Morse tv series. So it does look like he doesn't marry Joan (I hope she doesn't die!)

I have been watching Watchmen on hbo and she's in that! It's very good!

Agree! I only watched the whole lot fairly recently and still can't remember loads of the Blenheim Vale story.

Laurence Fox is such a disappointment. I really enjoyed Lewis at the time, and I liked Hathaway. I would even have been willing to watch a Hathaway spin off. Then Fox turned out to be a right wanker.

I’ve gone right back to the start and am mainlining Endeavour on itv. The plan is to move to Morse then Lewis over the next few weeks. I’m convalescing after a minor operation and it’s very comforting.

I’m really hoping Thursday just retires - it’s another 15 years until Morse starts, so maybe he and Strange just don’t mention Thursday because it’s quite a long time ago for them? And if Strange does marry Joan, perhaps it’s just super awkward for Morse so he ignores it. I’m not sure Strange even knows that Endeavour has/had feelings for Joan!

Gilmorehill · 08/03/2023 21:20

There’s so much to wrap up, I can’t understand why they only did 3 episodes.

I thought it was Lewis’s wife who was Val. I only remember Strange’s wife being referred to as Mrs Strange in the tv series. I read some of the books early 80’s so can’t remember.

diddl · 08/03/2023 22:00

Lewis's wife was definitely Val.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/03/2023 22:22

There's only 3 eps but they're 2hrs long not 1.5

Funding. Russell Lewis wrote it as a 3 ep series, like the last one.

Fitting in filming is hard eg Anton Lesser was filming a film and starting a play at same time as doing Endeavour. So you have got to get your main actors all available for the months it takes to film. The more episodes obviously the longer the shoot time and the harder that becomes.

Clawdy · 08/03/2023 22:27

Yes, Lewis's wife was definitely Val.

IwantToRetire · 11/03/2023 16:27

Have just seen that there will be a special documentary(?) on sunday after the final episode (and news).

Looks more like chat between the actors, so dont expect it will answer the many questions I am sure we will have tomorrow evening.

Just thought I would let enthusiasts know.
