Oh I love it already. That elderly gentleman was amazing.. as are many of them.

And I do love Claudia. She's so warm and funny.

Lang Lang doesn't know you are meant to wait 7.5 hours before announcing the winner.

I thought Lucy covered her ears for applause at the train station. Maybe they've been 'training' her?

He didn't put the giant pause in after 'and the winner is...'

I thought you were going to say he leaked the results early on his Twitter feed or something!

Yes, I wondered about that too. She seemed very adjusted given her initial baseline. But I really liked the way she and LL interacted - I felt it was really good for both of them!

I do hope that Lucy's success will help her, The Amber Trust, and her superb teacher. I've seen a few of their videos on YouTube and they seem just SO brilliant. Perhaps Lang Lang will become a patron.....one can but hope.

Watching now and absolutely in awe of Lucy

Genius .

Im a bit confused by all the calls for 'diversity' on the thread, the players were picked on merit, who they are and what they look like is somewhat irrelevant.

Personally although Lucy is no doubt a genius my vote for the performance of the night should have been the last performance (is it Danny?), the message to himself, the self written composition meant for me it was way above Lucy.

Also the first person, his own composition

Lucy did amazingly last night. There's something almost otherworldly about here - an incredible talent.

I'm so sad it's over, wish they'd made more than 5 episodes and yes, Lucy was unbelievable.

I loved the potential of this programme, more than the reality. If they do another series, I would like to see Mika replaced by a woman. Mika had too much of a say, which is why we ended up with the three young men who weren’t that talented.

Lucy was utterly amazing. ❤️

I don't know whether they could ever reproduce this format, now that people are aware that there'll be judges watching them in secret.

I’m not sure why there had to be a winner, or indeed a Festival Hall concert - for it would have been great viewing just watching talented people playing their pieces. And that could be continued in a future series, maybe in different train stations. I think their backstories and the way they connected with the piano/music was the interesting part.

They could just do away with the secret judges now and carry on.. preferably with different ones

I so agree with this. I would love to see more amateur pianists just doing their thing ... because. I wonder what they were told before the competition was "revealed"? I often watch clips of people playing public pianos on YouTube and feel inadequate!! And hello bigTillyMint - nice to see you here (I know you of old <taps nose>).

On the diversity point the three young white men chosen were not much better than many of the other contestants which is why it was so frustrating not to have a broader range in the ‘final’. If they had at least picked more to play at the concert it wouldn’t have mattered so much.

Just caught up... don't really know what to say.

Lucy is clearly brilliant. But what really moves me more was how the others appreciated and supported her. The boys seemed in awe of her as much as any.

What fabulous tv.

Enjoyed this series a great deal but it did miss the mark on a few bits. Three guys of similar age in the final - if one of the judges had been a woman, would it have been different? Maybe... I wish there had been an older person selected too - there were some great players who were older.

Those saying Lang Lang was wooden etc - I actually didn't feel this at all, I was amazed how engaging he was (I think just Mika was a bit hyper), and I loved how (the Oxford guy excepting) he found really positive things to say about everyone. I'd have been turning my nose up at the vast majority of these players in his shoes, and he didn't do that once. For all the uplifting stories, objectively, most people here weren't really especially talented - that wasn't what the show was about - but he was still kind. Mika 'explaining' things to Lang Lang was all for the camera - he didn't need telling about any of the music, although he did need telling about the Baileys, which was so sweet!

Also felt slightly aghast they gave all the finalists pianos - they're unlikely to be in their 'forever homes' and moving a piano is a massive, expensive pain in the !!

I thought that when they were moving those pianos in, they’re just giving them a hassle and what if they didn’t fit in their houses!

Lucy was absolutely stunning, the connection and meeting of minds between her and Lang Lang was beautiful to watch. Her mum and piano teacher are just such wonderful people. I loved seeing more of Lucy’s personality on show.

I really loved Sean’s performance too, really loved his composition. The other two men were amazing too, but I didn’t feel their performances were focused on their skills as pianists more as songwriters.

I really enjoyed watching the concert in full which is the sixth episode.

I think Lucy was amazing, I just can't believe she is able to do what she does, it doesn't feel real, she is so special.

Sean is a superb pianist but I wasn't keen on his piece this time, I preferred what he played at the station.

The other two are not particularly special IMO. I can't see what is relevant to this programme about them really, I would have liked to see true pianists go through. My son is a musician and we see people on the circuit regularly who are much better than both of these, both as songwriters and musicians, including DS. I preferred the last guy as felt he put emotion into what he did and had a nice sounding voice, not amazing but perfect for what he was performing. If I'm honest I didn't think the 1st lad could sing at all.

I have loved this programme so much, I really hope they do something similar in the future, its a lovely concept and just the winners going through to a final performance would be fine.
