Oh I love it already. That elderly gentleman was amazing.. as are many of them.

And I do love Claudia. She's so warm and funny.

He may know a lot about music but if he spends most of his waking hours at the piano then I'm not surprised he doesn't know what Baileys is.

Interestingly, Mika needed to explain about blues to Lang Lang, and the rhythm, cant remember who was playing at the point, early on in this evenings show

Shampern · 01/03/2023 22:17

The old guy was good, for his age, but I thought he was same old same old - if you get my meaning.

Stopsnowing · 01/03/2023 22:37

I am a bit disappointed that they will only invite 5 to play at the concert

ImAGoodPerson · 01/03/2023 22:50

I loved the young girl and Sean. I totally understand how the girl felt, I gave up playing piano publicly when I was a teenager as I would get so stressed about it. I would feel completely out of control. I did play to accompany someone recently and when my DCs were small I helped out with school music concerts, playing for the kids shows. I was still terrified then!

I think it's better if they don't sing and we just hear them playing the music. The programme is called The Piano after all. I too didn't like the couple who sang ABBA. It was dreadful.

Agree.

Would they allow accompanists for other instruments?

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2023 21:11

Anyone here tonight?

Birmingham already better than Glasgow. only in piano terms

lipstickwoman · 08/03/2023 21:15

First two both enjoyable but I'm not blown away by either.

Oh wasn't the recording of her husband so touching?

Are we the only two watching and blubbing tonight??!

Pureradio · 08/03/2023 21:30

How can she be 81?!

lipstickwoman · 08/03/2023 21:31

I think we are @Piggywaspushed. Would you like a glass of my rather nice Merlot to watch the rest? 😊

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2023 21:34

Oh that sounds nice! Thank you. Wine

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2023 21:44

Oh this poor boy. What a wound to bear.

lipstickwoman · 08/03/2023 21:46

That's an awful load to carry through life.

Isn't it?

Am I wrong in thinking this programme has picked more young males than anything else?

They'll obviously go for him this week.

lipstickwoman · 08/03/2023 21:50

I was just thinking that the only one I can recall was Lucy.. obviously the others didn't have the same impact (or I had had more wine )

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2023 21:51

The rather experimental ASD chap last week and the rough around the ages blond chap from IOW. Lucy. Not sure about others.

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2023 22:01

4? Why did I think 5?

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2023 22:02

So, yeah - 4. Three young men and Lucy.

spiderlight · 08/03/2023 22:08

I wish they'd chosen one older pianist.

BishyBarnyBee · 08/03/2023 22:11

It's a bit odd that there is so little diversity in the performers- all white, all young, all with quite complex issues, 3 young men. I'm guessing Channel 4 did the original casting for diversity then gave Mika and Lang Lang free rein. I've absolutely loved the programme, loved the two of them as judges, loved the way they interact, but I do feel a bit disappointed with the final line up and wonder if it would have been different if there had been a black or female judge. It's almost as if it never crossed their mind that they might have any kind of bias.

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2023 22:14

Yes, the issue may be with the two judges- perhaps specifically Mika who I think connected with the stories of the young chaps.

I would have liked more pianists. Two per programme might have led to greater breadth and variety.

lipstickwoman · 08/03/2023 22:20

I think Claudia has been the perfect host.. warm and able to put them at ease. Haven't taken to either Mika or Lang Lang. One is too 'ooo I'm on tv' and the other a bit bland and wooden.
