I think of it as them in their early days although Sheila is a lot more feisty than Barbara. She's a bit more passive 😄

Just watched the Gavin storyline and also saw the actor in a classic episode of Casualty today.
I watch more classic tv now than new stuff!

Her name in the credits was Melinda Burrows.
Wasn't she called Malandra Burrows, or something like that, in her Emmerdale days.

Yes I think they must have made a mistake as according to wiki that has always been her name, a combination of her parents two names I think.

I feel awful....but I just can't be bothered to watch much more!
For the last few Wednesdays I am so excited that some new episodes are ready to watch but I am actually bored rigid watching them.
The pace is so slow, It seems.to be the same conversations going over and over again

Yes, it's not exactly riveting, I have it on in the background too.
Makes you wonder how it kept going really, but I guess there were different expectations on tv shows back then.
Wonder when the pace picks up and it'll get more interesting.

I didn't watch until a good few years into it originally so don't remember these early days.

How quickly can Barry put up an extension?!

Am finding the Collins and their 'storyline', if they really have one, boring! Other than that quite enjoying it.

I like the slow pace of it but I do tend to have it on in the background

Ha! I have found my people. I watched Brookie from '83 as a teenager to the mid-90s and loved it, so it's a total nostalgia trip catching up. Like everyone else, I can't get over the fact that Paul Collins is supposed to be only 55 - he and Annabelle look like my parents and yet they're now my contemporaries......I know Lucy is a terrible snob but it's so sexist the way that she's had to leave her private school in her O level year yet her younger brother gets to stay at his. And the fact that she's groped at school and absolutely nothing happens. Did anyone else notice the nudes pinned up in the factory break room, too? Just wouldn't happen now.

I love seeing the actors in their younger days. Karen Grant was so cool, and everyone in my class had a crush on Damon. We were heartbroken when he, erm, left! And great to see Alexandra 'Letter to Brezhnev' Pigg as Petra.

Oh yes I had the biggest crush on Damon!

I don't remember Alan Partridge living in the bungalow but I remember his character.
I'd forgotten that he was the original Alan Partridge though 😂

Lucy is older as she is doing her GCSEs (or whatever they were called then)

I assumed until now that she was younger and Gordon was doing a levels.

I am! Still enjoying it, mainly from the pov of the social history and the historic development of tv/soap operas.

same here. I'm still watching but am a week's worth behind. Sheila Grant is definitely my mum. I can remember the arguments about not going to mass in the same way as Sheila's arguing with Karen!
