Has anyone else been watching today? I've watched 4 episodes so far. Dated, but loving it

Just catching up - poor Sheila - she looked gorgeous in that dress, but Bobby completely bevvied 😞

RainbowZebraWarrior · 17/02/2025 12:51

Just watched Damon and Debbie and couldn't believe how bloody awful it was. I was obsessed with it as a 16 year old at the time. It was such an unhealthy relationship dynamic. Damon was petty, jealous controlling and violent. Jeez, so weird to look back and think that all seemed normal (nay, aspirational) to have a boyfriend like that.

x2boys · 27/02/2025 16:14

STV have dropped the episodes of south spin off with Tracy and Jamie in London for those that don't know, and it's under South not Brookside I found them a bit pointless tbh.

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 28/02/2025 09:06

@x2boys i just had to google that one; couldn’t recall it. They were meant to be part of an educational series apparently en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_(miniseries)

I also have absolutely no recollection of this. Especially so soon after the Damon and Debbie spin off. However, I was over invested in the Damon and Debbie romance at the time and didn't care much about Tracy and Jamie's storyline.

VanillaImpulse · 04/03/2025 00:01

I thought South was really good. Loved all the 80s music and seeing old London with some decent shops!

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 04/03/2025 07:51

I can only see one episode of South on STV? Or is it two run together?

It's two together.

thecatdidit · 06/03/2025 20:56

Thank you for recommending South, I've just watched it. Oh how London has changed, no way could a minimum wage earner afford to rent there now. I used to have a boyfriend who lived in Brixton in the 80s and his place was very like the house but his was a bedsit.
Forward to today and my son lives in south east London and rents can be £2k pcm for a 2 bed flat 😮

And Jamie was outraged about paying£ 40 to £50 / week ! Obviously it's all relative but it makes you think.

bigTillyMint · 19/03/2025 18:38

Finally caught up on South - loved that they started it with a Liverpool band, and the Morrisey cameo!
it was so reminiscent of when I moved to London in the late 80s - loads of squats-v-the excesses in the city. The Lloyds building where my friend worked seemed so futuristic and the money being thrown around at lunchtimes was insane.
I paid £50 a week for a room in a shared house from 1987- 1992 IIRC!

NCTDN · 23/03/2025 17:42

Annabelle Collins is only 51!

bigTillyMint · 24/03/2025 18:26

Yes @NCTDNi thought that too! My own mum looked 60 most of her adult life - hairstyle and clothes didn’t help them much!

They really didnt did they my parents got married in 1971 my paternal grandmother would only have been about 54 but going off her outfit and overall look she could been anywhere between 50 and 80

My parents were married in 1956 and my two grandmothers would’ve been 52 and 44 yet look in their 70s.

bigTillyMint · 26/03/2025 10:14

@MadisonAvenuemy parents married in 1956 too!

Has Bobby now left?

x2boys · 28/03/2025 13:15

NCTDN · 28/03/2025 12:46

Has Bobby now left?

Yes he left in that strange scene where you just heard him shouting and slsmming the door.

NCTDN · 28/03/2025 13:45

I vaguely remember it being in the news how he just walked out when filming and never came back.

Bubblegumpink13 · 28/03/2025 14:20

Bobby was pretty awful wasn’t he? Such a dinosaur.

Does anyone else think that Sheila always looks so smart. I mean she probably dresses older than she is, but even so she always looks well put together.

ChkChkBoom · 09/04/2025 17:08

Does anyone know what the 80's pop song they keep playing is??? I've googled and can't find it 😂 Sheila and Kathy were dancing to it in the nightclub, and they're playing it now at Terry and Jonathan's barbecue. It's a guy singing "Set me free, why don't you" on repeat (it's not a version of the Kim Wilde song, it's defo a different song). I wonder was it made just for the program? Every time they play it, it gets stuck in my napper 😂

Bubblegumpink13 · 09/04/2025 18:26

I read that all of the music was specially made for the show, so that they didn’t have to pay fees and royalties.

That’s why all the children had to watch The Magic Rabbits too.

Thanks for that! It's quite a catchy wee tune, and I thought maybe I remembered it from my childhood. It must just sound familiar because it's so unmistakeably 80's.

I don’t think she works in a salon now, she’s got a new job
