Kate Fitzgerald was amazing in her story lines over recent episodes.
I can't really recall seeing her in much else after Brookie .

She was superb.
I know she was in Benidorm.

Brilliant acting today ,I was touched with the scene between Harry and Ralph discussing Damon and Harry said something like it's not fair old people like him and Ralph go on and on and Damon dies very poignant

She was in corrie for a small part as Sinead tinkers Grandma .

I'm just watching Damon and Debbie. I was obsessed when I was younger but omg it's awful!

Just watched the first two of this weeks batch. So well acted, I was tearing up for a fictional character from nearly 40 years ago!

Utterly heartbreaking. Damon was one of my favourite characters.

Same here, I’ve watched the first two so far and the acting is wonderful, and I loved Barry’s speech. Nice touch to bring Gizzmo back for the funeral too, but a shame that Karen didn’t return for it.

I’d forgottten that the Rogers family were Harry’s tenants when they first appeared.

Yes. Why not bring karen back ( i know she does briefly come back at some point)
It makes no sense they couldn't get hold of her it was 1987 not 1887 ok we didn't have mobiles or the Internet. But university students still kept in touch with their parents via phone box,s and visited etc

Yes it was dreadful such a shame though when brookside was written and acted so brilliantly.

Sue who works with Jonathan looks just like Laura. Too confusing for me !

Yes she does!
But she's a better actress imo
The acting waa excellent again in the grants house
Very realistic portrayal of their marriage breakdown.

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 23/01/2025 09:45

I seem to be alone in thinking that Damon and Debbie wasn’t that bad! 😂 I quite enjoyed it and thought it was similar to the first few months of the actual soap ie a bit clunky. Does anyone remember the dreary episodes entirely about Bobby Grant being on strike? It was like a dramatisation of an Open University episode crossed with a kitchen sink drama. Very heavy handed

Bingowingo · 24/01/2025 08:35

I think the thing that was lost when rewatching Damon and Debbie after all these years was the absolute shock of it. I remember not being able to comprehend that Damon had died - one of those TV moments you still think about the next day (like the final Blackaddder). It’s rare to have that shock now, thanks to media leaks and social media filming spoilers.

Starintheshow · 24/01/2025 18:41

Spoiler alert.

Watching Frank and Chrissie Rogetx come into the show only shows how outstanding the acting is from Sue Johnston and Ricky Tomlinson as Bobby and Shiela.

I don't know if I can be bothered to carry on watching once Bobby leaves. Although I do want to see Sheila get together with Billy Corkhill.

I'm exactly the same.
I've seen the bits I really wanted to see.

DoreenCorkhill · 24/01/2025 19:20

Yep this period marks the end of the classic years.
It starts to become quite sensationalist and characters change (The cult the body under the patio etc etc)
Its been lovely to look back at the 80s when I was a teenager and avid Brookie viewer .
I think I stopped watching it around 1992 .

I think you're totally right with this. It was a totally shocking storyline, the spin off itself was unusual; people were massively invested in these characters. We sat down religiously to watch it. There was no pausing TV while family members went to the loo, etc.

bigTillyMint · 24/01/2025 19:48

I watched till it finished in the 90s - I will keep watching 😀

It ended in 2003. But I stopped watching it in around 2000.
I think the viewing figures just plummeted in the last few years.

Edited

Yes I seem to remember they messed around with the time slots
Having it on really late at night and the stories got increasingly ludicrous.

bigTillyMint · 31/01/2025 15:58

Bobby trying to pour Sheila’s Sherry away 😱
A trifles not a trifle without the sherry 😀

x2boys · 07/02/2025 21:38

Did Bobby rape sheila?
She was saying no and he was persistent
And then it cut to him crying so I assumed he did
I know rape in marriage wasent a crime untill thr 90,s ( awful)
The next day it seemed all had been forgotten..

NCTDN · 07/02/2025 21:52

I wondered that

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 08/02/2025 10:36

Yeah me too. I think he did :-(

thecatdidit · 09/02/2025 19:10

I've just watched that episode, very distressing. And yes, rape in marriage wasn't made illegal until 1992. I've just googled it as I wasn't sure.
