I just googled the actor who played Gordon was born in 1959 ,so he would have Been in his late 20 s playing an 18/19 year old not great casting!

terrible casting he looks way too old!

Bringing home Olive oil from Turkey, and then saying you can get it here, I’ve seen it in the shops 🤣

As a child, the only time I ever saw olive oil was in a tiny bottle from the chemist, used for when I had an earache 🤣

Yeah I thought that 😂

bigTillyMint · 30/12/2024 17:36

I was shocked to hear Laura was celebrating her 24th birthday, but on googling it looks like the actress who played her was only slightly older than that!

Also her husbands excitement over the “compact disc player” for his stack system 🤣

The wedding made me laugh when she got home late and said give me ten minutes and came down in that monstrosity ,with The flower garland plonked, on her head 😂😂

When Sheila helped Annabel clear up at number 9 after the accident she left "our Claire" in the house all alone as Bobby had gone out to take Debbie home with Damon! I think Bobby said something like she's settled now, she won't wake up Shock

I know this wouldn't be appropriate in this day and age but when I was a kid in the 80,s my mum and Dad said on new ,years eve,s etc they would have parties with the neighbours and everyone would leave their children asleep in bed and they would be in and out of other people's houses doing the conga etc I guess in Bobby,s head Sheila was only a couple of doors away so he thought "our claire "would be fine?

VanillaImpulse · 01/01/2025 21:14

Yes true, I remember now that my parents used to go to the house over the road every New Year's Eve and me and my brother would be left alone. We were a bit older than R Claire though!

Yes i don't think " our claire" is nt three yet or maybe barely
But I think parenting waa a little lax in the 80,s so what seems horrifying to us might have been more common then?

Has anyone watched this weeks yet? I've got two to go.

I have, I watched Damon and Debbie in between too so that the story followed properly.
Though I forwarded through much of D&D. I didn’t remember it being quite so long.

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2025 22:02

Is D&D on the same STV link?

Bingowingo · 09/01/2025 22:11

Amazing acting from Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston this week.

NCTDN · 09/01/2025 22:15

Ah I didn't Damon and Debbie was released now. Need to find that before the last two episodes.

I’ve watched it on the STV app, it’s listed separately to the Brookside episodes.

@Bingowingo they were outstanding weren’t they. Even the scene where Sheila was watching Rod and the policemen from the window, the look on her face was heart wrenching as she started to realise.

Yes fabulous acting from sue and Ricky
The Damon and Debbie spin off was appalling however imo very amateurish and the story didn't really flow or make a lot of sense.

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2025 15:23

Just watched Damon &Debbie - the moaning York Uni lecturer at the bus stop and then showing them round looked very familiar.

And did their story just end abruptly like that?

As in you never see Debbie again? If so, she does reappear in Brookside over the course of the next year or so (88-89ish).

I honestly don’t remember it being that long, I remember bits and pieces from each episode but really thought it was just crammed into the one episode.

It really jarred with how well Brookside was written, directed and produced.

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2025 16:45

I saw it was actually written by Frank Cotterell Boyce who also wrote several of the Brookside episodes so far.

Brilliant - I’m watching the first D&D now. I’m loving the shots of York and York Uni - I never went there but it’s so evocative of my teen aspiration. Kind of bitter sweet memories for me. I remember I was around Gcse age at the timE and every kid in school watched this and talked about it. I had no clue - we only had one tv and my dad dominated it so I never watched Brookie.

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 10/01/2025 21:07

Lol at the opening sequence and the ‘jump’
into the next scene. I think umpteen influencers must have been watching Debbie and Damon!

VanillaImpulse · 15/01/2025 15:43

She's also seen at Damon's vigil and funeral

VanillaImpulse · 15/01/2025 15:44

Just watched the first two of this weeks batch. So well acted, I was tearing up for a fictional character from nearly 40 years ago!

Same here, I’ve watched the first two so far and the acting is wonderful, and I loved Barry’s speech. Nice touch to bring Gizzmo back for the funeral too, but a shame that Karen didn’t return for it.

I’d forgottten that the Rogers family were Harry’s tenants when they first appeared.
