Tales of an average Northern working class street that’s home to three widows of serial killers, including one whose brother is also a serial killer.

Even into his business meetings.

I hate the way she coos over creepy Stephen

Honeyroar · 04/03/2023 17:48

It would’ve been much better/realistic if they’d had Amy and Aaron just hooking up and hiding from summer (and him realising how boring Summer is).

lollipoprainbow · 04/03/2023 15:32

I do wish Elaine would stop 'bobbing' in.

She always does like an irritating insect

eggandonion · 04/03/2023 19:16

@Honeyroar I agree, we have to worry about Daisy and Stephen just now plus Hopes next move and Max having a crisis. Plus Paul and Gemma and the debt thing. Amy and Tall could have just drunk too much, had a long meaningful conversation and fallen asleep.
I don't think I cope with Summer doing her A level.

luckylavender · 05/03/2023 08:13

Why is showing refugees 'virtue signalling?'

afterdropshock · 05/03/2023 08:32

I think date rape is realistic actually. And spiking drinks. She is not that young to have had to deal with these things. Of course the teen abortion is less common, but does happen. Amy is at least 18 now. I had experienced lots of horrible things like this when I was that age.

Thisisthewaywe · 05/03/2023 09:03

@luckylavender I think it is because of the way it is done.

I think Corrie of old would have done a good job with it. You’d get a real sense of a person - a character, a backstory, who they are - and the sort of storyline we’ve had recently would be built up slowly, over months and months. As it is, a refugee just turns up in Speed Dahl and predictably is saint-like. Who is he though? I don’t even know his name … which country is he from? Family? His only purpose is for the refugee storyline, which is zoomed through at the speed of light (in what, six months max has been completely groomed, then reformed, then found guilty of attempted murder.)

Maria is shouting about refugees but with no sense of why, it’s literally just ‘people should not be racist’ which most of us know!

Amy turned 19 last month. Along with Faye and Summer, she’s been pregnant - it does get silly. Also, Amy always struck me as too savvy for a teen pregnancy storyline.

afterdropshock · 05/03/2023 09:35

Though 3 teen pregnancies on one street in 10 years is plausible.

zanahoria · 05/03/2023 10:28

Maria was also talking about her experience of stalking but forgot to mention she has stalked Tyrone.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 05/03/2023 11:59

And also got stalked by lesbian army woman (Caz?)! She’s had quite the life!

zanahoria · 05/03/2023 12:56

I did laugh when Daisy was slagging off Maria's hairdressing skills. Maria may have had a colourdul life but workwise she has never moved on from Audrey's. Natasha left and opened two salons, even Candice gor the job with The Quo but Maria has been stuck doing old ladies and Ken's hair for 20 years. I can see why Daisy may be sceptical

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 05/03/2023 15:24

Also, given she’s been hairdressing for over 20 years now, she still holds a comb like it’s a bomb and time she goes near a fringe 😁

I know it was all set up so that Daisy and Maria could bond over their stalker experiences, but would Jenny really have thought Daisy would be thrilled at the idea? There must be hundreds of hair salons in Manchester - but no, once her original choice had to pull out, it was Maria or nothing.

zanahoria · 05/03/2023 17:32

Now Maria is on the council, she has passed a local byelaw saying she has the right to do the hair of every bride resident in Coronation Street.

I guess it is better than letting David do it, with the state of his mop he should be barred from hairdressing for life.

I agree on the refugee storyline. They brought a refugee character in, did the storyline (which actually didn’t feature him that much, the focus was more Alya and Maria), and as soon as he’d outlived his usefulness to the plot, he’s written out. That’s not really the way to do it. It would’ve been much better to show him integrating over time into the Street and a longer-term life in the UK.
Plus some of it wasn’t that well done. (They had him working at Speed Dhal - but wouldn’t he be prohibited from working until his asylum application was processed?)
As for the Amy storyline - grim. I do suspect they will go down the route of Aaron thinking he’s done nothing wrong. But in reality, how could he not know? He absolutely knew she was unconscious. I guess we’ll see how it pans out but I’m not sure I have the stomach to watch it - what with this, the Daisy stalking, and horrible Stephen, I’m not really finding it comfortable to watch.

Bagpuss2022 · 06/03/2023 21:00

Poor Amy she’s such a fantastic actress that was heartbreaking

FatCatt · 06/03/2023 21:05

Having been spiked and raped at 18, just 5 years ago, Corrie is a difficult watch at the moment

thenightsky · 06/03/2023 21:15

So we mention on here that Abby and baby Imran haven't been seen in months and low and behold, here they are!

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 06/03/2023 22:29

The plot twist with Justin dating Daisy’s mom was a weirdly damp squib. If you realised your stalker would go to the extent of trying to seduce your mother, you’d be horrified - and even someone like Christina, who isn’t exactly a conventional mother, would have massive alarm bells going off once she realised. But no - Christina jokes about Daisy being a drama queen, Daisy does a hard stare and walks out, as if it’s just one more mildly annoying thing, then Christina pops up later and just says “Yeah, you’re right, turns out he is a loon”. Total anticlimax.

The same with Beth and The Slap. Beth is finally caught out and does a sort of “Oops, soz” face, Fiz and Tyrone look mildly pissed off… hardly high drama, is it?

Is the Fizz actress pregnant? If so I assume Cilla will need her again soon.

EachandEveryone · 07/03/2023 00:33

Oh will the baby mommy come back whilst shes away?

bizzey · 07/03/2023 01:31

Ohhh that would spice things up a bit ....and hopefully get Stephen off the scene as well for a bit !!

I'm amazed no one has slapped'Awp before tbh

zanahoria · 07/03/2023 12:07

I find the backstory with Daisy's mum confusing. Why does Daisy not like her and where is the dad? Or will he ring up at the last minute and say he could not make it.

StubbleAndSqueak · 07/03/2023 12:34

I'm so sorry @FatCatt Flowers
They are leaping from story to story with no building blocks to work on, it's just not making any sense
I'm still convinced that the writers are all writing independently with no knowledge of what the other writers are doing or any sense of history or past relationships
It's fucking ridiculous at times
I think they should add a 'least believable story line' to the award ceremonies. Force them to stop being so bloody sloppy
Again, where's Tiny, the kitten, the posh retirement home, customers in the pub, the Costa, Jack???????? Arrrrrrrrrrrgh
