@Emotionalsupportviper yes I'd forgotten about them.

I wish we could use the character's name on the TV threads rather than nicknames because it's always a distraction for people who aren't in on the joke. But I expect that's just me.

Totally agree.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 25/01/2023 23:39

Catching up before going to bed, wishing my life away until Sunday, and just thought, isn't it nice to have something that you cannot binge?

XanaduKira · 25/01/2023 23:42

I like the nicknames as I can never remember the characters actual names!

Puffalicious · 26/01/2023 00:47

There was all this moaning about nnames on the Married at First Sight Threads. It's all part of the fun, part of what makes it funny. People bring their own paranoia about cliques when we're all anonymous folk just up for some fun chat with whoever is engaging. I can't be doing with the navel gazing and PC policing.

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/01/2023 07:51

I'm not moaning, I'm just SAYING. Couldn't give a fluff about cliques on the TV threads (I'm a regular on the Love Island and MAFS threads too under different names), I'm just here for the TV chat. But nicknames are a distraction if you missed the original memo, which lots of people do, then the nicknames keep having to be explained. That's all 🤷‍♀️

Emotionalsupportviper · 26/01/2023 08:54

AlmondBake · 25/01/2023 23:30

Totally agree.

Now - I often can't remember the characters' names, but the nicknames stick in my mind.

Usually when I'm posting one anything fr the first 5 episodes if I didn't use a nickname I'd be writing -"The one who set fire to the warehouse fill of bassoons", tr the one who usually wears a striped jumper".

Each to their own, I suppose.

Is is, actually.

As my teaching used to say - You can't learn self-discipline if discipline has never been imposed upon you initially.

*teacher, not teaching

Stop it, autocorrect. It's not big and it's not clever

Well that's fine for you. However, some of us would like to discuss what is a really excellent and serious drama without the - often cringeworthy - cliquey jokes, nicknames, faux Yorkshire accents, discussions about unrelated topics etc etc. Just saying.

Have you thought of starting your own thread for Serious Happy Valley Fans?

Most of us here really enjoy the craic.

AlmondBake · 26/01/2023 09:10

@Emotionalsupportviper - if I could keep the 'craic' lovers out I would!

AutisticLegoLover · 26/01/2023 09:10

Why do the ends of these threads get weird? I think the subject matter of the program needs the light relief and humour prevalent on here.

Deadringer · 26/01/2023 09:12

Room for all I say.

I'm sure they'd stay out of it if you didn't respond to them. Just make it clear in the opening post that it is for serious discussion only.

The alternative, of course, is that you don't bother with the "cringeworthy" threads.

That'll teach us!

I agree @AutisticLegoLover .

(I thought that your user name was "AutisticLegOver". Not sure whether to be disappointed or relieved . . . 😄)

Room for all I say.

You'd think so wouldn't you @Deadringer ?

Hels20 · 26/01/2023 09:17

Just watched Nowhere Special. James Norton is brilliant in it and his Belfast accent is impeccable. Had to do something to fill in the gap until Sunday…

ellebelli · 26/01/2023 09:18

I don't really like the nicknames either I also find it all a big cringey.
However let's not start with the bitching and stay off my thread crap.
Like dead ringer says room for all.
If i post I won't be using nicknames and maybe others won't either and that's fine just as it is for those that do.

Well I for one can't take it too seriously, especially after The Great Escape, plus there has been comedic moments in all the series 🤷🏼‍♀️ It isn't a documentary after all.

Rhondaa · 26/01/2023 09:22

If I was on a thread and wasnt keen on comments I just wouldn't contribute. I find it bizarre that on telly threads folk critique the posts.

The nicknames, the in jokes, the our Ryan and our Claire comments amuse some of us. If you don't agree then look elsewhere try Twitter or reddit. Or just respond to serious posts and ignore the 'cringeworthy' ones.

Anyway. I hope Our Ryan stays safe. I noted he was on an escalator with one of t'goons looking upwards as if he may know who he was Shock

JemimaPyjamas · 26/01/2023 09:24

I keep getting links to articles in things like the Yorkshire Post and the Manchester News on my FB page about it, and have been reading the comments.

Some are really quite bizarre. "Alison is clearly linked to TLR and is sabotaging Catherine's jeep so she can't drive after him when he runs away", or comments about how it was unbelievable that TLR managed to go into a 'random newsagents and find a bike outfit that fitted and a bike to steal' that kind of thing.

I've also realised quite how many people seem to miss, at least in my view, obvious details and clues (I also saw a comment about TLR 'forgetting the presents for Ryan' and how that 'surely wouldn't happen' as he needs them to bribe Ryan to run away with him.) It's made me quite grateful for this thread and it's more interesting as opposed to ridiculous viewpoints!

I wish it was Sunday though as I think we are running out of material!

Rhondaa · 26/01/2023 09:27

'or comments about how it was unbelievable that TLR managed to go into a 'random newsagents and find a bike outfit that fitted and a bike to steal' that kind of thing.'

I know I saw simular comments, 'oh how convenient that there wasn't a staff member present and a bike handily available!' Grin.

JemimaPyjamas · 26/01/2023 09:30

Exactly! I know I am being sneery, but surely it's reasonably obvious what's happened? The amount of people who have mentioned 'when he stole the bike' is absurd.

I am intrigued by Alison and what will happen with her character, but I am pretty sure it's nothing to do with helping out TLR from 'when they were both in prison'! I am reasonably sure there will be something linked to her and vehicles though, but is it another red herring...?

RandomersAssociation · 26/01/2023 09:30

OMG, @JemimaPyjamas !Shock So some people are only getting about one tenth of the story?

I keep wondering where Ep 5 will begin. Surely the minute TLR’s escape is communicated to the police Catherine and Ryan would be bundled into a safe house pdq? They know what he tried to do to Ryan. So if TLR is planning to whisk Ryan away he or his associates would have to work fast.

Do we anticipate Ryan getting home safely - or not?
