My concern with musicals week is that it will be like the other themed weeks where there is tonnes of choice of musicals but the same ones keep getting used eg The Sound of Music - we've had Edelweiss, Lonely Goatherd and I'm sure another used.

I agree The King & I would be lovely

Not sure if used before - The Power of Love from Back to the Future

There's Sondheim , all sorts

Let's hope for no twee characters like Gio's disaster from earlier in series

Hobnobswantshernameback · 28/11/2022 07:57

So a day less to rehearse and a day less for Kym to recover (if the Rona has made her poorly)
that's going to be interesting for musicals week

sailingsunshine · 28/11/2022 08:23

I wonder how much the opening of voting lines @ 9pm on a Friday night will make a difference, no point doing twee as all the under 7 year olds should be in bed!

Lee Ryan came on a skateboard dressed like Marty McFly a few years ago.

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 28/11/2022 08:52

It all felt rather short this weekend.

I rather liked that squeezing in between the football meant we got a shorter show now we have fewer contestants rather than ever increasing amount of inane filler.

BeaLola · 28/11/2022 09:06

@ImjustmadaboutSaffron I was trying to block Lee Ryan from my mind - it never happened !

ellebelli · 28/11/2022 09:39

I actually quite liked Lee and think he could have done some decent dances if he had stayed.

ChessieFL · 28/11/2022 10:45

The problem for me with Musicals Week is that they only seem to want to go for the crowd pleasing musicals/songs which means the same ones get used over and over again when there’s lots of slightly less familiar ones that would be great choices.

There’s also the problem that Musicals Week overlaps so much with Movie Week, especially as so many musicals have now been made into films and vice versa. Maybe they should drop one of these weeks now there’s so much crossover.

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/11/2022 11:08

Some of the songs from Six are great, have they been used yet? Agree about using the same crowd pleasers over again.. Surprised the King & I hadn't been done.

FeedMeSantiago · 28/11/2022 11:53

I agree that Movie week and Musicals week are too similar. Would prefer a combined Movie and Musicals week early doors and then a different theme week towards the end, perhaps a rotating one to keep it fresh.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 27/11/2022 22:21

I think if you miss a week, then you need to forfeit that week's dance, and start again with a new dance like everyone else. Otherwise you've had extra time to practice (illness or no illness).

Absolutely agree!

(Especially if it's CC that gets missed out. I bliddy HATE CC!)

ShakeYourFeathers · 28/11/2022 13:08

The bit of the series I miss and would like back is when they all dance a Lindy hop together and then the worst couple get called first and get 1 point and the last couple standing gets 10 points

ShakeYourFeathers · 28/11/2022 13:09

Would rather they did that than a theme week as pp said it's too similar to movie week

SolInvictus · 28/11/2022 13:11

Caught up with the results and Ellie made me cry too.
Genuine and truly lovely.
Molly and Carlos I thought were also very gracious when it was announced that it would be Ellie and not Molly in the DO. Fist-pumping Helen might take note.
Fleur being comforted by both Johannes and Ellie stuck in my cold hard craw.
Oh god. Musicals. (and I love a bellowing man in a frilly shirt standing with his legs apart as much as the next woman) but I hate SCD themed weeks. Let's gird our loins for insane lighting, the large-scale slaughter of theatre music and Shirley not going below 9 while Motsi clambers all over the table salivating.

xsquared · 28/11/2022 16:02

I agree with the pp who suggested getting rid of either movies or musicals night ad there is often a crossover between the two.

Can't do Lion King again as Richie already did that, otherwise it would have been perfect for Hamza.

Neither Hamza, Fleur nor Molly have done Charleston so maybe it will be Charleston heavy this weekend? Thoroughly Modern Millie would be a good one for Mollie or Fleur.

I hope they don't give Will Oh What a Night, as that would give him a hugely unfair advantage, since he was in it himself.

Not really bothered about Kim or Helen. I suppose Helen hasn't done AT yet, so Chicago or Moulin Rouge AT could be used.

Oooh!

I'd forgotten that! It was great!

ChessieFL · 28/11/2022 18:11

The danceathons were fine until the year the judging panel completely fell apart and it was left to Bruno(!) to restore order.

cordelia16 · 28/11/2022 18:17

Someone Else's Story from Chess would be beautiful for a ballroom dance.

Lentilweaver · 28/11/2022 18:18

I seem to recall the danceathons as complete madness!:) I am not sure they should return.

I think this week the dance choice and music lottery will be crucial.

iklboo · 28/11/2022 18:22

@cordelia16 - bugger. So they did. The Lion Sleeps Tonight was in The Lion King. Has someone done that before (I lose track).

Oh yeah someone got the giggles and loss concentrating which set everyone else off or something. And Bruno of all people was left to pick up the pieces

cordelia16 · 28/11/2022 18:17

Someone Else's Story from Chess would be beautiful for a ballroom dance.

I Know Him So Well would be properly camp and dramatic. It would take someone like Judge Rinder or The Lovely Debbie McGee to do it justice, though. It's one of those songs where, when you're singing it in the kitchen, you turn slightly from side to side as you switch between being Elaine and Barbara.

Sunbird24 · 28/11/2022 18:38

Ooh, Ellie actually had a lovely sparkly black frock at some point, how did it all go so wrong!?

ShakeYourFeathers · 28/11/2022 19:00

Where is Rylan on ITT?

I like that tune from Chicago molly and Carlos are dancing to. But surely Carlos could be Billy what's his name or something

ChessieFL · 28/11/2022 19:09

Molly and Carlos will have to try and live up to Georgia and Givanni’s Charleston to the same music. That’s one of my favourites so they have big shoes to fill!
