I’m watching from the airport bar in Singapore while waiting for a flight, otherwise I’m not sure I’d have bothered. The only Djok supporter here is English Hmm Everyone else rooting for Stef!

ChessieFL · 29/01/2023 09:39

That’s much more glamorous than me Ice! I am watching from my sofa in my oodie. Hope you have a good flight!

Raahh · 29/01/2023 09:43

Chessie yes, that's more my style. I've borrowed DD2's Percy pig fluffy socks. The dog keeps looking at me- dh can take him out.

I'm glad to hear they are supporting Stef, Ice !

IceandIndigo · 29/01/2023 09:46

I’d happily trade places Chessie. 14 hours in Economy Class isn’t all that glamorous!

Stef barely getting a look in on Djok’s serve.

Raahh · 29/01/2023 10:17

I really want Stef to catch a break here. I hate tie breaks.

Fizzywinegum · 29/01/2023 11:13

I am now showered and dressed (anything to avoid watching Djok!)

I had a little bit of hope for Stef towards the end of the second set but this is a really big mountain for him to climb

Don’t think I want to hang around to see the inevitable and I definitely don’t want to see him get the trophy

The US had better stick to their guns about not letting him in - I much prefer watching tournaments when he’s not there!

Raahh · 29/01/2023 11:20

I feel a bit slobby- because I haven't got dressed, and I don't usually do this - but I have done the ironing and prepped the dinner.

It will probably be over soon, and I wont be sticking around for the speeches.

I can't get past the feeling they all think this is the real 22nd slam- and Rafa's wins meant nothing. Medvedev wasn't meant to beat Djok at the US Open, and Rafa wasn't meant to win here last year.

But 10 wins still is still a long way off 14 at the same tournament, isn't it? Wink.

StartupRepair · 29/01/2023 11:22

I'm waiting to go to bed here in Melbourne. Won't stay up for the speeches.

Fizzywinegum · 29/01/2023 11:31

The crowd have been very annoying - I think the umpire could be a bit more firm with them (although think it’s a bit of a lost cause)

Raahh · 29/01/2023 11:34

The crowd are always annoying though- it's the same every year. AO and the US Open are both awful- noisy, spectators wandering about , eating, drinking, nobody listening to anyone. We joked at the US Open about them never taking seats on time- it's the same here.

Ugh. This is nearly over isn't it?

Raahh · 29/01/2023 11:42

Grrr.

ChessieFL · 29/01/2023 11:42

Ugh.

IceandIndigo · 29/01/2023 11:43

Boo. I wish he’d just go away.

JaneJeffer · 29/01/2023 12:14

So disappointed

After the excitement of last year, that was just Hmm. Everything about Djok irritates me, the whole circus. His lies, the manipulation of situations. I am not a fan of some players- but can still appreciate their achievements. In his case, I can't.

I didn't stick around to hear how amazing they think he is.

JaneJeffer · 29/01/2023 12:41

That's just it. No matter how well Djokovic plays all his sneaky shit ruins whole tournaments. If you're that good why the need for all the bullshit and fake injuries? (If only I could call Serena and see if she knows)

OP posts:
Raahh · 29/01/2023 12:53

Quite. I think some players think their very reputation owes them a win. And it doesn't matter how they do it. You are either good enough to win the match by playing, or not. And playing mind games by wandering about for 2 weeks with a massive tubi grip on his leg was Djok's way of messing with everyone this time. It didn't work all that well- I don't think there were many that really believed it by the end.

He might need to wait a bit before he tries the same thing again.

Raahh · 29/01/2023 12:59

(It obviously worked well enough that he won the tounrnament Grin).

He also benefited from one of the easiest draws he's ever had as well. He didn't play any one who was going to trouble him in the slightest- until he played Stef. And even then, there was no real competiton.

JaneJeffer · 29/01/2023 13:09

But it was so hard playing guys not in the top100 because they're an unknown quantity Raahh poor Djok

OP posts:
Raahh · 29/01/2023 13:19

Oh yes, that old chestnut Grin

Fingers crossed we don't have to see him for a while.

Not sure what is going to happen with poor Rafa. He's listed as playing Doha- which I had no idea he was (he won't be) and this injury will put paid to a return to Dubai. I suspect he will hold off until Monte Carlo- which isn't until April, so a long way off. He might not want to be off court that long of he recovers quickly.

it's all a bit deflating.

Raahh · 29/01/2023 13:23

GrinDh has just asked me 'did the bad man win'

git.

Murray v Kokk was the highlight of the whole tournament for me.

Looking forward to seeing more from Zhu Lin as well. Have I got her name the right way round? I get confused with Chinese names.

Grin

He can sense the general mood.

Even the dog is staying away.

Fizzywinegum · 29/01/2023 14:39

Yes the bad man did win! I switched it off as soon as he won - couldn’t bear to watch his celebration and his speech

DH has reminded me that Djok is now world number one and has equalled Rafa’s GS record - he’s now in the bad books!
