Boy George is a more terrible person than Matt Hancock and I'm sick of people pretending he isn't

Why does he get a pass for his brutal, clearly sexually motivated crime (he threatened the guy with whips and sex toys) and still have a career?

I'm so irritated I'm having to sound like I'm defending Hancock, a corrupt, inept Tory who cheated on his wife. He personifies everything wrong with Johnston's cabinet, but no he didn't kill thousands, Covid did. The decision to return vulnerable people from hospital to care homes was a terrible one, but we did the exact same thing in Scotland. He isn't a sex offender.

If Boy George had chained up a female sex worker and beat her with an iron bar and threatened to rape her with sex toys he wouldn't have ever had the opportunity to be on TV again.

Did you ever think of just not watching it? They've got controversial people on it because it makes people talk, like this thread.

A load of nice people discussing their favourite biscuits probably wouldn't generate as much buzz, hm?

Craigava · 12/11/2022 10:30

I'm increasingly finding Ant and Dec irritating. They're middle aged men now but are still acting like they're teenagers. I actually preferred it the year Holly was presenting with Dec. I can't be bothered with their silly singing and in jokes.

HeadNorth · 12/11/2022 10:31

MH is elected and paid a wage by us, the taxpayers, to work for his constituents - which he is not doing. I am not paying for Boy George to bunk off his day job.

Dogtooth · 12/11/2022 10:32

I mean, it's a program where you undergo public humiliation. The only reason people go on it is if they're desperate for publicity, either because their career is dying or they've had a bad press they think is unfair.

HeadNorth · 12/11/2022 10:34

Yup and it is an entirely appropriate format for an entertainer like Boy George to raise his profile and make some money. Totally inappropriate for a serving MP.

LemonsAndCherries · 12/11/2022 10:35

I'm not a Matt Hancock fan either but the care home return was a bad decision. It wasn't his alone and not made with knowledge of the circumstances.

In March this year (2022) people were still dying alone in ICU allowed visitors only once a week due to Covid. Bad decisions go way beyond all being Hancock's fault. As for PPE, they were desperate. Yes, they used people they knew and readily available. The fault there was not checking they were actually useable. I think people need to remember how scary and uncertain the situation in March-May 2020 was.

Please share with us 'the good things' he did during his time as Health Secretary so we can balance that with all the egregious harm he did.

One thing I did appreciate MH for was pushing for a reform on women’s health. There was a survey that was doing the rounds trying to get women to complete it. I shared and shared but nobody even seemed to click on the link and it never seemed to get much attention. (I am not a Tory voter but I never found MH offensive.) I get the affair was awful and hypocritical but these politicians were working under so much pressure probably fully aware whatever they did would be judged and scrutinised for decades to come, I imagine it was a bit of ‘it’s the end of the world’ type sex. (Ew sorry)

Presumably he’s on annual leave?

BG is a convicted violent criminal and while he has served a sentence and is entitled to be rehabilitated, he shouldn’t be celebrated as an entertainer on national t.v.

MH is guilty of the unforgivable crime of being 1. a Tory 2. in Government at the time of a horrific pandemic. He didn’t torture anyone. His behaviour towards his wife is not our business and on the scale of abhorrent acts, cheating on your wife is lower down for me than drunk driving.

All the people thinking they’re clever voting for MH to do all the trials are actually helping him to rehabilitate his image.

HelensToenail · 12/11/2022 11:03

Thank you i wasn't aware of that

TBH I feel that the affair is the least of his 'crimes' I would however like to see him in prison for the Care Home scandal - wasn't it something like 20000 people died as a result of that decision?

HeadNorth · 12/11/2022 11:04

Presumably he’s on annual leave?

No - parliament is still sitting.

Lilaaz · 12/11/2022 11:11

This.

What with Sturgeon, Drakeford and everyone else who did exactly the same thing? People had to be discharged, widespread testing was not available.

All the men are pretty vile (did you see MT getting handsy with a young production assistant - creepy bloke) except for the Hollyoaks hunk who seems like a good-natured airhead but dull as dishwater.

He actually solved all of the puzzles with the crossword thing with Jill.

He is just very gullible lol.

CwithaQ · 12/11/2022 11:38

Boy George will have gone through the 12 steps of NA. One of those is making amends to every single person you have ever harmed.

Not even the most zealous religions are as tough on you and your personal responsibility than the 12 step programme.

I like all of them so far!

My winners so far though would be Mike Tindall, Jill or Owen. Sue is lovely. I would say that Boy George will be finding this incredibly mentally stressful.

My least favourite is the lady who takes over the cooking but she seems ok and the other one is the radio presenter guy.

I have to say that Matt seems quite likeable!

well said

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/11/2022 11:42

and i think in the beginning of the pandemic we had all seen what was going on in italy, in the hospitals
emptying the hospitals was the priority
they built nightingale hospitals as well

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/11/2022 11:45

and there was no testing in march 2020
now you cannot return home to your care home from hospital unless you are negative
i think

so that fills up the hospitals

CwithaQ · 12/11/2022 11:46

I read an article and they're all paid different amounts.
Owen is the paid the least. 60-70k
I'll let you guess who is receiving the most?

MichaelFabricantWig · 12/11/2022 11:49

I agree

MH is a cock but he’s no worse than Sturgeon re the care home situation

CwithaQ · 12/11/2022 11:49

I think that the quieter ones with inner strength seem to come across very well and they both happen to have been at the top of their game i.e. Jill and Mike.

They don't seem to push themselves forward but are naturally followed?

Notonthestairs · 12/11/2022 11:51

"Presumably he’s on annual leave?"

MPs are expected to take holidays during the 16 weeks of recess not whilst Parliament is sitting. He can't speak on behalf of his constituents or vote from Australia. That's why he's had the Whip removed.

Babyroobs · 12/11/2022 11:56

BG should not be allowed on the show. I doubt the other campmates are going to interrogate him about his crimes wheras they are portraying MH as an evil person. Mistakes were made but it was an unprecedented situation. I am more annoyed at MH cheating on his wife and now declaring how he in love he was with his gf and couldn't help himself. I feel awful for his ex-wife and kids although ex-wife has clearly had a lucky escape. Lots of people broke lockdown rules.

Did BJ have the whip removed when he was on holiday in the Caribbean recently?

Agree with this.

I'm in absolutely no way a Tory or Matt fan. Not in the slightest and after the past few years would never vote for them again.

But politics works by having scapegoats and courting the media to give the message you want the public to hear.

I cannot blame MH for wanting to do his courting of the media and public to get what he feels hasn't been seen or known about him out there.

itsgettingweird · 12/11/2022 12:08

Precise example of people only hearing what they choose.

People were more shocked he flew back to consider re trying for PM more than they were he was away when he should be working!
