Looks like The Sun are targetting Fleur for this year's witch hunt. How is this rag still going? I don't know anyone who buys a newspaper regularly, and certainly not The Sun.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 04/11/2022 08:43

Fleur may well turn out to be the dark horse who makes it all the way to the final. She’s not a firm favourite with a solid fan base who’s supported by the same people week after week no matter how she dances; she only gets the votes when she pulls it out of the bag, which she sometimes does. Be interesting to see what she does this week. I have high hopes!

It would be good to know what the error was that they didn't show us so that people could know one way or another whether it should have counted as an error or was a prop thing because with it all being a bit wishy-washy the public are going to decide that she got to stay unfairly and that won't bode well for her future.

Obviously, overall she is by far the better dancer but it is down to the way you dance in the dance off, or that's what it's supposed to be anyway otherwise why bother with it at all? Stupid question, I know that the reason they have it is that if they just binned the person who was bottom of the list sometimes it would be one of the better dancers. I think that happened in the past, although my memory isn't that great on past Strictly stuff so I could be wrong.

Even if you put aside who was the better dancer in general (obviously Fleur), in the DO itself, although they both made mistakes, I think she was better.

Pashazade · 04/11/2022 14:02

As Craig pointed out on ITT Alesha Dixon was in the bottom two, three times and she won.....

On the other hand, Craig was just making that up. Alesha was in the bottom two once, the week that Matt di Angelo went for his little sit down.

xsquared · 04/11/2022 15:34

Ore was in the bottom two twice with one being in quarter finals and he won.

I don't know how to call it. Fleur may still have a chance of making it to the final. There's only Mollie who is a similar standard to her if they end up in a dance off.

EvilRingahBitch · 04/11/2022 16:01

I can't see Fleur winning, which is a shame because I find her really exciting to watch. Tyler and Mollie don't feel like winners to me either. Dunno about Hamza. Maybe? He feels too much like the contestants I always love who lose the public vote too early.

But you know I wouldn't write off Tony. Every year we have the John Sergeant Memorial Panic (TM Monkseal) where good dancers (though not likely winners) go out due to a popular duffer getting all the votes. And every year people panic that they'll win. And every year I say to myself, "naaah, it's fine, the GBP will get bored and drop them like a stone after Blackpool". And every year they do. Every year the rumoured army of speed-diallers for pop stars, Eastenders, Youtubers or Daniel O'Donnell fail to materialise (unless pop star/eastender is a charming person and excellent dancer with a winning partnership with their pro who wins over the SCD audience).

But maybe, just maybe, the online voting system is so easy nowadays, that the Arsenal fan groups really have got their act together enough to send a mass WhatsApp round at 8:47pm saying "voting's open now lads, send your three votes off for Tony". The judges might possibly have got the nod from on high that he's shipping votes in in unprecedented quantities so they need to go easy on him and frame him as a credible winner. (I think that's happened before).

Maybe I'm just paranoid. He might drop Katya on her head and fall flat on his arse tomorrow after all.

ArcaneWireless · 04/11/2022 16:29

Dont worry. If he does that they’ll just re-record it and not tell anyone till Monday….

Probably.

nomdegrrr1 · 04/11/2022 16:46

I feel a bit odd because Tony and Hamza are the only ones I've warmed to this year. For disclosure - I know nothing about dancing, I just like watching it.

As a non-dancer, if Tony continues to improve the way he has (today I watched his first dance and most recent back to back and bloody hell!) then it's kind of inspiring that he could make the final. I don't think he should win, but it's encouraging to people who want to take this up but are worried that they'll never get it. I'm not sure that he should win, but let the mad evil genius Katya do her work and encourage everyone.

nomdegrrr1 · 04/11/2022 16:46

I also found myself with an unexpected soft spot for Matt Goss, who seemed a sweetie trying to work out how to manage a human suit.

EvilRingahBitch · 04/11/2022 17:01

If Tony keeps on improving at the rate he has been, and showing his charming personality and work ethic then actually I'd be happy to see him win on the back of viewer votes, because I love Katya.

But If he's still basically a duffer then I wouldn't like to see him win on the votes of Arsenal fans who've never watched the show.

Anyway, that's all very hypothetical: we're not even at Blackpool yet. Loads of duffers of the past have seemed completely unstoppable at Halloween only for the GBP to tire of them before November is out.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/11/2022 17:45

I have the same problem with Fleur and Molly — if they do a good dance I like them, if they don't I forget about them.

If you told me that Molly did an underwhelming jive to Waterloo, and Fleur dressed up in a school blazer for couple's choice I wouldn't immediately realise you were wrong!

Perhaps both having young new partners doesn't help?

Who do you that has been done for before?

I'd be happy to see him win if he carries on improving.

it's an interesting question really. Who deserves to win more - the person who is a great tap dancer/stage school trained/other dance background and who is brilliant from day one or the person who doesn't get to that level but has never danced before and put loads of work into getting to a decent level?

EvilRingahBitch · 04/11/2022 18:52

mrstea301 · 04/11/2022 17:52

Who do you that has been done for before?

As I recall, the three cheeky crappy journey contestants, Darren, Chris and Bill, were all slightly over praised by the judges in what looked like a bit of an attempt to fluff the fact that the winner was manifestly the second-best dancer. They were all pretty good dancers, and perfectly good winners, but I just got a slight sense that they were clearly shipping votes by the tonne and so the judges' comments were influenced by the desire to be on the right side of history - it would leave a nasty taste in the mouth if they'd been too brutal in the closing stages of the competition.

But that's just a personal vibe.

EsmaCannonball · 04/11/2022 18:54

I'd love to see Tony get to the final. The problem is, every week it becomes mathematically more difficult for those at or near the bottom of the leaderboard to escape the dance-off. It's another reason I dislike the dance-off: the judges (perhaps producers) get twice as much power than the viewers at deciding the results, and it makes it far less likely that a non-dancer can reach the final stages.

Alcemeg · 04/11/2022 19:02

I'd just like to see Katya win one day. Her "mad evil genius" (well said @nomdegrrr1!) deserves reward.

Tony seems like a nice bloke and ticks all the boxes: struggle with demons, naive to dancing, making an effort.

Katy won in 2017 with Joe McFadden.

OMG! I forgot that.

Well, time for another go innit

Samcro · 04/11/2022 20:49

Joe was very forgettable
I do hope tony doesn’t go soon, he is entertaining, molly and fleur and will are rather forgettable.
might change once there are less people,

ArcaneWireless · 04/11/2022 20:57

I didn’t care for Joe.

I wanted Gemma to win that year.

He thought he was the dog’s orbs.

He wasn’t.

mrstea301 · 04/11/2022 21:01

Ah @EvilRingahBitch - I wasn't watching when the first two were on, but I was for Bill. I think sometimes it gets to a point and the judges stop being so stringent for scoring, so the ten paddles are out all over the place!

Although I feel like they're coming out earlier and earlier every year!

the80sweregreat · 05/11/2022 08:31

Will Mellor is so desperate to win.
He was on the one show yesterday , you can tell he has a huge ego and wants his hands on that glitter ball! Lol

Figgygal · 05/11/2022 08:39

I feel like it's Hamza's to lose at this point
Tyler should be front runner but he just isn't
