Didn’t she also slip in the dance that was shown in the dance off? I think it was when she was doing that leaning back balancing trick they stole from Jake and Janette. That’s even more unfair if there were two errors and they still kept her in (although I agree she was the better dancer overall and I’m not bothered that James went).

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/11/2022 06:59

Fleur’s the better dancer for sure, but I thought she messed up the back bend move in the version of the DO we did see? Judges didn’t comment so maybe I imagined it...

@ChessieFL

Oops, crossed post 😃

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/11/2022 07:00

... and obviously I didn’t imagine it.

Fleur very nearly hit her head on the floor but put her hand out in time.

Judges didn't comment t on it but I do think that was Vito's mistake, not Fleur's.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/11/2022 07:25

@xsquared

Yes, I said exactly that at the time, thinking about it now. You could see the shock and alarm register on Fleur’s face.

Ooh, our first proper controversy of the series! Fleur fell over near the beginning of the dance-off and was allowed to re-record the routine. Now, I prefer Fleur to James as a contestant, and she's clearly the better dancer, but that doesn't seem quite fair to me. If someone makes a catastrophic mistake in the dance-off, they shouldn't get a retake. The judges could still have justified putting her through or they could have made the dance-off serve its purpose and create a bit of excitement (for once) by saving the underdog for managing to stay upright. I actually think it could have been good for the programme if it had shown that a seemingly no-brainer dance-off wasn't such a foregone conclusion after all. (Even though I would have been annoyed had Fleur gone over James.) It smacks of the producers engineering the results a bit too much and cheating the viewers of the 'as live' aspect of the Results Show.

I agree with all you have said.

I think the right one went, but as you say, i the rule is "Who performs better in the DO", then that rule should stand.

Emotionalsupportviper · 03/11/2022 07:32

I think a lot of people are going to interpret that as Fleur and Vito having an unfair advantage in the DO, so they may not be inclined to vote for them. :(

God point

"Come for the Glitter Ball, stay for the brain damage"

That would have scared the bejabers out of me. I would want to play safe after that.

toomuchlaundry · 03/11/2022 07:39

Didn’t James forget his steps at some point in the DO? There was one point where he looked as if he was just standing there

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/11/2022 07:44

@toomuchlaundry

I thought I saw that too, very briefly, but definitely some hesitation in the middle of it.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/11/2022 07:45

@Emotionalsupportviper

Fleur should be safe, for this week at least 😅

EvilRingahBitch · 03/11/2022 07:50

It shows the mess that the open secret about the results show pre-record gets them into. It would be much better telly if they showed:

Fleur and Vito go out to dance, five seconds in they crash down.
Dramatic call for medics. Medics crowd around them. Screen goes black.
Claudia steps out (they don't trust Tess with spontaneous evolving events) and says "Fleur and Vito have been checked by the medics. As they hadn't begun to dance at the time that they fell, they've been asked whether they feel able to start again and although they're very shaken they would like to try. So here they are: Fleur and Vito!"
Fleurito dance a slightly flaky but who could blame them salsa. The judges save them, saying "it wasn't quite as good as the live show but that's hardly surprising under the circumstances, and still better than James".

Monday James goes on ITT and is asked "how did you feel when Fleurito fell?" He gives the only possible answer "I was really worried for them, I definitely wouldn't have wanted to go through in those circumstances, Fleur is much the better dancer and it was the right decision, I've had a wonderful time Rylan and Amy is a friend for life"

Tuesday Fleur goes on and goes through it all in immense detail, laying the injury porn on with a trowel.

Excellent telly all round.

Emotionalsupportviper · 03/11/2022 08:01

I would watch that AVIDLY, @EvilRingahBitch !

I would have been on the edge of my seat.

lollipoprainbow · 03/11/2022 08:04

At the beginning of Fleur's routine she grabs Vito and runs across the dance-floor, pushing him along, finally pushing him onto a chair. She must have toppled over as she was running and pushed Vito too hard onto the chair, so he fell as well

She needs to bloody calm down !!

SoupDragon · 03/11/2022 08:12

I've just rewatched Fleur's DO and the most likely thing to have gone wrong is that the chair broke or slipped when she pushed Vito into it. There really isn't much scope for anything else to have happened before they started dancing. That wouldn't have been their fault.

There was a definitely near miss in that back bend move but, fair play to her, there is no hesitation at all and she carried on seamlessly.

Clawdy · 03/11/2022 08:16

Wonder why it's taken so long for the story to emerge.

Trees6 · 03/11/2022 08:23

I’m glad that Fleur was uninjured which is the main thing … but this is yet another reason to get rid of the “Sunday night” lie nonsense.

the80sweregreat · 03/11/2022 08:38

It's a non story isn't it really isn't it about Fleur?
We all know it's not filmed on a Sunday evening
We know that things are not always what they seem! She was better than James.

I wouldn't say it's a non-story exactly, and the point is not whether or not we know it's not filmed on a Sunday evening. I think the point of contention is whether the mishap genuinely warranted them being allowed to start again (like Mark and Karen's mic issues, which meant they couldn't possibly have done the dance), or whether it counted as a mistake by Fleur/Vito, in which case they should have continued and it should have been taken into account in the judging.

If the chair broke or slipped, that was a prop issue (and I wouldn't like to be the person who was supposed to have secured the chair!) and clearly beyond their control, and they were right to redo the routine.
If Fleur fell on her way to the chair, or Vito missed it or fell out of it, for me that would count as a dancing mistake.

It's a pity that (in the Mail's account anyway) the BBC person muddies the waters by talking about Fleur pulling Vito along in the prop chair when the routine didn't feature any such thing. It makes you wonder what else they're being inaccurate about.

I do wonder what would have happened had the incident happened in the main live show.

Any road up, the better dancer stayed.

EvilRingahBitch · 03/11/2022 09:11

Also really surprised that the story didn't come out earlier, given that several hundred members of the public saw it happen.

The Sun obviously held it back, and that means they couldn't deal with it on Monday / Tuesday's ITT.

Quartz2208 · 03/11/2022 09:31

I think the problem is that they didn't show it. Because they couldn't show it as they still seem to want to pretend it is on a Saturday night and therefore would have to both show the incident and then give time to recover rather than just editing together.

From James interview on Monday he was perfectly happy to be the one who left and felt it was his turn to go.

ArcaneWireless · 03/11/2022 10:23

I don’t think I’d mind re-filming if it wasn’t a dancer issue. Chair breaking, major costume malfunction, light blowing etc.

I don’t think it fair to re-film if it is a dancer issue.

They would have still found a way to bounce James I reckon but it is supposed to be judged on the dance off and if you have a howler then…

It honks a bit for me.

EsmaCannonball · 03/11/2022 10:24

I prefer Fleur to James precisely because she's more likely to fall over on live TV or to go at her celeb so hard that she does him an injury. We missed all the drama.

Trust the other couple in this to be James and Amy so we don't even get a dull series of ITT livened up by a bit of Jamelia and Tristan-ing.

Lentilweaver · 03/11/2022 10:30

Fleur's definitely going home in the next 2 weeks after this. A pity as I think she could be very good with an experienced choreographer.
