@stockpilingallthecheese , I think Gio's tour clashes with the Live tour next year anyway but I'm surprised Kai isn't there (and Neil is). I'm hoping Kai and Nadia will be starring in something else instead so I'm holding out for that. (Yes I'm surprised Katya is missing too).

xsquared · 02/11/2022 08:35

Doesn't Nadiya do Here come the boys tour? So Kai may have a spot in that.

I think AT will be interesting for Kym as I do think it needs to be done by someone with confidence to make it look really good. Fleur's was amazing but Mollie's in comparison was just too timid.

Johannes did a lovely rumba with both Catherine Tildsley and John, so I'm hoping he will do the same with Ellie. Please give her a gorgeous dress, as it's long overdue!

SolInvictus · 02/11/2022 08:44

Missing word from my pp. I think Kym will do a GOOD AT.

Molly & Carlos Foxtrot to You Make Me Happy by My Sun and Stars
My toes are curling about this already. It's SO twee. Are the producers actively trying to make the voting public hate them?!?

I'm a lurker on these threads because I'm in a different timezone and we watch Strictly v late in the day, but you are all fabulous and hilarious.

I have been totally ended by @EsmaCannonball's comment "Do they think women are born with the innate ability to feel comfortable wearing a chiffon catsuit and frotting an Italian to the strains of Dusty Springfield on live television?" 😂

Too lazy to name change, but surely someone wants to adopt FrottingAnItalian as a username?

Made me snort for ages too.
I mean, I don't have it as an innate ability, but it is basically my life goal Grin

DameHelena · 02/11/2022 08:55

Also meant to say, looking forward to Fleur's dance to I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues. She does ballroom beautifully, much better than her mad Latin, and I'm old enough and ugly enough to say I love Elton John and I particularly love this one.

ArcaneWireless · 02/11/2022 09:48

Love that whole album damehelena

Very happy memories of it and I hope it is a dance that will make me weep like a fool.

It will certainly be interesting to see whether she nails or fails it.

The ATs I've enjoyed in the past have all been performed by contestants who were consistently good before their AT - Debbie McGee, AJ Odudu, Rachel Stevens, Rhys Stephenson, Rose and of course Fleur.

There have been some disappointing ATs and to me, maybe it was done too early before the contestants had a chance to improve or that the contestant was generally not very good: - Adam Peaty, Kate Silverton and Lauren Steadman's AT come to mind.

Kym is competent, but it's been mentioned before that her dances seem to lack energy and oomph, but I hope I'm wrong when she does the AT.

I've always loved Elton John!
My siblings are older than me and they bought his albums on vinyl, so I was brought up on his music throughout all the decades
Loved the rocket man film too

SolInvictus · 02/11/2022 11:36

Joining the Elton love, particularly from that period. Reminds me of 6th form and snogging at discos in church halls.

RobertsRadio · 02/11/2022 13:27

Also admitting to some Elton love and a couple of vinyl LPs purchased in the 70s (must see if my old turntable still works).

I have to admit I had to look up frotting. I don't get out much and have clearly led a very chaste life😉.

the80sweregreat · 02/11/2022 14:16

Dont shoot me.. is a good album
As is two low for zero
Then he wrote with other people and wasnt as good as he was with Bernie !

picklemewalnuts · 02/11/2022 15:11

Does fritting a Spaniard count? Twas perhaps more the other way round when I stop and think about it.

ohyouknowwhatshername · 02/11/2022 15:44

Just googled frotting - thought it was going to be a dance move! Oh dear. I learn a lot from Mumsnet.

SolInvictus · 02/11/2022 17:35

I was going to say I think I've frotted several Italians, two Spaniards and a Thai but having googled (and been told off that I might see explicit thingies if I go further,) I think I lack a fundamental body part and sadly, (perhaps) shall remain unfrotted.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 02/11/2022 19:06

I was taught frottage in art, along with cross hatching and stippling.

I suspect they might call it something else now!

Emotionalsupportviper · 02/11/2022 19:58

Is it not a low-fat dairy product?

Frottage cheese?

I'm sure someone mentioned it at Weight Watchers.

Howling absolutely howling 🤣🤣🤣🤣 will never look at it on M and S shelves again without calling it Frottage Cheese @Emotionalsupportviper

Ooh, our first proper controversy of the series! Fleur fell over near the beginning of the dance-off and was allowed to re-record the routine. Now, I prefer Fleur to James as a contestant, and she's clearly the better dancer, but that doesn't seem quite fair to me. If someone makes a catastrophic mistake in the dance-off, they shouldn't get a retake. The judges could still have justified putting her through or they could have made the dance-off serve its purpose and create a bit of excitement (for once) by saving the underdog for managing to stay upright. I actually think it could have been good for the programme if it had shown that a seemingly no-brainer dance-off wasn't such a foregone conclusion after all. (Even though I would have been annoyed had Fleur gone over James.) It smacks of the producers engineering the results a bit too much and cheating the viewers of the 'as live' aspect of the Results Show.

EsmaCannonball · 02/11/2022 23:34

At the beginning of Fleur's routine she grabs Vito and runs across the dance-floor, pushing him along, finally pushing him onto a chair. She must have toppled over as she was running and pushed Vito too hard onto the chair, so he fell as well. It's not quite the same as the Ramps and Karen situation, where the mics getting tangled was unquestionably not their error and where it happened live so the viewers weren't shown an edited version of events. I'm not a fan of the dance-off (gives the judges more power than the audience, mostly completely predictable, almost always boring) but, if it's going to happen, it needs integrity and a bit of jeopardy. It needs to deliver the occasional upset.

xsquared · 02/11/2022 23:56

BBC have responded to confirm something did happen but it was a prop failure before they started dancing.

If this is true, then surely doesn't this just give us another reason why they should do away with props and not faff about at the start!

I think a lot of people are going to interpret that as Fleur and Vito having an unfair advantage in the DO, so they may not be inclined to vote for them. :(

EsmaCannonball · 03/11/2022 00:34

It's a bit confusing because the source (they act like it's Kim Philby, not some Joe Public from the audience) says that at the beginning of the routine Fleur pulled Vito along in a prop chair that slipped, but I've watched the start again (from Saturday's show, anyway) and there isn't a bit where she pulls him along in a chair. She pushes him across the dance-floor into a chair. If the chair broke that wouldn't be her fault (although perhaps a more interesting Results Show than what we actually got). If she gunned across the floor too hard and fell, taking Vito and the chair with her, that would be another matter.
